Other than being a sauna was great!
Very reasonable price after 9pm for happy hour. Food was great, I had the bucatini pasta. Seems a smaller portion at first but very rich and filling. The double cocktails for 8$ also can’t be beat. Too many to choose from. Very creative and tons of flavours. Very noisy as it’s usually packed, conversation can be tough. Service is average-good as it’s busy all the time, but they are attentive and nice.
Food was tasty, price was great. Friendly service. Well done folks. I was disappointed they ran out of bone marrow.
Staff wasn’t the greatest
an early dinner, and we could not hear each other speak, the music was deafening! The food was tasty, but low fat diets would have a problem. Keto options were OK.
We had a group of 5. We all voted. These are the averages:
Noise level 1.8 (too loud for easy conversation)
Wine list was extremely deficient
The place itself is neat but service was meh- felt like we were an inconvenience half the time ... food portions were not the greatest ... steak and eggs for $20+ and you get 4 pieces of steak already cut up.. wouldn’t necessarily go back for brunch at least .. nothing that made us go “wow” oh and did I mention the service wasn’t all that terrific.
Had also asked for a high chair in the OpenTable booking but there wasnt even space for us to sneak in between the tables never mind a high chair
they should re-evaluate some of their breakfast menu items. $17 for 1 poached egg, 2 pieces of bacon and a swath of hash browns is pretty pricey. I added a second egg. it would have been a better value to add a second egg, half the hashbrown and add a second meat or avocado or fruit, etc...
Best Salad I have ever had, great cocktail menu and fresh vegetables! Highly recommend!
Great food, great restaurant and clever decor and character. The drinks are top notch in creativity and the food is very yummy and pretty affordable with some dishes being on the smaller side. Desserts however are amazing value and delicious.
Would go again for sure!
One of my favorite places to go for happy hour.
Cocktails are $8 and they don't skimp out on any ingredients.
The sliders are also all very unique and delicious. Highly recommend this place for a younger crowd or a crowd that doesn't mind that it can get a little loud in the restaurant.
All of the food we had was awesome thanks for the great night
Love this place, Great food, and a good value during happy hours but service was slow ...
We love cleaver. It is our favorite spot downtown for date night and recommend it to all of our friends and family. We just took my brother & sister in law there for a double date night and they also loved it. The drinks are fun and unique, the menu is great, the staff is always amazing and we can never complain. It is darker though, and quite loud. This is definitely a good spot for a first date or any date of any kind. It is fun and loud and you'll be entertained all night with the fun drinks and amazing food. If you are looking for a quite evening to have deep private conversations, this is not the place. However, if you're looking for a great time, great food and fun environment definitely recommend. My sister in-law is celiac and over half of the menu had the option to be celiac friendly! YOU MUST MAKE A RESO if you want to get in before 9:30-10:00 on a weekend. It is super easy to make reservations day off, and I highly recommend doing so.
Great service, it was fun to watch the bartenders do their thing making cocktails. Delicious food and for a great deal during happy hour!
Walked in, every single employee looked miserable which truly reflected on the ambiance for our experience this time around. The cooks, servers, bartenders all were frowning the entire experience. The server we had (Chelsea) purposely didn’t tell us nor the surrounding customers about the sliders being on happy hour or nor was it publicly displayed anywhere. This happened twice already. Once seeing the website, we asked about it and she abruptly brought it up. The neighbouring customers had no idea either until we had to ask her about it.
The food was unfortunately not as great as the first two times that we came. Not only were the buns slightly burnt this time, our server rarely came around. We could only eat 2 out of the 6 sliders that we purchased. Disappointing date night.
We also found it quite ironic that “happy hour” beer was priced at 8 dollars for 16oz. Only person that was happy during those hours was the owner.
Got a reservation at a table, but was told we could only sit at the bar. Then we were seated at gringo street instead. Server talked over me the entire time and we got the impression he didn't want anything to do with us. I've had the food before and it was good, but the service is garbage.
