Claremont Lobby Lounge & Bar
Pleasant experience with a very attentive server in a lovely atmosphere but the food was not remarkable. Felt pre-made and had been refrigerated for awhile. At $65 a plate with a generous gratuity, this was very pricey for mediocre food.
As guests of the Claremont we decided to try their afternoon tea, and it was a total disappointment in every way. Even though there were only 3 other parties having tea, it took them exactly 33 minutes from when we were seated to ask us what type of tea we would like. So we sat there for a long while with no one attending to us. I ordered my tea and was told that they no longer have that tea and don't stock it (okay, then maybe take it off the menu?) I have a seafood allergy and confirmed that with both the host and the server. Our server very attentively said that is no issue that they will substitute any items with seafood. When the appetizer arrives lo and behold, salmon! Our server sets it down and walks away, I don't even have a chance to say anything. Eventually I flag him down and he brings some basic cut fruit in place of the salmon. Fruit is nice, but is it worth $65? When the tier finally comes, our server goes out of his way to explain that there's no fish/seafood in the scones or desserts... or in the sandwiches... which have caviar on them. Caviar is very much fish and seafood. So I couldn't eat those sandwiches. One of the substitute tea sandwiches was literally a large slab of avocado with no seasoning (not even salt or pepper) on a piece of dry toasted bread (Again is this actually worth $65?) and I had to ask the server for salt and pepper. On the menu it also said that they will charge an 18% automatic gratuity for parties of 6 or more. We were only a party of 2 and we were charged this automatic gratuity which was placed into our bill. It is immensely insulting to have to pay a 18% gratuity charge when it unlikely I would have wished to leave any gratuity at all for this experience, especially since it is NOT disclosed as a mandatory charge. If you continue to offer tea service I recommend that you have better accommodations for dietary restrictions, have an updated menu, and impart to your staff how to provide timely and efficient service.
Our afternoon tea was wonderful. All the food was great. The service was very attentive. Our Concierge Jeanie was amazing. You will enjoy the view and real sense of place at this historic venue.
Service was extremely slow, it took us over an hour to be served our food during high tea. We almost finished our tea and champagne before the food arrived! We were never offered more hot water or any refills on food, a standard service at most places for tea.
We had so much fun at the Claremont Tea. The food was delicious and our server, Shauna, went above and beyond to make it a memorable experience.
I appreciated our knowledgeable server- he really knew his teas!! Also, no one rushed us through our time at the Claremont. We were allowed to relax and visit without feeling pushed. Great place! We plan to make our 3-generation tea an annual event.
Very pricey. The server was nice and knowledgeable but could not adequately handle the amount of tables he had.
Tea 4: Good selection of Lot35 tea. I specifically tried out the Coala Punch tea. It is an herbal tea with Citric and pineapple flavor. My family tried the English breakfast, the Darjeeling, and the Earl Grey. All of the tea has some nice flowery fragrant.
Service and atmosphere 2: The service has lots of room for improvement. There was one "water" lady, one waitress for our area, one hostess, and one bar tender. Due to the lack of staff, it took forever to get service. To start with, we were missing a tea cup. It took us 15 minutes to flag down someone to get one. It took another 20 minutes to get hot water refill for the tea. For cream refill, the water lady cannot do it.
For the atmosphere, the view was great. We were seated by the window. However, the music (rock) was way too loud and not appropriate for afternoon tea . I had to ask the waitress to turn the volume down. But it was still too loud to hold a decent conversation with your family.
Food 3.5: The "appetizer" of diced salmon on radish was refreshing. The scone with a side of Kumquat jam was a first. The second row of savory bites were unique, and good tasting. This is where you get your money's worth: These bites are not the typical ones (cucumber sandwich, lox sandwich) that made you go "meh". The last row of sweets, however, are less appealing than other venues. It offered a tiny lemon eclair, a chocolate cup with berries, a small rectangular strawberry tart, and a panna cota topped with orange candied. The panna was the best.
For kids, it offerred a tiny hamburger slider, 2 rolled peanut butter banana sandwiches, macaroon, 2 bite size cakes. and the panna cota
Overall: The portion of food was just right for us. This is the first time we were able to finish all the food for an afternoon tea. We would come back again for the food. Hopefully next time they will have better service and softer music.
