Cleo South Beach Ratings and Reviews
Overpriced, bad service and tasteless food. They charge you Price of a full size salad but they bring you a tiny plate and tasteless. Their menus are not updated. A tea is $7 which was brought with no care in a cup without a saucer. Dont waste your money.. touristic rip off restaurant. You have to eat on brown paper...
Cleo has been a go to favorite during 2017 but we had a challenging experience on MLK day. They we out of half of the items on the menu and they needed to pay better attention to detail. For example, we ordered the rack of lamb but they did not have a sharp knife to cut it with so we were not able to eat it. A second challenge was forgetting to provide plates once the food began to arrive.
We will give it another try next month but we noticed most of the tables were empty which makes we wonder if Cleo has changed
There are too many conflicting spices on the menu. It is hard to know what you will get. One dish paired with another may leave you feeling sick, like it did me, as the dishes are mostly experimental and bold in flavor. The value is simply not there. Expensive for questionable quality on some dishes. The artichoke hummus is the best thing on the menu. Dont order the fish... the octopus is over spiced with paprika and something else that doesnt pair well. The tagine is not traditional tagine and the cuts of meat included in this dish are pretty poor.
This was my second time at this restaurant and I really love it. The ambience is fabulous and the food is delicious. I was most impressed with the waiter who couldn't have been more helpful in assisting me with choosing vegan options. He brought me a menu with all of the vegan items circled. Everything was great! My dining companions who are not vegan enjoyed all of their meals also. The cocktail menu was very nice also and we all tried some interesting drinks that the bartender recommended. I will definitely return here the next time I visit Miami Beach!!
The food served was excellent, but the order in which it was served was unacceptable! Brussel sprouts were served before salads which came at the end of the meal after most of the small plates were served. Two items ordered were never served. This is about the tenth time I've gone to Cleo, but definitely the worst service!!!!!!
Our best meal in South Beach! We are so happy we made a reservation here. We absolutely loved every dish that we ordered, from the labneh with the delicious bread, to the tagine, the scollops and the best brussels that I have ever had (they literally melt in your mouth). We also loved our cocktails, and our server was quite good as well.
We've been to Cleo before and loved it. This time unfortunately will be our last. The service (which I view as a really important part of the meal) was sorely inattentive and lacking. To be fair, our waiter was busy. But he had no idea what dishes we'd received and which ones we hadn't. We waited over 30 min between some dishes and our waiter had no idea. Food was really good but the service was not.
So we arrived at Cleo as one of the only tables outside. 80 minutes later, we still did not have the falafel appetizer. After countless requests for the status, we ended up cancelling it. The dishes in general were too small for a family of 4 to taste and so slow coming out that I left hungry. For same money we ate at Yardbird the night before with excellent service, filling portions and excellent food.
We loved the food. But portions were so skimpy. $12 for the smallest plate of brussel sprouts. And they were out of a ton of food. It was Christmas, but they still should have been planning ahead.. was very frustrating when told and given no warning that a ton of food was not available on the menu because they were out.
The hostess was one of the rudest I have ever encountered, I dine out almost every night. She was so rude to our neighbors when she seated them that they got up and left! Our waiter was nice and the food was good, not amazing ,but very overpriced for what it was and tiny portions. With all the choices in Miami now def would not suggest going there. So many better places for the same price.
With so many good food options on sobe, gotta say this is a good spot but there’s better.
Service by waiter - great effort. Forgot the wine till later, very apologetic, understaffed and caused big delays
Food - lamb was way over cooked. Brussel sprouts - drenched in oil. Veggies, same.
Overall, we will skip next time. This was our 3rd time there and hasn’t gotten better. Save your money and go somewhere else.
First Know that I am not one to spend time writing ratings however this was such excellent food, such amazing customer service which really should be called customer care, fantastic attention to detail that it made this a lifelong memory of South Beach. Zero wait time, great table, AMAZING staff (they were what made this special) and food was best I have eaten world wide. I am a impressed with the chefs unique creativity with every dish he created and the freshness of the foods. Spiced to perfection, the meal was topped off with Freshly made lava cake.....scrumptious to say the least. One cannot claim to have enjoyed South Beach without a meal here.....or two 😊
The food, when it was actually brought to us, was excellent. Unfortunately the service was so disappointing that it kept our dining experience from being even remotely enjoyable.
Our table ordered 5 small plates to share per our waiter's recommendation. After a very extended hold with spotty-at-best care from the waiter, we finally got to dig into our first two plates - lamb and scallops. They were delicious, but after we finished with those it took nearly 30 minutes to see our waiter again. Our water glasses were empty for the majority of the meal. My partner had to go to the bar herself to get us another drink and fresh napkins.
Finally, well over an hour after arriving to the restaurant, one more of our plates was brought out (3/5 now) - again delicious, but so off-time that we could hardly enjoy it. After finishing that, I caught our waiter and told him that we wanted to cancel the last two plates and have the check brought to us. This was now two hours after arriving to the restaurant. When speaking with the manager, she heard my complaints but did not care to do much about them at all. Besides removing the 18% service charge that was automatically added to the bill, she wasn't interested in doing anything to amend the disappointing situation.
I'm sure our experience was not ubiquitous - even that night we watched multiple tables around us come and go without issues or complaints. However, when you pay a high premium at a restaurant - and you are paying a fairly high premium at Cleo - you expect great service to match the food. Given our experience I can tell you that there is a considerable chance of receiving sub-par service at this restaurant. With so many other great places to eat on South Beach, why take the risk?
We have dined at this restaurant quite a few times, the food is consistently good. My husband ordered a tequila drink and was disappointed with the value.... very expensive not enough alcohol, too much ice. Would definitely eat here again but skip the drink.
Food was excellent. We enjoyed several items. The best was the Lamb shawarma served with tender well seasoned lamb in their fantastic warm pita. The wait staff seemed stressed and consequently hurried. The venue is basically tapas; and the waiter insisted that we order everything at the same time which felt like we had to be in and out ASAP. The table next to us point blank told him “we are not in a hurry”. So excellent food, really good cocktails.
Left our ccard by mistake and it was stolen by staff and used within 4 hours. You can not hear it is so loud. All food is tapas- definately tasty but expensive with almost all being 20$+. You need 2-3 plates pp.
They drop your food whenever ready so even tho people ordered food at same time there was at least a 20 min difference between getting 1st tapas orders. Wait staff pays no attention to you- they are so busy with so many tables I don’t understand the rationale. They definately could use more wait staff. If you grabbed a bus person for help since you could never get the waiter they said yes but never came back with requested item( 3 different people). I would never go back again. If you go do sit outside the noise level inside is over the top- had to yell to neighboring seat 3 inches away. Terrible service. They were very nice on the phone for reservation.
