Clyde's of Chevy Chase
We have been dining at Clyde’s for many years, and always enjoyed it... that is until lately. We have noticed a decline in Clyde’s over the last couple of years. Last night when we had dinner we ordered three separate children’s plates and were very disappointed in them. The portions were so small, that the kids were still hungry when they finished. The chicken nuggets consisted of 2 nuggets! The children’s pizza plate was tiny. Even some of the adults who ordered main course salads noted that they were smaller than they used to be. The menu used to be quite extensive, but now is one sheet of paper. It I very disappointing to see our old favorite going downhill. Clyde’s was always dependably tasty, lots of choices, good prices, and good service, but not so anymore.
Outstanding. Wish we had gotten some bread for the table before our entrees arrived but otherwise, all was well. I will return soon!
So disappointing. This was our first time going to this Clyde's. We went for their breakfast with Santa. Santa was very disappointing, even to the kids. He was a young and obviously thin guy with very dark hair with a fake beard and wig slapped on--not like what one expects to see in a decent Santa. It wasn't really a "Breakfast with Santa," but more a breakfast in the same building as Santa. Santa sat in a corner of the restaurant where parents could take the kids to see him.
The flavor of the food was good but the portions were ridiculous. The "Jumbo Crabcake" sandwich we ordered looked like a slider. It would have easily fit on half an English Muffin as part of the eggs Benedict. We should have ordered that for the same price because we would have gotten two crab cakes. Similarly, the quiche was disappointing. It was also a small portion though the flavor was fine.
We rarely saw our server and had to track him down to get the check. I opted to stick with water for my beverage and my glass wasn't filled once during the meal, though he did top off other people's at our table. Very odd.
We won't be returning to this Clyde's whoch is a shame because the decor was nice and it's convenient to the metro. They just don't even seem to try.
It took a long time for or orders to come out and once they finally came out they were under cooked. My fish was not done it was raw.
Meal was great and service outstanding.
Very good besides the fact that the main causes we served before we finished our starter. The waiter later apologized. The mussels were excellent.
One of our favorite restaurants where the only things better than the pumpkin soup are the planes, trains, automobiles and ocean liners scattered throughout the interior.
Great Bruch, always wonderful. Great service and atmosphere
The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Thank you
Service was cranky and knife was not clean
We went for thanksgiving and got the thanksgiving meal which was a great value but the turkey was dry and the rest of the food was only okay. My husband and kids really liked the pies though and the service was fantastic. Overall a good experience but the thanksgiving meal was just disappointing .... we quo’s go back but definitely not for the thanksgiving meal!
Always a solid choice. Especially on a holiday like Thanksgiving. Well prepared traditional dinner, ample servings, good service.
Great holiday meal. One person had dietary restrictions and they were handled well and pleasantly. Food was well prepared, generous in quantity and excellent in quality.
Food is always good here- great menu items . Service was wonderful. Highly recommend
Shrimp cocktail was dry (no idea how; must have been old); Bloody Mary lacked any real taste/flavor.
Disappointed. I've eaten at the various Clyde's restaurants 100 times over the years. So when a visitor from Europe was in town for lunch, I suggested Clyde's of Chevy Chase. I have to say things seem to have deteriorated there. The service was ok, but not very friendly or attentive. The food was really below par. I had a cheeseburger, should be something Clyde's would do better than most. The burger was under cooked (came red, I ordered medium) and the fries were limp and a small portion. I ordered a side of broccoli to have a veggie, and it was luke warm and there were literally only 5 small florets in the serving. They kept refilling our drinks which we didn't want (I asked them not to, did anyway) and they were out of the mussels, out of roast beef sandwich, and couldn't bring any bread with our drinks. The tuna tacos were very good, the one bright spot. If this was a diner and the bill was $40, I would be happy, but at $88 for 3 people I expected better.
Food was average. Oven roasted Brussels sprouts was good. Had the Parmesan crusted trout - crunchy but had little taste of Parmesan.
Meatloaf had no flavor....the music from the downstairs bar was too loud.
They finally have onion soup back on the menu. Clydes used to have the BEST French onion soup. Silly me -- thought this was the same. It was not. It was onions and broth, with a tiny cracker floating in it that supposedly had cheese on it. C'mon, folks! I know you want to save time on baking, but this was a poor substitute.
Always a good experience.
The crab and artichoke dip is a wonderful way to start a meal.
The trout Parmesan is an all-time favorite of mine, and Clyde’s never disappoints.
We were downstairs in the lower level. Our waiter was really really slow. And the restaurant was not very busy. He would spend way too long standing and chatting at the tables with the few customers that were there. Friendly is one thing. Gabbing too long is something else. I have waited on tables in my lifetime. Servers need to pay attention to what is going on around them.
The food was excellent. The service was not as good as Tower Oaks. Big probelm: no tissue in the women's bathroom, which the ladies rightly found unacceptable..
Had to make simple request multiple times.
Very good chicken piccata — good service and we got a quiet table at the end of the restaurant once we asked for it—
Server never came over to see if I needed anything after my meal was served.
Kitchen was really loud and our waiter was not very attentive.
Definitely a step below what we are used to here.
Food and service was excellent. Our waiter, Christian, did an outstanding job!
...an enjoyable evening.
Still need to improve timeliness of service...it has been slow the last several times we were there
The food was quite good—as usual, but the wine was marginal. We selected a Clyde’s label Cabernet-which we have had before—but the latest version was too fruity for a Cab, was thin and lacked character. It tasted as if Clyde’s had bought Two Buck Chuck and put it’s name on the bottle.
Great experience. Food was excellent and service was exceptional.
Love the interior. Also love that they validate parking. If they didn't, I probably wouldn't go. Great Oysters! Liked the Pink Moon best.
Still good prices, the best cream of crab soup, remarkable burgers and a reasonable menu.
On this trip, service was disappointing. Our waiter, Christian, made a good first impression and then immediately forgot half of our drink orders and forgot to bring bread. He mis-entered two of our entree orders and brought a comparable dish instead (a full salmon entree instead of a salmon burger and no bun, sauce or condiments for a crab cake sandwich). His offer for two free deserts in lieu seemed forced, and rather lame since we had told him we were having desert elsewhere. Eventually, after a half hour wait he got back to us and adjusted the price of the salmon entree to that of the burger. Towards the end he announced he was new and apologized.
That said, the kitchen did a good job and the meals were well prepared.
Great atmosphere - architect Rick Andrews is still missed - but the displays are beginning to show significant dust and are falling into disrepair.
Very pleasant as usual.
Birthday. I love clydes. Everything there will is good and the atmosphere is fun yet elegant.
Unfortunately the quality of the food has slipped. Crabcakes needed some crab.
Burgers and crab cakes excellent. Stella on Tap is a DC tradtion.
The foods are good but service tends to be very slow.
Crab cake was tiny so could not really enjoy the taste, whatever it was.
Room was too cold with a/c going full-blast when it was cooling off outside.
Rest of experience was good.
