I prefer the one in Covina. For some reason the food is better at that location.

Short description - NEVER AGAIN. The quality of the steak we had was somewhere between IHOP and Denny’s. For those that love this place, don't worry. I will never go back. Reminds me of a old roadside spot that still has the illusion that it is a real restaurant. There are so many other choices around.

I have always enjoyed the North Woods Inn, and have bee to the San Gabriel and Azusa locations, it is a very meat and potatoes spot and has great decor. I would recommend it to anyone with a health appetite that is not particularly health conscience. The food is rich, heavy, large and wonderful. Now going to NWI For our anniversary dinner it was a mistake. Making a reservation and asking for a secluded romantic table as a request sounds good, but the hostesses do not read the notes and will stick you at the first table they find. I had to ask to be moved and remind them of the request I had made for our anniversary, and they seemed put out that I actually asked politely to be moved. Our waitress was very nice, pleasant and did a great job. I will absolutely be going back to NWI, but it will not be for a special occasion like my anniversary.

Food is just as good as I remember it from 20 years ago! Ambience casual peanut shells all over the floor... The food was meant to be tasted and is not really set up for anybody's diet but the flavor is incredible. Excellent old fashioned steak house experience! Wait staff was friendly and very happy. Overall experience was just what I needed great food, great drinks, happy waiters, an excellent evening!

We were very excited to go to this restaurant as we received a gift card from family at Christmas.

My wife order her steak well done and it was very pink inside, so we had to send it back. They over-buttered the bread to the point the butter was ozzing out. The salad and cabbage was good, but couldn't make up for everything else...too bad, we wanted to really enjoy it.

I've been to these restaurants a number of times and the food is always very good. Their two salads, a purple cabbage slaw and a blue-cheese/lettuce salad, are highlights. The garlic bread is delicious but really, really greasy...the oil squishes out of the bread into your mouth when you bite down on it.

I've never understood serving two starches with the meal, though. You get a huge baked potato AND rice pilaf. I'd rather have a vegetable than the rice. A couple of sprigs of broccoli would make the meal complete.

The prices are inordinately high for the style of restaurant and the type of food being served. When you serve garlig bread on a plate covered with foil, you're not serving food that costs $30+ per person.

this place had been a family favorite for many years. fast forward 20 years and we are back in the area for a visit. boy have things changed. what was once a regular family dining spot has become incredibly expensive unless you order something simple like soup or a burger. still the same delicious cabbage salad and cheese bread; recipes seem to be the same. there used to be lines out the door and almost always a wait to dine. the other night only one dining area open and not nearly full. no wait, no lines. very short staffed. tv's all around the bar. no live piano player. they've sold off almost all of the property and a big kohl's dept. store looms over the entrance. things seem rundown, the roof needs a coat of white paint. we were so disappointed. i'd go back again but my expectations will be so much lower.

Sometimes you just have to go to North Woods Inn because you've got to get your fix of the green salad with blue cheese dressing, the red cabbage salad, and the cheese bread. So wonderful! Any other items you order just add to that experience.

Great unique environment, help was generally friendly but waitress was friendly but seemed impatient or not quite fully into her job, could't tell. In fairness to her the two of us were on a first date and spent 3 hours at the table. On 2nd thought though she wasn't really personable from the start, but possibly just her personality. She did a good job at coming back to the table several times to ask us
how things were.

Salmon was very good but not especially flavorful. Food in general was pretty good, though the peanuts in a bowl that are put on the table at the start weren't very crisp or fresh.

Hadn't been to Clearman's for some time and celebrated a birthday there with a party of four. The prices have gone up considerably and even though the food portions were huge, I didn't feel the price was justified. It is also a very noisy atmosphere. The acoustics are horrible and we had to almost yell in order to be heard across the table. We love the continuous salad & sodas and the service was very good but we won't be going back for quite a while, if at all because of the high prices and noise. The noise-level star-rating choices for noise level needs to include LOUD because ENERGETIC is NOT the word I would have used to describe it.

