Cleo - Hollywood
Great food and ambiance. Dined here with family after touring the area. Our waitress made some great suggestions including the trio of dips and grilled octopus. The octopus was grilled just right, tender and flavorful. My children enjoyed it. We also shared the mixed grill platter and chose the herb couscous and Greek fries as out two sides. All the meats were tender and flavorful with the trio of dips (garlic aioli, house-made harissa, and a type of tomato relish) highlighting each meat. We finished with the dessert mezze of which we loved the Greek yogurt ice cream with sour cherries and zeppole with a berry sauce and pistachio sauce our favorites.
Excellent service. Good food, great ambience. Would come back and recommend.
We used to come to Cleo once a week and it was always amazing / they have just re-opened and are having growing pains. The manager, Alison, is absolutely first class and we believe that she will get the restaurant back on track. The cocktails are over priced at $18 - the competitors are in the 12-14 range and the food has gone up in price and down in size. Once they have corrected their re-opening issues we will be regular customers, but only if they get their prices in line with their old prices and everyone elses.
We were excited to come here due to the interesting menu and the convenience of being so near the Pantages. The service was good and the food was pretty good, but the prices didn't seem to match the value. Entrees were high priced and totally without any additions, vegetables or sides. So by the time you put together a meal, it was extremely pricey for what it was-- good, but not so memorable that I'd want to come back. We had fish that we were told was "fresh," but it just was OK. Also, as the time got closer to theater time, it was extremely noisy which always detracts from a relaxed meal.
Order the fish! The fish was the best part of our meal. The service was wonderful. Our lovely server was attentive without being intrusive.
They were out of the food I really wanted at 6pm, it was overpriced for food that didn’t wow us. It was decent food, server was sweet, and ambiance is nice. It seemed better before they remodeled.
Wish there were more vegetarian options
We were disappointed with the re-opening. We waited a long time for our food, then it came without much time between dishes. We did shared plates - most portions were in three's - shared servings should be in two's or four's. Noise level was insane. There were a couple big groups and their noise affected the rest of the diners. Our server was not very attentive and a request for a different table, away from the loud groups was not granted even though there were lots of other tables available. Did not feel welcome and also, this reservation didn't earn any open table points - why should I go back?
I went before they remodeled and just went this week. I remember the food was really good back then but it was not so. It was so salty that i could not enjoy the food at all.
So excited to go back to Cleo, which had been one of our favorites. It’s been open 5 weeks, so maybe there are weaknesses. Reservation was at 6:30, we were seated at 7. Hostess makes excuses saying that people are lingering at their tables. Restaurants know how to book, so that you aren’t kept waiting. Menu has some old favorites and is now more seafood oriented. We ordered just appetizers: 3 dips with pita, pita was hot and delicious but had a lot of salt on it. Crispy eggplant, salty.
Calamari was soggy and bland, octopus was so chewy that two of us spit it out, spicy cigars were dry and salty. Salad was good.
At the old Redbury Hotel, you parked in the parking lot with valet parking. Now there is a valet sign right in front of Cleo, no mention of price nor a sign indicating that there is no validation.
$20 to valet.
It was a great restaurant before they closed it. Sadly, that Cleo is no more. Will not be returning.
Great location before going to Pantages. Portions were large (we got the rock fish and sides of couscous, rice, all of which we should have shared and would have much preferred our server to have suggested it). Also got brussels and asparagus which were easily shareable, and the trio of dips which was delightful (need to ask for more bread). I had a Green Envy cocktail which was refreshing and strong.
The place is unbearably loud, which prohibits conversation even with someone just two feet away. No one should be yelling across their dinner to be heard. Service was excellent and a nice setting otherwise. Lamb tagine was superb. Food & drinks overpriced. I will not return.
Wonderful meal & service. The whole red snapper was an outstanding entree! Artichokes & asparagus seasoned well. Only downfall is the noise level.
I thought the prices did not match the value of the experience. Food was fresh and tasty but did not wow me and the portions were small for the price. I find Jaffa better value and has more of a wow factor. The server was ok but again did not wow me. There was another server in a different section that seemed to be far more hospitable and charming, so I see there is such service there. The hosts were efficient. The manager was attentive and did a couple of table visits. One to replace our wine that had a fly in it. He noticed that and that impressed us. It was little wonder that the place was quiet from 6pm to 8pm on a Thursday night.
