My first time at Cliff Bell's, though it has been on my list for many years given the jazz. This place is a classic...great music at a volume that didn't disrupt the conversation. Eclectic mix of people across the bar and restaurant area. Good food and drink. Our server was patient with us and let us order by course so we could enjoy the atmosphere. Menu had many classic entrees - nothing fancy - which was fine for me as I've been overwhelmed with gastropub/contemporary menus. Food prep was very good and on par with most other high-end restaurants. Will be back.

Neighborhood gem a PLUS. The jazz background was great however patrons voices were too loud to really enjoy. Food was excellent when we got it but service was slow for cocktails and main entree. Over all we loved the history and experience.

Our reservation was for 6pm and we walked out at 7:15 without eating as we had tickets to a show. Many tables were complaining and not receiving their food. Manager told us they had a new chef. Very disappointing experience for a Friday night out.

The restaurant is a great place to enjoy live music while dining, however the service can often be overwhelmed by the crowd. On our most recent visit, we had to deal with lost reservations, the hostess and server not knowing which menu was currently to be used, and several items being unavailable from the limited evening choices. That said, the food that was available was excellent, as was the live music for the evening. If we return, it will probably be just for drinks and entertainment, and choose to dine elsewhere ahead of time.

We were at our table for 30 minutes before getting a cocktail
We never saw a waiter for over 15 minutes of seating. We had to ask if we could get a wait person over
Unacceptable
The food was winderful but the service was terrible to say the least
Do not think we will be back nor recommend your place

The filet my wife had was very good. Not Mario's good, but still a nice filet. I ordered the strip steak Wagyu and it was terrible. I sent it back to get it done a little more, but my stomach hurt for two days. I had the sweet potato soup, strip that came with broccoli and scalloped potatoes. I tried to eat what I could get down, but it tasted horrible and made me ill. I never complain, but I think I should start.

I write this with mixed emotions because it's such a cool bar. Great downtown location and super cool inside. The bar is eclectic and everything from the old wood ceilings to the bar side tables make this a must see location.

Please hire a new chef. I want to come back...

Beautiful restaurant/bar. Food was only acceptable - not what one would expect for the price. We were in before the band started, so it was pretty quiet.

Had a very enjoyable evening here at the Cliff Bell's. Great Jazz club with excellent entertainment. Drink menu is extensive and the dinner menu is diverse with plenty of options.

the only issue might be close tables. If you are looking to have a personal conversation this might not be the place.

Went to Cliff Bell's for our Anniversary. It was pretty loud, but it is a jazz club with a live band, so that is to be expected. Food was very tasty, not mind blowing, but very good. The menu was standard higher-end fare - steak, salmon etc... I had the filet, it was a touch over what I wanted, but asking for medium, instead of medium-rare may have been my undoing. Again, I have no complaints, because it was still very good. My wife had the pork shank, which was very good. Again, not amazing, but very good. For the price, I'm not angry, but I certainly didn't feel like we stole the meal either.

The club had a great feel to it - warm wood and curved lines everywhere gave it an intimate "old school" feel. The service was fantastic and the music was good. Admittedly, I know little to nothing about jazz, other than I know what I enjoy. To this novice, it sounded good, and we were only there for the opening trio, not the national act, which was coming in later.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. We will be back.

Cliffs Bells is known for their nightly music scene, and I was not disappointed. The Michigan Opera Theater studio performers were hosting a night of Jazz and Opera. While many patrons attended for the a standard evening at Bells, my party was specifically interested in this event. Price points have gone up at Cliff Bells over the years. I would recommend a few "signature" cocktails, and appetizers at slightly lower price-points to stay competitive and attract the younger crowd. By far my party was the youngest group that evening, and our ages were on par with the performing artists.

Cliff Bells is a Detroit staple. It is not going anywhere and the swanky atmosphere is must for anyone visiting or native to Detroit! Be sure to check the evening line-up before you make a reservation.

Arrived on time with a reservation to a mostly empty dining room. Offered a table next to a large pole while there were a lot of open tables. Asked for a more acceptable table. Waited 15 minutes - no one came to take our drink order. We left. Very disappointing

Staff was very accommodating, kind, and willing to help with any questions and issues we had. Beautiful location. Music was wonderful. Drinks were great. Food was SUPER SALTY. I asked for light salt after noticing how salty appetizers were and my dinner was still SUPER SALTY. All 8 of us girls complained about how salty the food was. I’d return again for drinks and maybe eat if the chef gets his salt privileges revoked.

This is a fabulously restored 1930's Jazz Club with romantic lighting, great nostalgic feel and interiors. Murals on the walls, full bar that is actually beautifully displayed. The service is EXCELLENT, the food was great and it's this place is a full-on experience. The music was fantastic, classic Jazz standards that night and the only thing that I would suggest is, if you want to really listen to the music, ask for a seat right up close to the stage. People talk with "full-loudness voices" in the club and it can interfere with hearing the music. If background music is ok with you, than sit anywhere in the place. We were lucky because we wanted to hear the jazz and we got there early and requested a front row seat. We had a blast. Thanks to all the staff and musicians for a great evening.

Regardless, we had fun bc we were with our group of friends.

1. Service was bad. Not enough servers. Plenty of bartenders that stayed behind the bar but the 1-2 servers in the entire place could not handle the crowd. We waited 30-40 minutes for our second round of drinks and it wasn't even crowed yet.

2. Food was basic but good.

3. Music was ridiculously too loud. We were seated far away from the jazz band and still had to yell to one another all night.

Great live music. Service was OK but not great. The meals were well presented and tasty while a bit pricey. (no cover so I assume that's why) Not a place I can afford on a regular basis but I'd go back for a special occasion. The building is very cool. Overall, we enjoyed it.
