About Club Lago Restaurant
Opening its doors in 1952, Club Lago has anchored the corner of Superior and Orleans since before the neighborhood River North grew up around it. Serving classic Northern Italian specialties from the Garfagnana Valley in Tuscany to steaks, chops and signature sandwiches too, the Lago's staff will recommend the perfect entree for whatever mood you're in.
Third generation owners GianCarlo and Guido are pouring the wine or serving the veal--it's a family affair. Time warp back to the fifties with a glass of chianti in a plush booth in the bar or hold court at one of the tables in the back; Club Lago's ideal for the first date, a meal before the theater or a game, or whenever you're looking to relax to great food and be a regular in a family joint.
Some call it "retro," we call it home. Benvenuti, come on in!

Club Lago Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The service and food were great. We had reservations for 7 pm. Showed up about 10 minutes early and were seated within minutes. The server was very polite and the food arrived very quickly. We both had the chicken parm. The portions were a good size and we both left full!
We had a wonderful meal...spaghetti with sausage (sausage was some of the best I have had), and chicken saltimboca for my wife. I started with calamari and I couldn't finish it all. Saluti a Gianluca and Genevieve for excellent food and a wonderful local experience. We would definitely return.
We were really looking forward to a nice italian dinner and the place a high stars and good reviews. The space was not what i had expected and I think that threw off our vibe from the get-go.
It was a noisy bar. There werent that many people in there but those who were, were a loud (er) bunch. We were sat in a booth, directly across from the bar itself, which came off more like a dive bar/throw back feel with a tv in the corner. They had other, (probably slightly quieter) tables towards the back but we wanted a booth and the space is very open so we didnt see much difference in noise.
I was craving pasta and torn between a few items on the menu and the special that the server described to us as a chicken in a mushroom sauce, over pasta, topped with cheese and then baked. Between the 3 I was indecisive on, the server suggested the special so that is what I got. My boyfriend got the steak.
Bread was brought to the table and we ordered a bottle of fine. All fine there. We had regular glass cups though for our wine - no biggy though.
Food arrived in a timely manner. Happy there.
The flavor of my dish was good, but the pasta was well over cooked and the whole dish was swimming in sauce and cheese. I was really hoping for the wow factor from the food at least due to the high reviews and rating that the place has. My boyfriend really enjoyed his steak though. It was cooked perfectly to temperature so he was a happy camper.
Our server was also really nice and attentive though. The prices were reasonable to the portion sizes and the types of food we ordered. Im not sure we'll be planning a trip back soon, with there being so many restaurants in the city to still try.
Our family of four dined here after seeing a show. Our server did an excellent job describing the menu items. Nice assortment of traditional Italian options, especially veal. The Veal Piccante and Veal Rusticana (house special) were both outstanding. Great service, generous portions and excellent food! We'd go back in a heartbeat. Thank you, Club Lago!
My wife and I love "Lago." It feels like a neighborhood joint, in the best way; there is history there, sure. We dont go for what it was or may have been we go because they are sweet, funny, polite and the food is down home and delicious. Its not Spago, people. Its damn good chicken parm, good wine, great fry on mushrooms, good music and charming staff. Relax and enjoy yourself!
We enjoyed our experience at the restaurant, but the food was not as great as we had heard it was. Portion sizes are nice, but the main courses (primarily chicken dishes) didn't have much flavor. Seasoning was weak. We were also surprised that the fried calamari seemed like re-heated frozen calamari. The staff is great and the environment is very fun.
Now don't get me wrong, we are not talking gourmet fair. This is a local hang out, down to the cops eating in the corner in uniform and the guys holding down the end of the bar drinking bourbon and ginger while watching the fight. The server was real and loved hosting us for dinner, attentive and accurate recommendations. The food was rustic and authentic without being overly fussy or fancy. This is a local gem at great prices and should be your go to for a relaxed date or to host a large party. Either way, you will leave feeling like family.
