CK14 - The Crooked Knife at 14th Street Ratings and Reviews
Very cute restaurant with skylights above the tables . The service was fantastic. Unlimited mimosas and Bloody Mary's? Yes please! My omelet was overly browned which wasn't great. The fried mac and cheese was amazing although it was a small appetizer and not an entree like the menu leads you to believe. The Bloody Mary's could use some garnishes, because what is a Bloody Mary without a small appetizer on top?! Other than those few things, this is a quaint and fun place to have a boozy Sunday brunch.
Got a last minute late dinner reservation which was good. All the reviews were about the brunch - but we went there for dinner. Next time I think I would stick with drinks and the appetizers. Those were better than the main meals we ordered. Loved the Fig Toast and the Butternut Squash Soup (YUM for both!). We had a special Short rib pot pie and the signature hamburger. Those were OK - not great. I loved my drink (a muddled strawberry vodka & prosseco cocktail). My husband liked they had Blue Point toasted Lager (his favorite). There were other appetizers I would have rather had than the main meals. I would go back again. The ambiance was very cool!
Problematically loud. Service was gracious and the food was good, though if you are going to offer an "all you can drink" experience, 1. start the "timer" when someone actually gets to your table to take an order (this took nearly 20 minutes) and you likely need to check in enough to keep the glass from spending most of the time empty (wouldn't have taken much... and I understand the capacity some would have to overwhelm this, but 3 drinks in 3 hours seems a bit underwhelming). Did I mention how loud it was?
Great ambience. We went there for Sunday brunch ( they do have boozy brunch with unlimited mamosas for 2hrs) and had outside seating which is nice. Food is great and decent pricings but service was great (there's a manager of some sort that checks up on everyone) but they kept increasing the music noise up so we had to tell them a couple times to turn it down since we were right next to a speaker.
We booked brunch here for five on a Saturday morning. We were seated right away. The entire time, our mimosa carafe was never empty...it was constantly being replaced and refilled. There was a great variety of items to choose from on the menu---from the hangover burger and buttermilk chicken sandwich (both of which were well prepared and delicious) to the sausage benedict (also very good and inventive). The sides were also very good, and the portions were gracious.
We will be back. The two hours went fast!
Ordered scallops after being told braised short ribs were sold out. Scallops were over cooked. Regretted meal. Not even apple and berry crumble redeemed meal. Waitress served main meal and never returned, rest of meal server was another employee who did fine but could't make up for 30+ minutes of being unattended.
While my group really enjoyed the experience, I was annoyed that even though my friends and I showed up for our reservation on time I was marked as a no-show for the reservation, and the email was not sent until after we left (a little more than an hour after our reservation).
Had heard amazing things about this place, but was disappointed with the service. Wait staff and bartenders were much more interested in socializing with friends than providing good customer service. Food was decent, but took quite a while - appetizers came out with the main meal. Overall, the place has a cool vibe to it, but is really diminished by the lack of staff attention to service.
The Chicken sandwich and Omelet with Chorizo were the favorite of my brunch group. The waitress kept the bottomless mimosa's coming without us ever having to ask. This however was both good and bad. Great because the service was spot-on and we loved the fact that our glasses were never empty. Bad because we were not informed that each refill was being billed. We had all believed that because of the frequency and precision of the refills it was all part brunch price. Not once were we asked if we wanted a refill which might have prompted us to ask, or maybe the server to advise that refills were being charged. Other than that fact I do recommend this place for brunch.
CK14 is one of the best boozy brunches I've been to in the city. The food is absolutely delicious (though a little spicy), the drinks are strong, and the service is prompt. Whenever a pitcher of mimosas or water ran out, the waitress made sure to refill it promptly, despite the busy rush of Pride. My only grievance is that we specified to sit outside and chose the restaurant based on the patio seating and they told us they were not able to accommodate us, but other than that, a wonderful brunch experience.
The location and ambiance was great but the service was beyond unacceptable. I don't think they were even understaffed, but every time we had the chance to flag a waitress (since they never checked up on us), we would be greeted with major attitude. There were other tables around us who were obviously feeling the same frustrations, even saw another table finding the menus themselves since they were not given one in the first place. Slow service could've been overlooked if they didn't have so much attitude, I don't know if ALL the waitresses were having a bad day, but don't bring it to work. Had high hopes for this place but was very disappointed. Will never return.
The initial experience was not very welcoming. We were early for our reservation, but had to ask to be allowed inside. Another party came in after us and was allowed in and seated ahead of us. The waitress was not very friendly (nor rude)...just not very responsive as she approached the table to take my order. My food was delicious. The manager was responsive to one of my friend's FB post regarding the service, apologizing, but saying she's never received feedback like that before (a bit off-putting in response to a grievance).
An adorable little hot spot with thoughtfully prepared farm to table delights. The broccoli cheese soup was served in a big bowl with delicious Irish soda bread. Creamy and delicious, perfectly seasoned. The avocado toast was divine (3) one topped with red cabbage, one with homemade sundried tomatoes, and one with a perfectly poached egg. The roast chicken sandwich was excellent, with stuffing for added flavor. The fried chicken sandwich was good. Had a sweet heat going on. Pigs in blanket and mac n' cheese were also good. We will be back in July for more of this goodness!!!!
