Clyde's of Chevy Chase

IMy husband ordered a lamb gyro in a warm pita. He has had lamb gyros in middle eastern restaurants inDC, MD and overseas. His lamb gyro from Clyde's was awful. As he tried to eat it he had a mess in front of him but got thru half and pulled out two large string gobs of fat. Learn to make an authentic lamb gyro to drop it from your menu. He didn't get what he paid for when comparing it to the food quality or cost at, for example, Shemali's or other authentic restaurant. The other three meals we had were ok. There was toomuchof a wait forefoot...about 1/2 hour.
we used to love Clyde's of Chevy Chase, our neighborhood favorite once. But the service is to put it gently -- spotty. Twice in the last 2 months the waiter or waitress (we had both) acted like they didn't care what we ordered: the result being they got our orders wrong, shrugged shoulders when told the order went awry -- and didn't bring condiments even though asked nicely 3 times.
they could and should do better
We had the lobster special and it was cooked to perfection. Local ingredient salad was quite nice. Crab soup a bit spicy. Bread not as good as I remember from past but still nice consistency. Wine pairing quite good. Service was top notch.
CLyde's used to be a great American restaurant with good value in settings that were more elaborate than their menu prices.....and I think if you stick with hamburgers and sandwiches and perhaps the lobsters or others specials of the month ,,it still might be...however many of the other dishes, including old time staples, are just not prepared as they once were....as an example...trout parmesan , which I ordered the other night, was a piece of curled up fish that was over battered and tasted as if it had been cooked in a deep fat fryer..along with a bunch of other fried foods..same with the calamari that one person at the table ordered..soaked with some sort of grease....frankly I had issues all evening after the meal....I have eaten at Clyde's Chevy Chase ..many many times....it is convenient...last couple of years I think it has gone downhill in food quality....as do some of my friends who live nearby....I had to go to dinner last Thursday with some people who were visiting but former residents......they wanted to try Cludes as it was convenient and it was raining.... and based on trying it again...I will only return if it is again a matter of convenience...This has not been my experience at Tower Oaks or the CLydes near Leesburg......
Order didn’t arrive correctly and part of order never arrived. Waiter staff was very limited so took along time to see waiter and explain needed corrections or forgotten orders. Food was delicious but the restaurant needs to hire more waiters and hostesses. Took a while to get seated even though we had a reservation.
Still a good place to be able to carry on a conversation. Service and ambience were very good. The crab cake didn’t suit my taste, but the rest of the platter was good. The lower level had a strong odor of being musty.
Lobster was good, but a little pricey for the amount provided.
It was a wonderful time getting together with family, we love Clydes and servers were very attentive, always a nice time!
Enjoyed the decor and the atmosphere
Hostess was rude and the waitress forgot us.
I ordered lobster and it was fresh. My husband had fish tacos and it was ok. The wines are priced right.
This place needs TLC, it smells old and musky.
Clyde’s has always been a reliable spot for very good food and terrific service. During my latest visit, my waiter took 10 minutes to stop at the table & then seemed overwhelmed when I asked where the food was 20 minutes after I placed my food order. After asking the manager to intervene, he made certain I was served within minutes. I look forward to dining again at Clyde’s where the service/kitchen returns to a superior dining experience.
I have had several meals in the past month at Tower Oaks and Chevy Chase and found the food to be tasteless and overpriced. How can you screw up a turkey sandwich? Well both my companion and I found it to be inedible. The fish tacos, where’s the fish? And fried? Ugh. Sorry to say I won’t be back on my suggestion.
Reservation was made less than 15 minutes prior to our arrival and they received us efficiently and effectively along outstanding friendly service
Food was done well as all Clyde's locations do. Decor was very cool, loved the train track. However, I docked points for service. The server seemed rushed to take our order, didn't spend much time going over the menu..noted in the reservation it was a birthday..only got a little profiterole with no candle and no happy birthday wishes.
Clyde's is a classic you have to try if you live in the DMV. I prefer the Tower Oaks Lodge location as the ambiance is cozier and more welcoming but I like to come to this location occasionally. It's great for groups, as they have plenty of space for large parties (plus they have big booths!). They have a pretty "versatile" menu, but beware that there are allergens in most of their dishes, which limits the options for some us. The server was very friendly, but she did not know the menu very well. She suggested a few items that I knew I could not eat, so that made me skeptical that she would double check my order. In the end I chose a safe option and it was fine. Make sure you check out some of their cocktails, they have some pretty delicious options! It's also very easy to park and you have the metro steps away so it's very accessible.
