Club A Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I came here a couple of years ago and it was amazing. Came again and it did not disappoint. Food was amazing. I actually announced "this is so good" each time I bit into my steak. The sides were terrific. I've gone to several places in the city for steak including some of the major names; Club-A is my favorite.
This was a great experience. I chose it based on pictures and reviews, and was not disappointed. From the moment you walk in, you're enveloped in a romantic, warm red glow. Jazz music from a live trio played softly in the bar adding to the atmosphere. The menu had a nice variety, and the food was good. So was the service. Great choice for special occasions. Loved this restaurant!
Beautiful cozy space, especially upstairs. Let them know in advance if you are celebrating something - the staff goes out of their way to mark your special occasion. When we arrived, our table wasn't quite ready, so we went to the bar where the bartender offered us glasses of champagne to commemorate our anniversary. Once we were seated, our server congratulated us on our anniversary and we were given special pre-printed menus that highlighted our special occasion. The food was solid - the crab cake and ceasar salad are appetizers not to miss. I loved the bronzino fish. To cap it off, we were given a special dessert sampler on the house. And the hostess came by to take our pic and printed it out for us to take home. Really special!
I was very disappointed. It was my husband and I’s 11th Anniversary and we decided to share it up in New York. We always have a special dinner at a 5 star restaurant here in Florida and hoped to do the same up in NYC. I searched and came up with Club A. Upon arriving the we were seated in a very tight cozy table next to two other guests on each side of us. The tables were so tight it makes it a little uncomfortable to chat or to get up and go to the restroom. Open flame Candles are on each side of everyone’s table, with the slightest bump you would be on fire. I ordered the salmon (I did order it well done) it came out as if it had been fried with skin on) so it was like eating fried shoe leather. Maybe my fault for asking for well done. I didn’t say anything about it but the waiter ask why I wasn’t eating and I explained that it just wasn’t good it was too over cooked, he proceeds to “Bark” at me that it was what I ordered. I said i realized that but it’s fine. He asked if I wanted it taken back to cook differently, I said no, i was going to eat my some of my husbands and the sides. The sides we ordered were the whipped potatoes they were good and the macaroni and cheese was ok. I can equate it to kraft macaroni and cheese with a Phenomenal flavored baked crust over the top ( I just ate the top,). On the salmon, I tried to remove the skin but the salmon itself was tasteless. My husband’s steak was Delicious! Cooked perfectly for Medium Well with great taste. They sent out a complimentary dessert that was disgusting, they were giving complimentary desserts to everyone. From the taste of its freezer burn, they must have been trying to get rid of their stock. The ambiance overall was beautiful, although tight. The food was disappointing but my husband was happy with his steak. Overall I was a little disappointed that of all the 4 star romantic restaurants that I searched, I ended up elsewhere. As a local, give it a try, as a visitor to NY, find a different place.
Waiter did not take our order correctly. We asked for steak medium rare and it came medium well. We told him three times. Of course the other folks got their meals and ate while the person whose order was incorrect had to wait a long time for his steak to come correctly prepared Carrots undercooked and the creamed spinach had way too much cream and not enough spinach. The carpeting in the restaurant is really dirty. There was a party upstairs and it was quite noisy. There are better steakhouses in the city
Service was terrible right from the host, atmosphere was good, and the servers didn't bothered us or was not servicing us, forgot our bread till our steak was served, glass breaking in the background the 4hrs we dinned there,... Had the porterhouse and T-bone, porterhouse was good but T-bone was pretty overcooked, on a scale of 1-10 for a $500+ dinner, I would rate it 4.
I had made a dinner reservation for my fiance and I to celebrate my birthday and it did not go as I had hoped.
When I made the reservation on open table I had put in the comments that we were there to celebrate my birthday. I thought it was a nice touch to have "Happy Birthday" on the top of the menu. Everything started out right but then went downhill from there.
I informed the waiter that I had a gluten allergy so that he was aware for the rest of the meal. He understood that I could not eat the bread and then proceeded to tell us that we would be receiving a complimentary mushroom ravioli. I have been to similar restaurants in the area that have gluten free ravioli so when it was placed in front of me I assumed I could eat it. After I had already eaten half of if did the waiter informed me that the ravioli was NOT gluten free.
After my fiance and I had finished our meals I received a complimentary dessert. However, nothing in that dessert was gluten free. I appreciate the gesture, however it is not only frustrating, but also wasteful to put food in front of me that I cannot eat, especially if I have already made it clear that I cannot eat it.
After having told the waiter that I was gluten free I did not understand why food that I could not eat was being placed in front of me. I am gluten free because I have celiac disease. I cannot digest gluten and after eating just a portion of the ravioli I spent the night ill.
The complimentary food is a nice gesture, but I would make sure your staff is better equipped to deal with different food allergies in order to avoid miscommunications, such as this, in the future.
I sent all of this in an email to the management and it has been four days and I have yet to get a response.
Great location in the heart of New York. Walking in your gretted with great service and get nothing less the rest of the time you spend there. Service is top quality.
The food is decent, I felt as if my steak was a little chewy and over cooked on the edges. Once you get into the middle it’s cooked to the way you requested. For $60 ages ribye I expected a little more tenderness and flavour. Don’t get me wrong the steak was very good still, just expected a little wow factor. The sides that we had; mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, and asparagus where delicious.
The biggest downfall was the restroom. I hate going to very nice restaurants and seeing dirty restrooms. My wife said the same thing about the women’s restroom.
Overall good experience and will be back when in town.
My bf chose Club A for his birthday dinner as he is a steak house fan and this place receives consistently high ratings. Our first sign that something was awry was the slowness in taking our drink orders and the Stella D’Oro like offerings in the bread basket. Neither of our steaks were cooked properly and I was told that my Medium strip was grey when I cut into it because of the shape of the grill and that I should eat from the center. The sides (Mac and cheese, baked potato, spinach) were excellent and made a terrible experience slightly more bearable. Our waiter was great and couldn’t have been nicer, ultimately removing the charge for the inedible steaks from our bill. How their Yelp reviews are so good is a mystery, although I have a theory.
A wonderful evening. The food was terrific, service great and ambience lovely. Live music was a real treat. The Management was very gracious and made us feel so welcome. They made our evening very special with a picture and apps and desert. We loved everything and can't wait to come back.
The first time my husband and I went to Club A, we thought it was great. Now, a couple of years later, we were very disappointed with the Groupon meal, which has its own menu. Presumably the regular menu is still quite good, and the service is certainly good, but we would definitely not recommend the Groupon. It is not good value, and other than the steaks and the creamed spinach, the components ranged from acceptable to mediocre.
Club A looks pretty insignificant on the outside, but inside, it fits the bill of an classic, upscale steakhouse. The decor was vintage and the hostess and manager on duty were very professional and visible. Now, as for our server, unfortunately he left a lot to be desired. He may have been having an off day, but he was not attentive at all. He actually never even asked us for our drinks. Another waiter just kept our water glasses filled all night, which he lived with. The food, though, was quite good overall. I ordered the filet mignon which was average, but my husband ordered the prime rib and declared it the best steak he'd even eaten. That is a huge statement because we eat at steakhouses quite often. He raved about the steak all week. Lastly, we received complimentary desserts and they were all good, but the cheesecake was amazing.
My husband and I travel a lot and when we find ourselves back in the city, we'll be sure to visit Club A again.
