After a wonderful meal and experience at Clay Pigeon a few months ago, we were really looking forward to returning. Quite a difference. Although the food was very good, the vibe was not the same. Perhaps Tuesday evenings are not a good time. The waiter was pleasant enough, but unlike the last time when all the staff made you feel special, this time one felt they were doing you a favor. Even though it was not busy, cocktails took a long time arriving and then we were informed that they were unable to make a caiparina. A request for some bread while awaiting the appetizers was largely ignored, being finally delivered with the appetizers. Even though we mentioned that we were celebrating two special occasions, nothing was done to acknowledge them beyond a candle on the desert. My two dishes - the mussels and the grilled octopus - were both delicious, although the salad with the octopus was ice cold, as if it had been just retrieved from the refrigerator.
Janelle was amazing! Want to talk about a waitress that can make your whole evening amazing from beginning to end, she was perfect. The food was also incredible. I started with the western sour and the meat and cheese board. We had the octopus, watermelon salad, bone marrow, and Mac n cheese. Everything was incredible. Thank you so much
Favorite in Fort Worth. Everything is amazing. Favorites are the bone marrow, beef tartar, and the ribeye - both the eye of ribeye and, my favorite, the spinalis - the most flavorful part of the ribeye. The spinalis is usually not on the menu. You have to ask. The seafood and scratchmade pastas are incredible too.
This place has great atmosphere a fantastic wait staff and their mixologist behind the bar is outstanding. This was the third time my wife and I had dined in with the first two experiences being worthy of 5 stars. The only reason for my 3 star rating this time around is that we felt the food was not up to par with what one would expect for fine dining. My wife ordered the duck on a bed of succotash while I had the pasta of the day which had lobster. When the food came out my pasta was steaming hot like it had come right out of the boiling pot while my wife’s duck was luke warm. She found the duck texture a bit spongy which disappointed her and I found the pasta to be slightly undercooked after it cooled down. We decided to double down and see if a desert could redeem the lackluster entrees but the peach pastry that we settled on turned out to be the biggest disappointment as it tasted store bought. Mind you non of those complaints warranted the food being sent back as it was still tasty and I didn’t want to embarrass the wife on her birthday however I know from previous experience that the Clay Pigeon is capable of preparing better food. Maybe it was just an off night or they were letting a new sous chef fly solo but in comparison with other fine dining establishments like Bonnell’s the kitchen really needs to step up their game.
Service was just fabulous, food was great. A little pricey for the menu selections but overall a good experience. probably would not be my first choice option again, but glad I was able to try it once.
I really enjoyed the food and service. It is a nice simple atmosphere. My only complaint is wine by the glass was pricey enough that I only wanted 1 when I would normally hAve 2.
Absolutely wonderful from start to finish. My wife and I were greeted with a glass of Champagne to celebrate our 22nd anniversary. We followed that up with the octopus and beef tartare appetizers. They were both on point, but the octopus was so tender and flavorful...truly exceptional. I had the duck and my wife enjoyed the pasta special. Once again, both were very well executed and presented. We polished it all off with a coffee and the hazelnut cake, yum! The server was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. The Clay Pigeon should be on your short list the next time you're in or near Fort Worth.
Shout out to David for great service, at the bar and the table. Did a great job.
Want something that’s not your everyday menu? Try this. Not cheap. But worth it.
We loved this place for our 5 year anniversary dinner. The decor and ambience felt like a vineyard restaurant in Napa (sans actual vineyard, of course). You step in from the neighborhood full of car lots and feel like you have been transported somewhere upscale.
We shared the beef tartare appetizer which was very good. My husband had the eye of ribeye and I had the scallops - again, both very good. Our favorite was the fried peach pie for dessert. Do it if you have the chance.
My only complaint is that our server seemed a little uninterested in making the experience great, only staying at our table only for the required parts, disappearing for a long amount of time, and being brief when he was there. It was just okay service to me, but wouldn't stop me from going back.
We went for our anniversary. We love to try different restaurants every year and have been to many in Fort Worth. The food was good, but nothing special. My husband had the salmon and I had halibut, both were good, but the meal is definitely overpriced. Eddie V's, Saint-Emilion and almost any other restaurant we have been to has made our anniversary special with dessert and though it was in our reservation, nothing was ever mentioned when our dessert came. The cake was the only item we had that I will say was just not good - it was dry and pretty tasteless. There is basically no ambiance, so if you are going for a romantic occasion, I would choose another restaurant.
