Wow, great way to impress a first date or any occasion. Food is fantastic and the waitress outstanding and good sport with jokes keeping it fun. This was probably only my third time there and it's always memorable. Thanks and looking forward to the next time.
Intimate fireside dinner with soft live piano playing in the background from the lounge. A wonderful start to a great weekend with my bride of 48 years. Terrific cocktails and steamed muscles started our experience. We had seafood stuffed haddock and prime rib. Both exceeded expectations. This has been our special place for over 15 years. Thanks for another wonderful evening!
Our dinner at Clay Hill Farm was outstanding. We felt pampered from the moment we arrived until we left-- valet parking, gracious wait staff, quiet piano player and beautiful decor. My husband and I split a ceasar salad, then he had beef shank and I had duck. Both meals provided leftovers. The beef shank was delicious. My duck was fine except for the sweet potato hash which was cubes of mixed root vegetables, partially cooked and not seasoned. All in all, however, we had a wonderful evening and look forward to returning.
Beautiful Choice for New Year's Eve. The food was above average. Mussel appetizer was excellent! We were seated in front of the roaring fireplace, definitely the best seat in the house! The wait staff were wonderful, attentive and helpful. The bartender was the best! The only negative I would mention was the hostess. She seemed inexperienced and a bit flustered. Overall a wonderful and special night!
We had a most wonderful time❤️Our waitstaff was marvelous, fun, funny, professional and very attentive!!! We also met a group of wonderful people that have been celebrating New Year’s Eve at Clay Hill Farm for many years and we hope to come back next year to join them with celebrating New Year’s Eve 2018!!!
Cannot express strongly enough about the whole evening! It was perfect! Even at the very end of the night when my niece asked for a menu to put in her scrapbook, one was found and given to her with a smile❣️Thank you for our memories, and helping us start 2018 out on the right foot.
Was very disappointed. This was our 18th wedding anniversary. We requested the room with the fireplace, where we have come for the last few years, and we were NOT seated in that room, and were not recognized as celebrating our anniversary. We will go somewhere else next year.
We dined at Clay Hill Farm for Christmas Eve. The decor was festive and appropriate for the season and the live piano music added a lovely touch. All of the staff was friendly and in the holiday spirit. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The only down side was the backup for valet parking and no opportunity to self park.
The occasion was Dinner and Entertainment celebrating Christmas. The venue, Clay Hill Farm Restsurant serving up a five star menu including Apple Cider Carmelized Salmon with Brussels Sprouts and Roasted Potatoes and Lemon Crusted Broiled Haddock over Sautéed Spinach and Risotto - the choices at our table - absolutely to die for! The one man show “A Christmas Carol” lyrics and music by Nancy Day and starring Kirk Simpson local seasoned actor and quintessential storyteller captivated and engaged the audience. Kirk brought the audience back in time and into the story - a delightful journey.
For an enchanting evening comprised of haut- cuisine, personalized service, relaxed ambiance and Broadway quality entertainment, Clay Hill Farm in Cape Neddick is “the” place to be!
My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was a lovely experience. The food was fantastic, and the staff very friendly and accommodating. It was the perfect way to spend our anniversary evening. The live music was beautiful. All in all a wonderful evening thanks to CHF.
Disappointing entrees and indifferent service. Chairs on casters were too low and uncomfortable. Decor is dated though the setting in the woods is magical. The only vegetarian entree was barely edible. One of the beef entrees was quite overcooked. We won't be back.
We had a delightful time at Clay Hill Farm, celebrating our anniversary. We dined early, so there was very little crowd, and thus little noise. We had a great table by a window, attentive but not intrusive service and the food was excellent. We will be back.
We were visiting the local area for the weekend and made reservations at the Clay Hill Farm for dinner. It was also our 13th wedding anniversary.
We arrived and were seated promptly. The dining room looked very cozy - but the way the tables and seats were arranged was very awkward. All of the patrons were seated to be looking out the large windows - into the pitch black night. I guess in the summer months the view would be better.
The food was OK - nothing outstanding. From the time we were seated until we received the check only 45 minutes had gone by. I have had lunch at McDonalds that lasted longer.
The reviews of this place were super positive and it felt like it was fresh food focused. We love farm to table so we decided to check it out.