Clearman's North Woods Inn is a throw-back in time. The peanuts are provided for your munching pleasure and you get to throw the shells on the floor! The food is consistent in taste and quality, and priced to please. You can go small or go big, it's all up to you. They also have a full bar, if you're interested in a cocktail or two. It's a great place to go when you want a good meal with all the trimmings and attentive service.

My family has been celebrating birthdays here for as long as I can remember (I'm 54). While I've indicated that the noise level was quiet, it was due to the fact that we were in an isolated portion of the restaurant (there were 17 of us)--when the dining rooms are full, the noise is moderate to noisy. This means the occasional enthusiastic exclamation from the younger members of our family don't bother the other diners, but we are still able to converse during our meal.

There are steaks and seafood that my family enjoys. I usually choose to have a potato, cheese bread and the two house salads as my meal YUM!

Always enjoy their corned beef sandwich - totally yummy sandwich. We all traded the side it comes with for another salad, because you have to have the green salad and the red cabbage salad at Clearman's! And who doesn't love all those peanuts? In fact, we had lunch, went out for a walk and were so hot that we came back in the late afternoon for a beer here. Great service, always helpful and smiling.

This has always been my favorite place to eat at for my birthday as a kid. I decided to spend Valentine's Day here with my girlfriend. From their salad to their cheese bread, food is always great here! We had a reservation for 9:30pm and was seated well before our promised time. Our server was friendly and on top of everything! We'll be back here again very soon! We both had the Lobster and Filet Mignon and left with plenty to eat the following day!

Cheese bread was dry and hard not moist and delicious as it usually is. It seemed like it was microwaved from the day before. Large lumberjack steak was small and full of gristle. It was hard to chew and not flavorful. $31.95 is too much to pay for a bad steak. Red cabbage salad was chopped very coarse so it wasn't delicious as it usually is. Waitress forgot to bring our drinks so food got there first and we didn't get to make our usual toast before eating. It was Valentine's Day so it should have been very special. We still had a wonderful time.

We can remember this resturant 15 years ago when you had to wait 2 hours to eat. Not this time it was like a goast town at 6:30 pm. They had leased a large portion of the old parking lot to Khols for a store. There was 3 resturants on the property at that time. A Steak and Stien and Boat. The Boat had been rebuilt on a different part of the property and Steak and Stien was gone. The prices were on the pricy side. Maybe not for California. The food was just average. Not what it use to be.

The menu leaves a lot to be desired. Their costs are more in line with what I would expect to pay at a high end restaurant. Steak was ordered Med Rare....came med well. Rice pilaf is dry and bland. The house made blue cheese and their cheese bread are awesome. WAAAAYYYY too much butter on the baked potato. At the end of the day..no appetizers, 1 soda, 2 entrees. $60 before tip. We won't be back.

This is the place to come when you have a craving for indulgent comfort food - and lots of it. The blue cheese/ranch salad dressing is fantastic, and you can feel that cheese bread clogging your arteries as you eat it. When the entrees are served, even though I know it's coming, the size of the potato piled with cheese butter never ceases to surprise me. You know that you're going to take home enough to have another meal the next day.

For anyone who loves a good steak sauce, be sure to ask your waiter to bring you some of their house steak sauce. It's very good with chunks of tomato in it.

Clearman's does allow you to bring in your own wine and charges a reasonable $15 corkage fee per 750ml bottle. Larger ones are not permitted.

You can already buy Clearman's cheese bread spread in some supermarkets. Now I'm just waiting for them to market that fabulous salad dressing and their steak sauce! So many things about this restaurant are really great. The only thing I would improve on is speed of service. During the course of our meal there were a couple of times when we were waiting a bit too long for the waiter to come by the table. As long as you aren't dining there when you're short of time, that shouldn't be a problem. We certainly did not feel like we were being rushed.

Been coming here since it opened and though the location has changed (was in Monrovia back in the 60's) the food and décor haven't. Still great salads, cheese bread and steaks served on wood tables in a giant log cabin. Their house steak sauce is great on the rice and the blackberry sundae provides a great finish. Never had a bad meal here and the servers are fantastic. All in all another great experience.
