Cleo - Hollywood Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant overall was nice. The service was amazing- the food was below expectation and not very authentic for Mediterranean food. Really great wine list. Great place to go for a tourist in Hollywood- maybe not a place for a local with a sophisticated palette. Great for a business meeting or a group with varying food preferences- it does accommodate vegetarian and limited gluten free options.
I loved the place however I had only one issue. While booking reservations I had mentioned that it was my anniversary and on comments I had mentioned it would be great if you would have got me a cake on my table.Would have been a surprise for my wife. However nothing of that sort happened and nobody asked me or got me anything on my table.I delayed ordering my deserts just in case if it was a surprise.Other than that it was a lovely place with great ambience to go out for dining.
I read multiple reviews in advance and they capture the basics - great food to share - the Brussel sprouts are good - loved ordering multiple small plates and tasting everything. I think I'd stick to the vegetarian options next time I went. Only tried the chicken (multiple dishes) but it was more of the pressed chicken type substance which I'm not a huge fan of. My friend really liked it. Order food in small groups as they have small tables. This also gives you a chance to see how you like something before you order the next dish. If you're going to see a show at the Pantages, let them know ahead of time - they work to accommodate you. I'd definitely go again!
Great dining experience! Terrific cocktail menu (I had the Lotus Flower which was very yummy - disclaimer: I like sweet cocktails.) This place is best for groups, as the dishes are meant to be shared. I happened to be flying solo that night on account of a business trip, so I happily shared my tapas with me, myself & I. Like other reviewers, I liked the brussel sprouts. The mushrooms was great too, although after a while the strong flavors of both dishes combined became overpowering. That was solved with eating a bunch of crackers from my tuna tartare dish (which would have been better if I didn't gulp it all up when it arrived first). Overall, the dishes were a hot non-traditional take on Mediterranean food, in a delicious way.
The ambiance is great, service is OK, but the food was the best part. Loved how the food comes out periodically and you can order multiple things and share. The Lamb Shawarma was so good we ordered two of them. Drinks are expensive but food prices are more reasonable than you would expect.
I would recommend to a friend and may have to go back again to try more dishes myself.
Cleo's never disappoints. Had to get in and out quickly for Hamilton and they were on the ball. Food came out quickly and service was very attentive. The best of all is the food just continues to be extra special.
Every small dish we ordered hit the spot and just when we wanted a little more of each one of them, the next dish came and we're glad we didn't fill up. We had two starters, two entrees, a vegetable dish and the wonderful Panna Cotta dessert and was still under $75.
Can't recommend Cleo's enough. Worth coming to in Hollywood no matter what the occasion.
Seated right away with our reservation. Service was outstanding. Our waiter explained both the way the restaurant functioned as well as eactof the food items we were interested in. The food was perfectly prepared and presented nicely. We were not rushed and made it s relaxing dinner before the Theatre.
We picked this venue because of it’s proximity to Pantages. Nice restaurant, conveniently located, food was awesome, but they were rude when they called to confirm my reservation the day before and our waitress was rude as well, at one point rolling her eyes at us when she felt we had not ordered enough food. For 6 people we started with about 10 items and later ordered about 5 more, plus 6 desserts. The bar was not open prior to our reservation so we went across the street to Wood & Vine. Much friendlier atmosphere! Will most likely go there next time.
Had dinner there after the Hamilton Sunday matinee show. Very convenient location to the Pantages. 2 block walking distance. We were very pleasantly surprised with how good everything was. Food, drinks & service all very nice. Will definitely visit there again.
Cleo is on our rotation list. Service was ok, but the dishes we like were skimpy and their flagship dish, Brussel Sprouts (2 orders) came soggy and extra greasy, as though they are compromising taste for speed. Coffee was served, but no refills. Why we tipped, I don’t know why!
Parking was an issue. $26 compared to validation and a much lower rate for previous visits. Why we tipped, I don’t know why!!
The location is beautiful. However, we were a larger party and they gave us bench seating a few people complained that it was uncomfortable. I would definitely request a different table if you get the bench seats. The food is mostly small and mid sized plates made for sharing. The signature drink, brussel sprouts and lamb with israeli cous cous are notable standouts. However the chicken skewers are bland and the duck pastry a big miss. However, the main draw back was the server. She lacked hospitality and was focused on upselling. The service was poor. As a result of her pushing and misinformation we ordered way too much food. She kept saying its not enough, I'll just make that two orders. The dishes, and there were a lot of them, were no explained. One of my guests even said that they felt like the server was scolding them for not ordering right. So while the location and most of the food was good, the seating set up and the service put a damper on the evening.
I booked an rsvp over two weeks prior to reservation. I requested a nice table as it was a celebration for a birthday. We were seated at the most horrible area... no ambiance at all. It was the tables BEFORE the main entrance of the restaurant. The food was mediocre and the service was not great. We ordered a few apps and a few moments later we ordered the rest of our dishes. After, we have eaten our meal... we remembered they never served us our soup. Now, I have no clue if the restaurant was busy as we were seated no where near the main dining area. But, really? Soup is the last to be served? It’s suppose to be first with the apps! Anyway, we cancelled the soup as it took too long. Also, don’t get the ravioli is was inedible! We had a table next to us contemplate ordering the ravioli so we had one of them try ours and they thought the same thing. The pasta sauce was gross and the pasta was over cooked. It’s as if they messed it up, over cooked it and decided it’s okay let’s still serve it. With the high reviews from this restaurant I definitely expected more. Would not recommend this restaurant. Too many other options near by like Beauty and Essex.