The food is always great, awesome cocktails and friendly staff!
We (three gals well dressed, attractive and cheerful) went to experience their interesting cocktails on a hot sunny Saturday late afternoon. The patio had two parties on it and three or more open tables. We asked for a table on the patio. They told us that it was waitlisted. No one showed up to the patio for over an hour. They seated us at the table inside near the entrance and the phone which rang frequently. The wait staff at the phone tried to talk to us and answer the phone. There were many other tables free. Our server tried to push cocktails on us.... the staff were not friendly or helpful or pleasant.
Waffle and chicken from the brunch was delicious.
Tasty food but very small portions.
The tables are very squished together. I know it’s part of the ambience to have mood lighting but I found inside it was just too dark for a summer. The food was great especially the sliders that came out fast. Seemed like the server had a very large section so it took a while for service.
I have been to Cleaver a few times and always enjoyed it. But this past Saturday was not what I had come to expect. My friend, who is in the restaurant industry, ordered a drink that was recommended to her by the waitress. When she didn’t like it and sent it back not only was she charged for it (we both had ordered other drinks with our dinner too) which was one thing that was unexpected in itself. But then it was made a big deal of in taking it back to the bartender, having them try it and because it tasted as it should she paid for it. The patrons beside us also knew what was happening. Paying for it was one thing but it made the experience awkward for many and embarrassing for my friend.
We went down the street to Lulus and when my friend was hesitant to try one of their cocktails we told the story and was reassured if she didn’t like it they would change it - no charge. That’s what both of us would have expected so Cleaver was a disappointment this time for sure.
Food was decent was service was awfully slow. Waited 50 minutes for an order of sliders! With all the other amazing restaurants on 17th Ave definitely wouldn't come back here.
The food and drinks at Cleaver were delicious. Would definitely go back. Just be aware that if you are going in the summer there was no AC and it can get quite hot in the restaurant. We were seated at the very back near the kitchen and the heat was almost too much.
I took a friend for her first time. She was greeted right away and sat right away as I had made a reservation. When I arrived, it took over 10 Minutes before the server came back, and we were seated at the bar. The place was busy but service was slower than I expected it to be.
The cocktails were amazing as always.
Will definitely still come back will leave myself a little more time next time.
Overall was pretty good, the only issue was a bit too hot sitting indoor during Summer
Alex is an awesome bartender! Food was fantastic! Cleaver never disappoints.
Cleaver was fantastic. The food was exceptional and service outstanding.... Also great cocktails.... I was there with kids and my mum, so the music was a little loud for them, but otherwise an excellent little restaurant... Highly recommend.
My friends birthday and they went out of their way to make the evening extra special!
Just love Cleaver, so many delicious cocktails and sliders. Staff were all great. Have already suggested all my colleagues check it out!
It was amazing I love coming here it’s my favourite place for a great drink!
Everything we ate was sooooo good! The staff were amazing, specifically a guy that came around a few times making sure we were okay and giving us some tids bits on the restaurant and menu ( I wish I had gotten his name!). If I HAD to make any complaint it would be that our table was super close between to other tables tables which make it a bit awkward at times, BUT that is being super nit picky and not enough of a thing to ever prevent us from going again!
We enjoyed our brunch date here (again 😉)... we will be back soon 👍🤗🙌
Great food - poutine!!!
If you want to sit outside specify when making reservation
We went for brunch. The menu is pretty good, and the prices are much lower than other places. However, the portions are smaller - which isn’t a bad thing, but you get what you pay for. The food was good, but it wasn’t spectacular. The hashbrowns were disappointing. Service was great!!!
Best food I’ve had in Calgary. Incredible.
We made a reservation for 630, had to wait in the doorway when we arrived and then ended up sitting right at the front door. Seats available on patio and server told us that we weren’t on the wait list for those. Good food but better service expected.
The food was amazing!! Great service as well. Great atmosphere although it was really loud.