A lovely afternoon for a quiet belated Valentine's day date. The tea was so delicious, the food was beautiful and each bite delicious and fresh. Finished with some sweets and left full and very happy. We could sit there for hours
Had a very enjoyable Afternoon Tea there at the Claremont. Great setting to celebrate my wife's birthday.
Usually not a fan of afternoon tea, but the Claremont really exceeded my expectations. A comment from one of the ladies in our group was “this might be one of the best afternoon tea experiences I’ve ever had.” I still consider it a bit pricey at $65/pp for a “lunch” (it also goes up during the holidays) but definitely an affordable way to celebrate someone special who enjoys the finer things in life!
Our guest of honor had strict dietary restrictions which the chef had no problem accommodating. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable.
Bonus: Parking validation is also available for guests of afternoon tea, even if you are not a guest/member of the hotel.
We came here for the tea and it was beautiful! We didn't want to pay for parking so we parked on the street and walked up. This was a spur of the moment decision and we made extremely last minute reservations that the Claremont was able to accommodate.
I was a little annoyed that the tea didn't have descriptions under them so we had to have a server describe them and they were not happy to do so. You could tell that she was getting really annoyed... I wouldn't have asked if you had descriptions. We did end up with tea that we really liked... but I can't remember the names. Sorry.
The only sandwiches I didn't like were the pear and duck. But I loved the mushroom and caviar sandwiches. I didn't care for the sweets.
The view was spectacular and the room was nicely decorated. This is a 3.5 Star Review.
Our server was great--she even took a moment upon delivering our tea service to take a photo of our group. The room is spacious and comfortable, pretty, but not too fancy and the sweets and savories were all good; however, the big draw of afternoon tea at the Claremont is really the view. Even on a rainy day, it's lovely gazing out those great big windows while sipping tea!
The savory items were not as good as the desserts. I wish the scones we're warm, which is the case in most other high teas. I enjoyed the free glass of champagne at 5:30 - so yummy and a nice surprise! Our waitress was not very attentive which spoiled our experience. She was quick to tend to us when it came time to pay...
I went for afternoon tea. The tea was wonderful and they were accommodating with the food as I do have allergies. However the server had an attitude as if I was inconveniencing him, when I asked questions about the various type of tea. He did change my tea as I was not a fan. However after giving us the tea and the food he began to ignore our party. At one point I was out of water for the tea and regular water- another server had to help with assisting our party as our waiter was off talking to people. Overall the ambiance and decor was wonderful. However had the service been better it would have been better.
The view was amazing. We had the afternoon tea. They didn’t offer tea sandwiches, but instead they have very tasty pastries, fancy desserts. Tea selections were also very good. Our server James was very nice and attentive. The manager was also very thoughtful. The service really made a difference. My friend and I have not seen each other for 10 years so we had a great time catching up. We did not feel rush, and were able to enjoy our times there.
The afternoon tea was delightful. The selection of teas available was interesting and the finger foods were delicious. The cost was commensurate with the overall experience.
Celebrating a friend visiting from Texas. A wonderful High Tea service. Artes hosted us. He was lovely , Very attentive and suggested a wonderfully surprising tea. Thank you!!
When you feel like having a day full of indulging, this is a great place to start. It’s not cheap but worth it
My nieces and I enjoyed a fabulous Sunday afternoon tea here. There was a wonderful cellist, our hostess was charming (all the staff were pleasant and helpful). The sandwiches and sweets were delicious, as was the tea. The entire experience was terrific.
My friend and I were seated at our high tea reservation time (the first seating at 1:15). Once seated so one came by for a good 20-30 minutes...no water, offer of a drink, no hello. Finally a very nice but flustered waiter came by and said they were trying to print the menus as they were not prepared. When he brought them back, there were no tea options printed. He rushed around to get those , too. By this time it was 45 minutes since we were seated. I had to ask for a drink while we waited for our tea. Once the food and tea came, it was great food. But very disorganized. I sure hope they can improve this experience. It has great potential.
I booked a holiday tea well in advance. It was quite difficult to get the reservation. The lounge was not particularly festive for the holidays. We waited at the entrance looking for the host who was not to be found. Frankly, we weren’t sure we were in the right location; the lounge looked empty and we were one of only three tables that were present.
