Cleo - Hollywood Ratings and Reviews
Have visited this restaurant many times in the past. We had arrived 90 minutes ahead of a show we were to see around the corner and restaurant aware of our time constraints. Service was horrible and the food server never apologized for not getting our food in a timely fashion. We never part of our order. Manager was also notified and never bothered to compensate us for their mistake. Would not recommend this location. There ARE other choices!
We went to the Cleo before going to Hamilton at the Pantages which is a 30 second walk. Our goal was to park prior to having dinner so we didn't have to rush and be late to the play.
It was very convenient and the food was great. The mushrooms were just Ok but the Tuna Tartare was outstanding. Nice ambience and great location for the Pantages.
We arrived prior to the Hamilton show for a birthday celebration dinner. The restaurant was extremely noisy and crowded. The food was acceptable if you like small plate dining. Our main complaint was the lack of acknowledgement of the birthday. We were asked to buy a dessert and they would only supply us with 2 candles. We have never dined at a fine restaurant that didn't provide a complimentary birthday dessert for their guests. If you are dining for a celebration you should pick another more accommodating restaurant.
Dined there prior to attending a show at the Pantages. Hostess inquired about that particular fact so that they could make sure to keep an eye on the time. Refreshing!! Overall - the evening was very good. The place is very energetic, borderline crazy but the wait staff had it well under control. As usual in this type of restaurants the room is over crowded with small tables, very little room to the next tables. Menu is tapas style - we ordered 7or 8 (lamb, shrimp, duck, brussel sprouts etc. ) which were all - w/o exception excellent. Wait staff was very attentive and polite. The only gripe I have is the speed with which all the dishes were served. With in 5 minutes everything was on the table which made us feel rushed.
Reservations a MUST. We had a group of 4 but found 4 seats at the bar so gave up our table. If you want a seat at the bar be there when it opens at 5:30PM. I'm glad we were at the bar; the entire restaurant was jammed. And loud. I am not sure conversation across a table would he heard. The drinks were fabulous, food wonderful, staff professional. Only issue is the noise. This is not a spot for a romantic evening or quiet conversation. But fun and we loved everything we tried.
Great time prior to seeing Hamilton. There were eight of us all together which enabled us to share a plethora of entrees, salads, appetizers, etc. Favorites included lamb sliders, fried chicken, Brussels sprouts.
We have been to Cleo now four or five times and it never fails to deliver. Park once for Cleo and the Pantsges.
The food is pretty good, but quite pricey for what you get. VERY small portions even by "small plates" standard. The service was OK, but could have been friendlier. I've visited twice, both times to have dinner before going to a show at Pantages. It's very conveniently located for the theater (few minutes walk). If you want to arrive in vicinity early and miss traffic/parking problems for a show, then this is a good option.
Actually, Cleo is more like 4.5. Everything was great except when we showed up for our reservation. The place was empty except for two tables. We liked the look of a table next to where they were going to seat us, because it was high with stools. When I asked if we could sit there instead, she said there were a lot of reservations and she’d have to go ask the hostess. Like I said, there were two tables in the entire restaurant occupied. She came back a few minutes later seeming slightly annoyed. They added 4 plates to the otherwise preset table. After that, she walked over to us and said to go seat ourselves (didn’t cordially lead us to our table). What was up with her? After that little bump, all was good. Great waitress, great food and a fun place to eat. I’m a big fan of this restaurant and have been several times over the years.
We ate at Cleo before going to the Pantages Theater, which is about a half block away. Although it took a good 15 minutes before our server paid a call, once she did drinks and food arrived quickly and, without rushing the meal, we made it to the play with a good five minutes to spare. Our meal, served "family" style, consisted of 8 or nine "tapas" sized plates and was excellent. We particularly liked the fried chicken and the meatballs, although all of it was tasty. Only real complaint was too much ambient noise, but unfortunately that's true of almost all "in" restaurants today.
Love This Restaurant Great For Dining Before The Theater In Hollywood Their Menu Has So Very Many Amazing Small Dishes To Share , Way To Many To List. Their Drinks Are One Of A Kind Service Is Good Let Your Server Know You Are Going To The Theater ALSO HAVE A Location At
LA LIVE , SURE YOU WILL GIVE IT A TRY REAL SOON . Can't Wait To Return Plus Try Something New,......
We chose Cleo because it was close to the Pantages. It was the best choice we could have made. Our table was ready when we arrived. There were 13 of us. The food was beautiful and delicious. It came out in a timely manner, arriving hot and fresh. I would highly recommend Cleo for any occasion.
I went here for the first time with a group of 4. All of the food was delicious! My only complaint was the waitress bringing us the wrong order of shrimp, but she took it off the bill. She also added an extra portion of something we didn't order because the original order only came with 3 pieces. We didn't ask for that and she explained that the restaurant customarily does that to make sure everyone in the group can try it. I wish they would've asked rather than assuming we wanted an extra order, but other than that, the restaurant was great. Very yummy cocktails too.
We had the opportunity to visit Cleo before seeing Hamilton at the Pantages. Cleo was recommended by a good friend as a "Must eat" restaurant. We made our reservations and when we arrived, although the restaurant was very crowded, we were seated immediately. The decor was impressive as it has a ver Art Deco feel. Most of the patrons were dressed in business casual. The menu is varied wth many small bites, otherwise know as Tapas. We ordered the Merguez sausage, Spanakopita, Dolmades, Lamb Shawarma, Octopus and Borek along with a couple of adult beverages. The food was quite delicious as were the drinks. The staff had us in and out in just over an hour to make sure we made it to our musical on time. The staff were friendly and attentive.
An unexpectedly pleasant experience. We, like most of the reviewers here, were going to see Hamilton, and we found Cleo on Open Table. We weren't expecting too much given the neighborhood and its proximity to the Pantages.
Victoria, our server, asked if we had to make Hamilton. She then walked us through the menu and suggested sharing about four or so dishes. My wife ordered the moussakah and brussels sprouts and I ordered the hanger steak and sausage flatbread. All excellent.
For dessert Victoria suggested the baklava. Basically for two, it also included four different types of cookies.
The only downside is it is a little noisy because it is quite a large restaurant. But great food, great service. Good value.
We'll be back.