Great place to have a lunch meeting....menu diverse to meet all tastes and the ambiance though lively was still quiet so that we could all hear each other around the table. Location is the best a block from Metro and a major bus depot...no reason to drive
I have eaten at this Clyde’s for twenty years. The experience is usually very good as is the food. This time I found the service lacking from reception at the door through attentiveness at the table. My food was cold. I could not even find the waiter to mention it. I will try again and hope this was an anomaly and that the restaurant has not deteriorated.
Food is generally good but service can be spotty. The crab cakes were not especially good at this outing and also had a couple of shells. Cole slaw is always good as is their trout.
Excellent lobster special - we will return again, as great value and delicious, fresh tasting. Always dependable and pleasant setting for families or groups.
Because of the time of the year (end of August), the restaurant was not packed to the brim as it sometimes is so that did lower the noise level (not that it is ever super noisy). I ordered the lobster special and it was superb. My request for a substitute for the french fries it came with was immediately accepted. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. All in all a positive experience.
I've been to this location several times and to the Mark Center locations MANY times. Mark Center is consistently better on all fronts! As for Chevy Chase, my last two visits have been mediocre at best. Inconsistent food prep, sloppy and inattentive service, slap-dash service by the food runners. Small touches like table lights not working and the train not running.
At least the oysters were up to Clyde's reputation!
Always wonderful! Togo waited on us. Great personality and kind.
Food was very good. I ordered the boiled lobster which was very tender. Service was very good - a big improvement since my last visit several months ago. The server was very attentive.
Always appreciate the attention to my low sodium/salt free medical diet and the kitchen's willingness to adapt some of their dishes accordingly. Wait staff are pleasant. Staff are welcoming as they seat you where you prefer when available. The down-side at the moment is the nearby construction, making parking a bit confusing. They do validate parking and that is a definite enticement to come to this restaurant.
Excellent food and service. We are regulars. The lobster specials were great.
Kept waiting for 20 minutes despite having a reservation, not because of a lack of tables, simply because of insufficient servers being available.
My first drink was fine. My second had no alcohol in it whatsoever.
Also, parking validation did not work and I was left paying for the complete parking bill after a bit inexpensive dinner.
Clyde's of Chevy Chase can always be relied on for a wide choice of food, well prepared, and excellent service. Last night, its filet mignon special was delicious. Also of note is its willingness to accommodate people who have food allergies, like my dining companion who cannot tolerate salt.
Excellent Customer Service I would recommend Clyde’s to everyone.
A very nice restaurant. Good food, capable wait staff, pleasant environment. A neighborhood plus: everything from burgers to lobster well presented and nicely cooked.
The meal selection: fish tacos was forgettable. Fried pieces of fish but overwhelmed by the amount of coleslaw on the taco. Would not order again. Previous visits chose menu options which were very enjoyable.
My daughter and I had two of the best burgers in town and she had a brownie sundae ( her favorite) the night before leaving for college. Our waiter was kind and attentive and we had a great time. Thank you.
Service was great, food was yummy, chooses on menu was great.
Cheerful server, delicious food, adjustments were made for items we wanted changed. Some items, like coffee, could have arrived faster.
Delicious spicy San Marzano tomato sauce on a tasty seafood pasta...made even more so by addition of large pinch of pepper flakes, which I requested! Don't recall noise level because it was neither too noisy nor too quiet!
Excellent as always. Service was excellent but unobtrusive. Let us get on with our meeting without having to ask to be left to in peace.
For the second time in a row (we selected Clyde's again for our monthly gathering), the service was poor - no problem with the server personally, but the wait time for taking drink, and then food orders was way too long.
It’s been a few years since our last visit so we weren’t sure what to expect. We were seated within 5 minutes of our arrival. Our waitress was very attentive. Everybody enjoyed their food. My ceasar salad with shrimp was delicious. We will be back.
A stand-by for last minute dining. Good food, good value.
Always good food and service at Clyde's (any location). I always recommend it to out-of-town visitors and regard it as my local dining standard.
Clyde's is consistently very good, moderately priced, excellent service, quiet. Food is very satisfactory.
