Clay Oven Palace Ratings and Reviews
Went with a first timer, staff went out of their way to make this a wonderful experience ! Even said they would bring different entree if newbie was not pleased with their choice of dinner. No worries here, all was delicious. One of our group, said it was better than indeblue. A must try! Fresh, hot and tasty food, has a very homemade feel. My go to Indian!
Intriqued by great reviews by the locals. Went with Open Table rez for 7 p.m. Only slot available! Place was empty secondary to local fair up the street causing road closure. Our go fortunate. Owner/waitress couldn't have been more accomodating. Nice selection of our favorites. Cooked perfectly. Generous portions. Just a nice meal. Will definitely be back
This was my first time here. A friend and I were looking for a spot in Collingswood to grab an affordable dinner before a show at The Scottish Rite Auditorium. We are frequent visitors to the neighborhood, so decided to try something new. We will be back! The food was delicious, we ate a ton for only $40 total, and the waitress suggested bringing the spicy sauce on the side so we could customize our heat level. Plus it's BYOB. Highly recommend.
My husband and I went here on a Saturday night with another couple. We shared the garlic naan and chicken tikka for apps, and they were both great. Our entrees came out super fast. We all liked our meals. I got the Chicken curry and it was so good. I have tried the other 2 good Indian restaurants in the area, Cross Culture and IndeBlue, and I would say Clay Oven has the best food.
Indian food fans, we had the pleasure of eating at Clay Oven Palace in Collingswood. Great reviews on Yelp were right. As big fans of Coriander, I Must say that Clay Oven is best in South Jersey. My wife and I had lamb dishes which were outstanding. The ambiance of the restaurant is comfortable and laid back, nothing fancy. The woman running the place ( assuming she is the owner) was delightful . The waitstaff was also very friendly and accommodating.
Reviewers were spot on about the service; everyone was very nice and very accommodating! I sooo wanted to agree about the food, but can't. Our meal was certainly good, but it wasn't the amazing deliciousness others described. Prefer the flavors of another local restaurant.
I am not a big spice person. I wasn't sure I would find Indian food palatable, but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Clay Oven. I was lucky to have a waitress who shares the same hesitancy for spices that I have, and she guided me as to what would be the best choices for someone like me, and she was 100% correct. I enjoyed my meal, the portion was awesome, and the quiet, cozy environment was perfect.
First time at the Clay Oven. the staff and owner were very friendly and attentive. The food can be ordered at various levels of heat so you don't end up with too fiery if you're not into that. The portions were large so take-home is a must. The lamb I had was very tender. We finished with just their Chai Tea, which was fragrant and flavorful. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
This place really makes delicious food. No matter what we have ordered here it has been great. The spices and flavors along with high quality meat make coming here a pleasure. They manage to make a mixed appetizer with some fried items that do not get soggy or taste like oil. The samosas are done very nicely with an excellent ratio of potato to breading. I enjoy spicy chicekn dishes here and my favorite is the Tikka Masala. They nail it every time. My boyfriend loves the lamb. This time he got the lam vindaloo and said it was delicious as always. The naan is a must have- probably worth ordering two. They are careful to make sure the spice level is to your liking and your water glass is always full. The owner and servers clearly value their customers and provide service that can't be beat from the moment you walk in until you leave satisfied and already planning your next visit back. Can't wait until I'm back here!
My husband and I went in for the first time a few months ago and had an amazingly delicious dinner with the most incredible service. The owner, a very nice woman, waited on us and was very flexible with our crazy dietary restrictions. They accommodated us with ease.
THEN, we went back this week for another wonderful dinner, and the owner recognized us and was again very sweet! The waiter, a young man, was super friendly and accommodating as well, and the food.....!!!!!!!!!! OMG THE FOOODDDD!!!! WAS SO FRICKEN DELICIOUS!!! Yum. We got the lamb vindaloo, the shrimp coconut curry dish, the lamb biryani, and a few other delightful dishes. Everything was spectacular.