We thought it was odd upon arriving to have valet service, but now it makes so much more sense. The decor was nice, but dated. It felt like going to a formal restaurant from the 90s. As the night went on, we were the youngest people there by about nearly three decades...and we're in our mid 30's.
The food itself was good, but heavily relied on use of dairy. Bummer when much of the food was fresh and didn't require butter or cream to be delicious. There were a number of gluten free options available and the kitchen was willing to modify based on dietary restrictions. Still, portion sizes were unnecessarily large.
Service was painfully slow. Our waitress disappeared for almost 20 minutes just after we ordered one drink. She was at the hostess stand taking a call for almost 15 minutes, when they had a hostess! They said they worked in teams but no one else paid us any attention even though there were only 3 tables seated.
The fireplace was nice and the gentleman playing piano was lovely. Overall, it has potential, but fell short for us.
We went to Clay Hill Farm for my wife's birthday. The entire evening was perfect. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was great, and the food (I had roast duck and my wife had Cornish game hen) was excellent. It could not have been a nicer evening.
Although you confirmed my reservation when we got there the place was in darkness ! I went on line and got their number ,called and I believe they owner answered ! She said they had just left because there were no reservations, and asked if I had booked through open table ! She said she was sorry but she and the Chef went home ! So we were disappointed
This was our first time dining at Clay Hill after hearing years of recommendations so we were excited to finally eat there. We went with another couple who had also heard good reports about this place. It turned out to be a big disappointment and I doubt we'll go again. Not sure if it was just an off night in the kitchen but our dinners were barely edible. My husband ordered a Virgin Mary which was served in a smallish wine goblet(and cost $10!!). With no alcohol you would think it would be a more generous amount served in a tall tumbler. Then we shared an order of the house salad which consisted of baby spinach, dried cranberries, candied pecans and a vinegarette. It was split it for us but the portions were fairly small and rather unspectacular for the $$. The house smoked salmon was a very generous portion but extra smokey & was served with a very small portion of toasted baguette. The men ordered the braised beef shank . There was barely any meat on the bone and my husbands plate was literally covered with big hunks of fat. We have ordered this dish in other restaurants and do expect there to be some fat but this was unacceptable! Both entrees were in this condition. My girlfriend and I ordered the roasted vegetable risotto which sounded delicious but in reality had very little taste. It wasn't seasoned with any herbs or spices and no cheese added. We expected the roasted veggies to add flavor(brussel sprouts, onions, asparagus, sun dried tomatoes, etc) but it was very bland. Our portions were generous. The waitress was very nice and accommodating and offered to bring us another entree but we declined as we were ready to leave. I had mine packed up and the next day I added sautéed scallions, peppers and spinach with some spicy cheddar. It was delicious!
She also took both beef shank entrees off our bill which was the right thing to do. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience.
The thing that impressed us the most about Clay Hill Farm was the high quality of service - both of our servers were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good; we had the seafood stuffed haddock and the prime rib and the Autumn seasonal salad to start. I didn't really like the mixer which they used for my Vodka Collins but it was certainly drinkable!
We had a nice window table in the Fireside Room, which offered a gorgeous view of the grounds and the many bird species. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening.
This was a surreal experience. Booked reservations based on it being advertised as serving local garden foods, live music and the hip name. It reminded me of my parents country club. Lots of nice people waiting on you hand and foot. Disappointingly bland food. Yes there was live music, although I'd say the pianist was barely alive. The decor was of interest in a uniquely bizzarro 1950's country club kind of way. Truly all would have been fine if only the food wasn't so blah.
This is a subtle surprise -- an elegant, white tablecloth restaurant, 'way back from US1 on a bumpy two-lane country road. Gracious , welcome, Impeccable service, informal gardens on all sides; valet parking. I thought, If it weren't for the trees, I'd think I was dining in a Park Avenue Manhattan restaurant.
My girlfriend and I had a reservation for dinner at 7. We were having an after dinner drink at 8:20 when I think it was the bartender starting turning off the lights and asking us if we had an uber. She then asked what time was our ride coming. I would never go to this restaurant again and I'll make sure I let everyone I know about this rude treatment
