Claire's at the Depot Ratings and Reviews
This was my first experience here. The refurbished train station was well laid out, and elegant. Even though we were 10 minutes late, they were very accommodating. They even offered to take my coat, and refilled our water constantly. Though at first glance people were dressed for a day on the town, you saw t-shirts and jeans also.
The server wasn't the friendliest I've had. Though he knew it was our first time, he didn't make us feel that welcome. He didn't offer to explain anything on the menu, or recommend a favorite dish. Just impersonal. I asked for plain pancakes at first, because the description of the "Apple Crisp" ones confused me. It turned out to be small amounts of apple baked in and some apples on top. Very delicious. He looked at me, kinda like I offended him with my request. He didn't check on us much after we got our plates, but after the shift change, the second server was kind and attentive.
In the end, we all enjoyed our food. It was quiet and cozy. I'd come back again. For the price, you got a good sized portion.
All in all try this place, but check the menu first if your picky.
We had a fabulous lunch at Claire's at the Depot! We requested a nice table and they gave us a cozy table by the stone fireplace in the main DR. My Husband and I both ordered the butternut squash soup which was amazing ! We also both ordered the vegetable quiche which was equally good. I had a apple cider mimosa with cinamon sugar on the rim .. sooo good! The highlight though was the bourbon pecan bread pudding .. can't say enough! Perfect 10 overall !
Have gone to Claire's for many years - it has always been great food and service. And they have the best She Crab Soup I have ever had. Another favorite is the Yellow fin Ahi Tuna Wontons - it was not at all what I imagined when I first ordered it but I love Ahi Tuna so I tried it and it definitely did not disappoint.
A nice restaurant! Very good food, but chaotic and slow service on the Friday night we visited. We probably got there at a time when staff were short and things not going well. We waited more than an hour for our main course to arrive, and had to move inside (from the back patio) because over the long wait, we got a chill sitting outside. They brought me my soup twice! Still, we would go back, because the food and ambience make it worth taking the chance...
Lively atmosphere, great selection of food, cocktails and wine. Its set off the main strip with its own parking. The server was very friendly, didn't feel like we had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for anything while at the same time didn't feel rushed to get through dinner and leave.
I was very disappointed in the crabcakes. Don’t know what seasoning they used, but it overpowered the taste of the crab. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants, but I’m not so sure about that now. It was very noisy, and we had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to come to our table to take our drink order.
Our food was wonderful and the ambiance perfect and although the service was prompt and attentive... our waiter had a bit of an attitude because we were sharing everything... which we often do so that we can sample all courses. We always overtop because we were in the restaurant business and know how that is. Especially because we only drank iced tea and Pelligrino.
I recommend Claire's for any occasion. The atmosphere is lovely, the service excellent and food delicious. I've been once for dinner and once for brunch and give them both a 10. The carrot cake and bread pudding are heavenly.
The positive's, the food and drinks were good to outstanding. I had two old fashioned's which were very well done. We began the night with a coconut shrimp appetizer which was delicious and plentiful to include the small Thai cucumber salad which was an absolute surprise as we both found it delicious and a great compliment to the shrimp. Entree's included the salmon which my wife found lacking in flavor despite the pineapple mango salsa. Admittedly she is not a huge spinach fan but she found the spinach and the couscous sides unremarkable. I had the ribeye with tobacco onions and muddled red bliss potatoes. Unlike my wife's experience, I found it was cooked perfectly and I loved the tobacco onions combined with the potatoes. Steak was as good as any I have had at a dedicated steakhouse. Highly recommend. For dessert we did the bread pudding and chocolate cake. Both were extremely good with the bread pudding getting an extra thumbs up from me. Delicious. The not so positive, our server was less than attentive, prone to drive bys which consisted of the annoying habit of asking a question while walking by and not giving us a chance to respond. This happened multiple times throughout the course of the meal. I would prefer 1-2 thoughtful check ins throughout the dinner rather the than 5-6 walk bys. The restaurant was busy but not packed so I am not sure if it was a staffing issue or if the server could use a bit more service training?
Overall we had nice dinner and it was nice to drive away from DC to enjoy a nice night out. We will definitely give Claires at the Depot another visit..