Chose Valentine's night to be the first visit at this restaurant located only a few blocks from our house. We've been wanting to give it a try after hearing good reviews and were not disappointed! Service was quick and friendly and the food was excellent. Would certainly not hesitate to go back as often as we can!
There has yet to be a time when I am not fully satisfied when I leave. I always want to eat everything on my plate, but can't because there's so much (delicious!) food. We always end up taking it home and getting a second meal out of it. Our waitress was great too! She stayed on top of water and got our food to us fast! MUST GO!
This restaurant nails it every time we go. The food is exceptionally delicious and the service is always great. The mixed appetizer is a great way to start with chunks of chicken, veggie samosas and lightly battered veggies. I love the chicken tikka masala (extra spicy) and the naan is a must. Both plain and garlic naan are delicious. My boyfriend had the chicken vindaloo this time and it was great. Great Indian food depends on quality meat and this place doesn't disappoint. The service is always friendly and prompt. A must try!
After IndieBlue decided the afternoon of NYE they were going to 'revise' our reservation to a pre-fixed $60/per seating, we were lucky to find the Clay Oven. A wise choice it turned out to be. We ate way too much and still paid a 1/3 of what we would have at IndieBlue.
For my first time trying Indian food, I'd say it was a success. We had the sampler for an app and the fried veggies were my favorite. My husband enjoyed the chicken marinated in yogurt. We both had lamb entrees. He had curry which I liked better than my lamb dish. The entrees were great for sharing. My favorite thing was the garlic naan!!! I wish I had brought extra since my husband liked it as much as me.
Starters with crispy papad were delicious. I also recommend their veg beriyani, it's my best choice now (unique combination perfectly cooked basmati rice with saffron, cardomon, clove, caschews, lots of vegetables and spices).
Sweet gulabjamun was good.
For Excellent service 5 stars.
This is our new go to place! I can't get enough of the food. I don't like most american "indian" places. It all seems the same and fake. This place doesn't try to hard with decor and is super delicious food. It's authentic, and food you wont get at those other places. Plus the prices are INCREDIBLE! We've been here at least 10 times this year and have yet to have a bad meal or bad service. It's quick and fun! We have great conversations over a bottle of wine whenever we go and the staff is fun! If you haven't tried, it's a MUST!
This was our second visit and we enjoyed it even more than our first. The first time we went was great too, but the food was cooked even more to our taste this time and it was absolutely delicious. The service here is great. The owner clearly takes pride in the quality of the food and making sure that customers are happy. I think this is the best indian food around and we will be back for sure.
Can I go again already? It's our new favorite place to eat! Food is the best authentic Indian around. IndeBlue is more fusion, but not necessarily authentic. Plus it's way more expensive. I'd rather go here for the non-special occasions. Every time we get the bill we're amazed because we always get enough food for an extra 2 meals! It has wonderful flavors, and choice of how much kick you want. It's amazing!
I was excited to try this new Indian restaurant and I was impressed. The food was very good and very reasonably priced. Good Indian food depends on the quality of the meat and the meat here was very good. We had the mixed appetizer and it was a large portion of good food and the fried part was not greasy. I had the chicken tikka masala and he had the lamb vindaloo. Both were great the only complaint we had was that we asked for very spicy and the food was not close to spicy. It was very flavorful but we really like spicy. The naan bread was excellent. The service was superb and the restaurant was small but clean and comfortable. We will be back and next time we will ask for extra spicy!
I have been to the Clay Oven several times now, and each meal has been a delight! The food is authentic, the atmosphere simple, yet pleasant. The lunch buffet was particularly good and reasonably priced. Just a few blocks from downtown, it is easy to get to and a better value! A definite MUST TRY on your Collingswood Dining List!!!
Love this place! Amazing food crazy low prices! Wonderful service! You must try! The location isn't the best or in the main part of collingswood, but its worth it. And there is actual parking with is awesome compared to down town. Yum! We will be forever customers!