100% all around! Great service! Delicious food! We ordered crispy eggplant chips and saffron paella.
Solid meal. Half the lightbulbs in the place were burned out. Kind of strange. Glad you’re open again. Paella was great!
Great food the only thing that lacked was our server. Once we placed our order we only saw him once and would have to grab his attention.
We came here before a show at the Pantages. It’s a fairly small dining area and a little tight squeezing into a booth. Service was excellent! Food was good too. We were a party of 4 and we split the meat mezzo mixed grill. Meat was flavorful. We also ordered the prime beef shish kebab, the trio of dips, and the crunchy squash blossoms. All good. It’s a bit pricey but to be expected in this area. Convenient if you’re looking for a dinner place before a Pantages show.
We did not like their new menu. They took off the best of the old.
to be honest the service was ok but the food was not worth the money we paid!!
it was ok but no good or great!
We didn’t like the food, not something our taste buds enjoyed
Great food and got us out in time for theater!
Sadly the old menu was missed and was superb I can’t understand the change. Everyone I know who frequented Cleo in the past raved.
The food was mediocre
The place was beautiful and therefore wasted on this menu that was lackluster and lacking in so many ways.
Servers were very pleasant however not very attentive especially when it was not busy
Support staff were more attentive
Old menu was so much better. New chef and new menu completely. The old menu was a lot more Mediterranean. We were so excited about the reopening but so devastated that the good old Cleo was no more. Very expensive for a few vegetables that we ate.
Food was good. Not exceptional. Acoustics are not good, hard to talk over other conversations. Server was lovely but our entrees took a long time to arrive and were delivered at different times. Like 30 minutes apart.
Good food, beautiful setting, great service. I would definitely return!
Very nice, great service and food was very good
I loved Cleo before its new ownership and menu change. This was our go-to place before seeing a show at Pantages. The prices are higher, the food was nowhere near as good as it used to be and the favorites that I would return for are all off the menu now. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
I tried two entrees after sending one back. I was disappointed in both.
I won’t be going back. Dirty bathrooms, poor hostesses, mediocre food and service.
Very small servings for the price
If you like your food dripping with grease, lacking flavor and wildly overpriced, then this is the place for you. Corporate vibe, the kind of place for diners who don't much care about truly good food, decent value, or authenticity (they say it's Mediterranean--but we couldn't see how). Even tourists won't like it here.
The Saffron Paella and the brussel sprouts were excellent. Good cocktails, too. Only issue was after eating the fried eggplant chips (yummy albeit very very greasy), later that night my dinner companion and I both had very upset stomachs which lasted hours. We both attributed this discomfort to the excess oil in the eggplant. We did have seafood in the paella but it tasted fine and don't think our intense cramping & nausea was due to that, as with shellfish it would have been much worse. We politely suggest the kitchen reduce oil used in frying and/or certainly blot the eggplant more after removing from the pan. Thank you.
Attention needs to be paid to the glasses. We were served water in glasses that were not fully cleaned. For example; faded lipstick stain and smudges on the glass. Also when serving your delicious dish of paella please bring a small plate for the empty shells. Otherwise, everything else was fantastic.
Absolutely loved this restaurant! We came here pre pantages show and had dinner at 6pm. Everything from the unique cocktail served in a puffer fish shaped glass, to the appetizers (the babaganoush was incredible) to the mains (amazing Branzino and Lamb Kafta) was sooo good! The waitstaff was friendly and sweet, and even the table bussers were helpful and kind. The ambiance was sophisticated and peaceful- not noisy.
Great place to eat before heading to the theater. Very noisy though.
Cleo used to be our go-to restaurant before a Pantages show, but we visited for the first time since it re-opened and it's at least not yet what it once was, unfortunately. The food and service was less impressive than it used to be, but still the same cost. It seemed like everyone was new and still getting their bearings. And the more modern decor may make it more trendy, but it's also less interesting and unique than it used to be. Hopefully it will improve in time.
The food was good. We missed the old menu and the old cocktails. I did have a cocktail that was great though. We’ll come back
Miss the old menu BIG TIME