We love going to Claire's. The food is excellent. However, this time, our waitress seemed to be moving us through. She was very efficient but we felt like she was rushing us to finish. Not sure if it was because we didn't order drinks or appetizers. We're not drinkers and wanted to save room for dessert. She was polite. Just didn't get a warm feeling from her. I felt more welcomed from the nice lady refilling our water/tea.
My husband and I really enjoy going to Claire’s at the Depot for any occasion. We have never had a bad meal or experience. The food is always fresh and full of flavor. Claire’s offers local produce, meats and wine. Would recommend Claire’s for a wonderful night out with someone special or friends.
Everything about the experience was excellent, starting with the warm welcome, then the She Crab soup (delicious!!!), the water glasses kept full, the timing of the courses, the menu items were diverse enough to address most any bent in fine dining. All four of us were quite pleased with the flavors and quantities.
First, I indicated the restaurant is quiet. However, the night we visited there was a fairly large group of people drinking and having a very loud conversation. The noise became unbearable between the time we had our cocktails and started our appetizer. Our server apologized for the noise and invited us to go out to the patio to enjoy the rest of our meal in peace. We accepted; she brought out our drinks, a new table setting, and a new basket of bread and rolls. That is exceptional service.
Now on to the food: Absolutely the best she crab soup we've ever had. Rich with lots of crab meat and sherry, our only regret was that we ordered a cup instead of a bowl! For our entree we both chose the double stuffed pork chop; stuffed with cornbread and chorizo stuffing, served with sweet potato mash and red cabbage. It was fantastic. We had to bring home leftovers, which we had for dinner the next night. Desserts sounded great, but no room.
I realized after we had been there a while that thirty years ago we had a housewarming party catered by a Claire in Warrenton. I asked our server about it, and she confirmed that it was the same Claire. She still does catering, I was told.
In all, dinner was great; a fine dining experience in a casual atmosphere. I can't rave enough about the food, and will recommend it to anyone who plans on going to Warrenton.
We met friends for lunch, and the day was perfect. We sat outside, and the tables were placed so we had a bit of privacy. The patio under the trees, with a water feature and beautiful landscaping, made it a delightful experience. The food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant -- we will definitely be back!
Great ambiance inside and out. Food was good, but I think a bit overpriced. Drinks were expensive which was irritating, especially for an $11 cosmopolitan, however it was VERY strong which helped me feel better about the cost, they do not skimp on the alcohol. My husband ordered coconut shrimp appetizer, as well as a cup of the she-crab soup and clam chowder, all very good. My husband ordered the prime rib which he said was tasty, but the au jus was just a splash on the plate instead of being as a side to dip the steak in. Maybe this is a more high class way of serving, we don't get out much. My ribeye was very tasty and perfectly cooked at medium rare. I would suggest to the restaurant that they replace their current steak knives as they were very dull and made even the most tender steak hard to cut. We ordered dessert which was actually underwhelming. The flourless chocolate cake was good, but not great, and the bread pudding with salted caramel sauce had a nice flavor, but wasn't rich and creamy like I was expecint. It had more of a dense cake texture. Good, not great. Overall we very much enjoyed our visit and I would recommend this restaurant. The inside is very pretty and you feel like it's an extra special place to eat. Plan on things being a tad over-priced, but I feel the overall experience makes it easier to cope with that.
I was really excited to try this place. I'd heard rave reviews from a few friends. It has a fabulous atmosphere. The decor is simple, yet refined, and amazingly it felt conducive for both quiet dates and larger gatherings of friends.
The food was OK. Maybe it was too elevated for me? My husband had the she-crab soup and double cut pork chops. I'd had a cup of tomato dill soup for starters and ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto and added chicken at the suggestion of the waitstaff. I had a glass of chardonnay with dinner. The tomato soup was pretty good. The dill was a little over-powering, and unexpected (not too bad though). My husband got the she-crab soup, and while it was tasty, he said there were a lot of shells in his soup. The hot rolls were delicious. The main courses were just... eh. My chicken was fairly bland, and the risotto was the embodiment of autumn in flavor. It was creamy, yet still al-dente, the squash was cooked well and while the ginger was a bit much for me (I think it was ginger), it wasnt bad.
That being said, I felt that the price didn't accurately reflect the meal I received. Don't get me wrong, the portions were generous! I ate my leftovers for lunch today. While I thought the service was impeccable, ultimately I'm there for a good meal. This fell a little flat for me.