Fresh, local seasonal ingredients expertly prepared by perhaps the best chef in Texas. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I honestly love this place.
It was great!
Great chef & great food.
Salads are here excellent.
One of the best we’ve been to...the flavors burst in our mouth like a magnificent sunrise😬
Very nice, fresh, not too heavy and very flavorful menu.
Food was incredible I had the new York strip with mushrooms and it was amazing my fiance had the duck and it melted in your mouth. The staff were very friendly and very helpful with wine selections. Will be going back!
Wonderful room with a pleasant welcoming ambience. Outstanding service, food and cocktails. One of the best meals and evenings that we have had in Fort Worth. Not a single mis-step. We will definitely return on a regular basis.
We were visiting Ft. Worth from the Bay Area. Despite the name and unassuming (from the outside) location next to a car dealership (ok, it’s the Porsche dealership), this restaurant offered approachable sophistication, artistry, and quality from start to finish. We were impressed, and will return as we visit our daughter over the coming years at TCU.
The best Fort Worth has to offer in creative use of fresh local ingredients, selection of wines to pair with the menu and knowledgeable service.
I came here for our anniversary and was not let down. The food was incredible and the service was impeccable.
It was our first time there and we will certainly be back. The food and service are exceptional. They are very accommodating with food allergies and dietary restrictions. The environment is welcoming and you don't feel rushed through your meal. Portion sizes are appropriate and beautifully presented.
Absolutely wonderful dining out experience. Great food, great service, great time.
We both had the Eye of Ribeye. Juicy, and cooked to perfection just like always!
Our favorite Fort Worth restaurant. First visit was after a trip to France. Felt like we had returned. Wine selection; is quite good; great food - not the usual fare. Menu changes from time to time. A very pleasant place for a relaxing meal. The food is far too good to gulp down. Grilled octopus salad is too good to describe. Duck in reduction sauce and fish of the day Alaskan halibut were outstanding. Went on a Wednesday night about 7:00 PM. The restaurant was not overly crowded and noise levels were relatively low. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good place to eat in Fort Worth (other than barbecue and Mexican food hangouts).
Everything was wonderful and would have been perfect if my husband could have had his favorite, the pork shank. PLEASE bring it back soon!
Another excellent meal with prompt, efficient service. We will be back soon.
Everything was absolutely wonderful. Best dining experience we have had in a long time.
Great food, ambience, and service! Everything was very flavorful, made from scratch, and delicious. Cocktails were wonderful also.
I love this place. Menu eclectic but not over the top and always beyond delicious. It is my “go to” to feel good yet special.
I love eating here, it's a bit out of the center but well worth it for the quality of food and service. Everyone we interacted with on Saturday night was pleasant and seemed to want us to enjoy ourselves. The food was, as always, delicious. Great job you guys!
Great service and drinks
This restaurant always delivers great food with service to match. We have never been disappointed with our experience at Clay Pigeon. Easily one of the best restaurants in DFW.
It was our 58th anniversary. We have eaten with you many times and always pleased. This time it was very displeasing, enough so that we will be more careful in selecting in the future,
We were seated right next to a very loud and rowdy group that was quite disturbing. I would say 25 - 30, but I could not see how many since we were curtained off by a gauze curtain, which closed off sight, but certainly not noise. A man behind the curtain evidently right behind me constantly poked and bumped me. The service as you can imagine was quite slow; it took 1 and 1/2 hours to be served our main course. The waitperson was kind enough to come 1/2 hr before to tell us the large, noisy party was just being served so we would have to wait longer. Of course the large party was done and gone long before we were. At this point the kind waitperson brought 2 complimentary desserts, each different, but not selected by us. Tasted like it was made and sat out for hours. Took 2 bites; not tasty. Very disappointing experience!
My date and I loved this place!! The food was amazing! Everything tasted so good and I want to go back and try more dishes. The service was excellent. So prompt and great recommendations. Ready to go back today!
I went on a Saturday for dinner. Had the bone marrow appetizer, CP burger, shrimp and grits, and pistachio cake for desert. All the food was perfectly cooked and delicious. The cocktails were of ample strength and executed professionally. The best old fashioned in the city.
Wonderful mother’s day brunch - every course was fabulous!
Mother’s Day brunch with my boys! Delicious food, perfect Bloody Mary and great service
Outstanding - as always at Clay Pigeon