The server was quite friendly, though couldn’t remember which teapot he filled had our selected tea. He asked us to smell the pot to figure it out. So we sniffed and shuffled the pots around to sort it out. The selection of sandwiches were fine, the scones were not very good. They were so crumbly they didn’t hold together to spread the clotted cream.
All and all, it was fine, but probably not worth a return next year.
Nice setting, good food, fair service, ridiculously overpriced.
I brought my 4 1/2-year old granddaughter to afternoon tea with family friends. The staff was so warm, friendly and gracious to her. They took time out of their busy schedule to speak with her and treated her like a little princess! Wonderful friends scenic view and great food! What else could I ask for!
Love trying tea venues and this was a special treat on a Sunday afternoon. The view was beautiful and the tea bites delicious. There was not one tidbit we didn't like from the duck breast tea sandwich to the Jellied tea dessert square. Service was timely and friendly and we will return.
We made a reservation for high tea to this past weekend celebrate our very new engagement and were so disappointing by the lack of service and hospitality. At $65/person, we shouldn't have to get up to find water refills, ask several times for hot water refills and sugar/creamer for the tea, pull down the shades ourselves, track down the waiter to ask for the check, and then wait 20 minutes for it. I appreciate that they had good vegetarian alternatives, but this was a frustrating (and expensive!) first and last visit to the Claremont. Food was fine, but for the price, you're paying for the experience and it was sorely lacking.
Tea and treats were delicious. Ambiance was perfect for conversation. Staff could be more attentive. Otherwise, would have given 5 stars overall.
It was romantic afternoon tea time. but food was not much Valueable.
I can see many process and diffarent ingridences for one snack.( they served a lot of varaiety )
But in total, not much taste good, I respect it,but not worth for $60.....
We brought my husband to have high tea for Father's Day. It was lovely- the service was pleasant and attentive and the tea and food was wonderful. The muscovy duck sandwich was especially good, as was the assortment of tiny desserts. We were stuffed! The only note I'd add: It might be nice to offer two sizes of tea pot. I drink a lot of tea when I'm having high tea and I went through three of the tiny pots!
Thank you for a wonderful meal and a lovely experience.
like their afternoon tea more than four seasons sf, wil definitely ho again! ladies talk n such must be a good place
High Tea was definitely expensive and a bit too "fancy". Or perhaps, I expected something a little different. I think the bite size food was good but even high tea I think can be a bit less fancy and a bit more filling. All in all, though it was good, except the tea was both very limited in quantity and was not kept hot.
Excellent service, great ambience and wonderful high tea. Only thing missing were the cucumber sandwiches.
We enjoyed the ambience very much. And the scones, crumpets and other amuse-bouches were superb! I also appreciated the fact that our table was still there even though we were unavoidably late, due to circumstances beyond our control. Perhaps our being late caused a few service glitches - both my guest and I each specifically requested the champagne I ordered be served before the tea itself so we could enjoy our drinks beforehand. My guest also was worried that the tea would get too strong if served too soon, which indeed became the case when it was served right with the champagne. Also, there was no receptacle in which to place the tea bags to prevent the tea from getting too strong. Both problems can easily be solved. As I said, the amuse-bouches eventually served were delicious! And we were delighted with our visit.
need to improve the reception and service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Our waiter was great! Attentive but not overbearing. The newly renovated lobby is open and chic. Food was OK but not great but tea selection is awesome! Great for besties get together.
The service was spectacular and the view is amazing!
The afternoon tea was pretty good. The food was delicious and the service was attentive. The view is not the best since it was in the lobby and you mostly see the parking lot and the tennis courts.
The Claremont made my daughter's Sweet 16th Birthday Tea very special. What a wonderful place to celebrate! The entire experience was first rate.
I took my best friend to tea at the Claremont to celebrate her birthday. We had a very leisurely time and never felt rushed. The rooms are beautiful and elegant and the presentation of the food was spot-on. The food itself was very tasty and it wasn't too much food. When I saw the menu I thought it would be more than we could eat but the portions are tiny, tiny so we had no problem clearing the plates. The tea was excellent and we drank pot after pot. It was an overall fantastic experience albeit a once in a rare while treat for the price.
my new favorite place for afternoon tea. It is a first class afternoon tea.
