Clyde's of Chevy Chase
Five of us went because of a friend's birthday and he wanted a place that has oysters. Clyde's has 1/2 price oysters and clams on the half shell daily from 3 pm to 6 pm, so we went at 5 pm, ordered a dozen of each (all excellent) and a variety of dinners (ditto). Had a great time!
Clyde's is my go to place and I have never had a poor meal or bad experience at this restaurant. The happy hour prices are fantastic! Quantity and quality of the food is top-notch. Wait staff, hostess/host are cordial and polite. Yes, the restaurant is kid friendly and the basement bar is luxurious and a perfect place to dine and watch that game. Two hours complimentary free parking...what more do you want!
Excellent, as always.
Poorly mixed bloody Mary at brunch. Exchanged for a watery Perfect Manhattan. Ordered a Kir Royale that was good but cold have been colder.
Weren't ready the specials or at least the market priced fish or soup of the day. Had to ask when the food was coming out because it had been so long then came out with the wrong side with an entree. Had to tell the busser bc our waitress was no where to be found after our food came out. Icing on the cake, ordered 2 cappuccinos after dinner after being told before the meal that there are no fancy coffees 😮 and one came out cold the other lukewarm. This when the place was half empty. Our waitress was actually very nice just a no attention to detail. At least the manager was kind enough to do some service recovery and invite us back but...
This last visit service was very slow. The salads and food usually tastes better and freshness was not typical of most visits. It has the variety and options that work for my family but if we were looking for a great fresh quick meal this last visit was not a great overall experience.
Great service, always something to please everyone.
The food, service and atmosphere at Clydes is always a pleasure. I really appreciate that I can have a nice meal in a nice restaurant and not feel like I have to take out a loan to enjoy it.
I was pleasantly surprised at my first visit to the Clyde's in Chevy Chase, not being sure what to expect. The food was delicious, the menu varied, and the service prompt and courteous. The atmosphere is perfect for conversation, and the booths are comfortable. I would definitely return and highly recommend it.
The crispy chicken rice bowl was delicious! The waiter was attentive. It was a Friday evening, and the restaurant was crowded, but the quality of service did not suffer.
Very nice place. Staff is super friendly. Food is excellent and reasonable. Kudos!
Its always pleasure to go to Clyde's. The food is consistently good the service is friendly and you are never rushed .
We had a group of 8 and were delighted with food, service, and the not too high noise level.
Food was not served the way we asked. There’s a stale smell in the restaurant. Convenient location for lunch.
Had a great selection of appetizers -- brussel sprouts, chicken wings, and calamari. I didn't like my first drink but was readily replaced by the server with an amazing mojito.
I was upset because I asked twice whether the person at the desk stamped my parking ticket, and he said yes both times. However, he did not, and that cost me $9.00 unnecessarily.
I've been a regular diner at Clyde's Chevy Chase since it opened. Always top notch service and food!
Always reliable for food and service. We enjoyed a delicious dinner.
Very disappointing. Have loved Clydes for years. This time it was all around meh.
Perfectly acceptable food and atmosphere! Good place for work lunch as table spread out and you can actually hear people talk!
The food was the consistent quality that I expect from Clyde’s but the service was the worst experience that I have had there (despite the fact that it was relatively empty). My server never checked on us to see if we had what we wanted or how the food was and, when I needed something, I had to find another server to help. The manager also never checked on us because he was busily flirting with his young female staff.
When I paid the check, I asked if the server could please validate our parking but she said I had to go to the receptionist’s area to have that done. It was a minor issue and normally I wouldn’t mind at all but, given the general issues around the service, I think she could’ve easily done it herself but didn’t want to bother. When I went up there the manager was again flirting with the two women at the front and, although he validated it, he never asked us how we were doing or thanked us for coming or checked to see if we were satisfied. Instead he just continued with his banter without ever addressing us directly or making eye contact. So, while all the food was quite good, the overall experience left a bad taste in my mouth.
I made a reservation. My client arrived first. The table - of ALL the free tables the host chose was immediately next to a messy noisy child. When The second guest and I arrived, we could ne hold substantive conversation with the running the climbing and the messiness going on 12” from my left side. It took all of my self control from hailing the host and making them resent us - but that would have been further disruptive. To say that I am disappointed and annoyed is an understatement. Clydes can/should do better.
Our server may have been new as she had difficulty with our drink order, which was a bottle of Prosecco and a Negroni. Our dinner over, she brought one dessert menu for 4 people, cleared most of dinner service, left empty glasses, bottle, bread plates and brought dessert to a table that had not been cleared. All in all, service was abominable. Not what we had in mind for a birthday celebration.
Always reliable, always very good. Nothing exceptional. Just what you want from a neighborhood institution.
Had Saturday evening at 7:30 reservations and we were seated promptly. Service was very good and the food was excellent for all three of us! The Chevy Chase Clydes dining room is also so pleasant - rarely loud. We will be returning for sure- thank you.
Unfortunately, the food was not what it used to be. Clyde's Chevy Chase needs to improve its kitchen. Salads are blah, oysters were average, pancakes were fair (syrup was supplied in very small dosis). Service was sparse.
Wonderful place to dine. Love the atmosphere and decorations.
We have come to Clydes in Chevy Chase for 23 years! Our first date was at Clydes. The food, service and ambiance are great, and has been great for 23 years!! For everyday dining and special occasions this is one restaurant you can count on for a nice evening out!
Nice after work gathering place for family to get together and share a meal outside of the home.
An excellent spot for a casual friends’ gathering.
I came to Clyde's as 1 of a party of four. We tried 3 different dishes - 2 chicken bowls, 1 liver and one catfish. All were perfect! Our waitress was unobtrusive but always there when we needed her. The ambient nose level was just right. We had a great experience and will be back there again soon!
The food was good (as usual) but we must have gotten a new waitress. Fairly slow with drinks, didn’t go over specials. Probably just needs some time on the job. Would not keep me from returning.
The restaurant was packed for Sunday brunch. A party of about 10 people were next to us. They had finished their meal but their 6 small children were running around the restaurant shouting and screaming as if they were in an outside playground. The adults in this party allowed their children to behave in this abominable way. Clyde’s staff completely ignored the situation. Meanwhile our waitress was a little ‘ditsy’. She was surprised when we said we wanted to place our order! After our main course, she offered to bring us a dessert menu - then disappeared for 25 minutes and never came back! So we had to ask her out and just asked her to bring the bill. Having said all of this, we have dined in this Clyde’s restaurant at Chevy Chase on numerous occasions. This was the first time we were disappointed with such a noisy situation and mediocre service. Normally, we would highly recommend this restaurant for both brunch and dinner.
Surprisingly good! Food, wine tasty. Excellent service. They accommodated our party of 6 without a hitch.
A bit challenging tonight. Had to ask for empty plates to be cleared before dessert arrived and we love babies...but not when they won't stop crying and the parents are slow to act. Check please!
My server wasn’t that polite and we waited a long time for our food that wasn’t hot, but I enjoyed the scenery with my date.
Food was mediocre and ran out of many entrees. My crabcake entree was fine but wife did not enjoy the flounder. Also not enough bread served with the mussels. Decor is very busy and carpet is dated, all though train is cool. Downstairs lounge seemed nice and this place seems like it would be better for a happy hour instead of a nice dinner,
We were not able to eat at Clyde’s. By around 8:30 they ran out of all the top options for my date and I. They were out of the Valentine’s Day Surf and Turf Special, the only steak option, crab cakes, beef tenderloin, swordfish, and catfish. They may have been out of other options but those were the ones we inquired about. Horrible preparation for one of the biggest dining evenings of the year.
