About Club Lago Restaurant
Opening its doors in 1952, Club Lago has anchored the corner of Superior and Orleans since before the neighborhood River North grew up around it. Serving classic Northern Italian specialties from the Garfagnana Valley in Tuscany to steaks, chops and signature sandwiches too, the Lago's staff will recommend the perfect entree for whatever mood you're in.
Third generation owners GianCarlo and Guido are pouring the wine or serving the veal--it's a family affair. Time warp back to the fifties with a glass of chianti in a plush booth in the bar or hold court at one of the tables in the back; Club Lago's ideal for the first date, a meal before the theater or a game, or whenever you're looking to relax to great food and be a regular in a family joint.
Some call it "retro," we call it home. Benvenuti, come on in!

Club Lago Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I love "Lago." It feels like a neighborhood joint, in the best way; there is history there, sure. We dont go for what it was or may have been we go because they are sweet, funny, polite and the food is down home and delicious. Its not Spago, people. Its damn good chicken parm, good wine, great fry on mushrooms, good music and charming staff. Relax and enjoy yourself!
We enjoyed our experience at the restaurant, but the food was not as great as we had heard it was. Portion sizes are nice, but the main courses (primarily chicken dishes) didn't have much flavor. Seasoning was weak. We were also surprised that the fried calamari seemed like re-heated frozen calamari. The staff is great and the environment is very fun.
Now don't get me wrong, we are not talking gourmet fair. This is a local hang out, down to the cops eating in the corner in uniform and the guys holding down the end of the bar drinking bourbon and ginger while watching the fight. The server was real and loved hosting us for dinner, attentive and accurate recommendations. The food was rustic and authentic without being overly fussy or fancy. This is a local gem at great prices and should be your go to for a relaxed date or to host a large party. Either way, you will leave feeling like family.
One of my all-time favorites. A Chicago landmark for decades. Good location, great Italian food...classic menu, good bartenders, comfortable environment and friendly servers. I generally go for lunch or dinner, but have also stopped for a late-night snack at the bar.
Cute old school Italian restaurant. Service was excellent. Wine was a little pricey. Calamari was good, marinara was on the sweeter side. Chicken piccante was tender and good flavor. The Pasta Galassini was a nice mix of the vegetables in it, but I would have preferred mozzarella on top.
The waitstaff was friendly, knowledgeable, and fun, without being in our faces. The first thing we noticed was how terrific the bread was. Narrow, but nicely priced wine list. Entrees were so good we took the leftovers back to our hotel, then home for a second meal. Amazing that Club Lago has been in the same location, and owned by the same family since 1952, a fact of which they are justifiably proud. Had it not been for a glowing TV review, we'd never have heard of it...but are glad we tried it. Highly underrated!
Such a great gem in Chicago. Reminds of old school Italian restaurants grew up in back in the day. Close, convenient, friendly and great ambiance. Fortunate to have in neighborhood. Can't ever go wrong here. Be back soon.
