Quiet meal, excellent food, table next to fire place. Great evening!
I'm a repeat customer. I always enjoy going to CJs when up at Mammoth.
Nicely appointed, varied menu, friendly service and reasonable prices.
Just not a place I would go back to. Sorry.
Best dining experience in a while. We loved this place. The server was awesome. The food was super high quality but not gourmet. It felt like real food cooked at home. Lots of yummy choices to pick from. They accommodated the 3 kids under 6 well. Mini mason jars with lids. All washable reusable stuff! I enjoyed the red sangria. And although the beer selection was lacking because they’d kicked three kegs the night before, my hubby was able to find a selection he liked too. I loved the ratatouille. The fish was great. The Mac and cheese was awesome. Great zucchini. And the baked potatoes seemed baked not microwaved like so many places do it. Did I mention the home made apple sauce? But really, the service! Definitely coming back here next trip.
Went to dinner with 2 adults and 2 young teens using the Open Table App. I rely on Open Table to provide quality choices, this was not one of them. Outdated decor; broken items here and there (front door and booths); understaffed; several food items from menu not available; steak undercooked (ordered medium and it was very, very raw in center). We would most likely not return.
Exceptionally slow service (from the kitchen - the waiters were hustling). No acknowledgement from the restaurant. Very frustrating. Food was solid, but not great. Great chicken sandwich and burger. Mediocre wedge and poor tasting and over breaded fish and chips.
We were visiting Mammoth to enjoy a few days of skiing.
We really enjoyed our dinner with a big group of friends and kids. The food was very tasty.
The restaurant was very busy with holiday skiers, and they were understaffed that night, but every one was really friendly. We weren’t in a hurry, plus it’s vacation time, and once we got seated, our drinks and dinner came promptly and everything was really delicious.
We were the last group to leave, we never felt rushed as we relaxed and enjoyed a couple more drinks.
Made reservation through Open Table, received conformation.
Go to restaurant at reserved time, it was closed.
Get you act together Open Table!
Had dinner here last night, we enjoyed it. Good home cooking. Super nice people, we would come back. This place has so much potential but desperately needs a few tweaks to enhance the ambiance.
3 tips to the owners:
1- Dim the lights please!!
2 -Add candles and drop some white linens on the tables
3- Live music- Acoustic guitar or piano would have been a nice touch on a weekend. (Especially on a holiday like NYE)
New Years Eve with the family.
Nice casual place with good food. Staff seemed overwhelmed with the New Years crowd
Great, friendly service & perfect for families with kids. The main fare is burgers but I ordered a house salad with fish as an add-on & the fish was perfectly cooked & seasoned & seemed very fresh. Comfortable & cozy. I think this would be a very reliable spot that delivers exactly what it says it will every time.
Busiest week in Mammoth so had to wait a little bit even with reservation. But the staff was great and comped us a round of drinks. Food was delicious. Will be back.
Quality of food, simple but good and friendly service make CJ's a favorite.
Very loud to be with kids...simple pep pizza took over an hour. Food was good, but tough place to eat a family dinner.
Delicious food, friendly service, reasonable prices. They were very busy (Christmas Eve dinner) but everything went smoothly and we never felt rushed. We enjoyed the evening immensely.
Like many Mammoth restaurants trying to make a go, this place is dependent on the wait staff. While friendly, when we went they were understaffed and slow. The food was OK but when your paying $16 for a burger, you want it to be outstanding. I wasn't overly impressed but the food is decent and its a good location.
I was a bit pricey but great and friendly service, food was good. We went late evening, nice and quiet.
Delicious burgers and homemade Mac n cheese. We had a relaxing meal of comfort food next to a cozy fireplace.
A friend recommended CJ's during our vacation to Mammoth. We took the open air bus from village directly to CJ's, very easy. Food was outstanding, as well as service. We had pretzel's bites which were excellent. My husband enjoyed burger and I enjoyed Ratatouille. Perfect place for meat eaters and non-meat eaters. AND home made ice cream was to die for!! We had cookies and cream which was delicious. It was so nice to leave the expensive restaurants in the village to dine at CJ's. We will return and recommend to our friends.
There wasn't enough staff so service was slow. Several groups left because they were tired of waiting to be seated.
The evening experience was excellent the food was excellent especially the Mediterranean shrimp . Wine is a little pricey , compared to the rest of the restaurants in town . Our niece had a a bacon cheeseburger and had hair on the bacon which turned her off I noticed a gentleman in the kitchen with a very long black greasy hair maybe that's where came from ???
When this place opened, it was strong. Good food made with care. Over the last few years it has consistently gone down hill. I hope they get back.
As locals we have few good choices. CJ's never lets us down. Family owned and always delicious. 5 stars for sure! Excellent deserts, fried donuts are to die for omg.
Hostess was not very friendly and did not manage the reservation very well. Server was ok and food was mediocre.
The hostess and wait staff are very friendly. The food was horrible. I ordered grilled chicken barbecue and a baked potato and a glass of red sangria.. Date ordered Caesar salad with chicken. The drink had a huge amount of sweet syrup at the bottom making it too sweet to drink. Date asked if the Caesar salad had a lot of dressing, didn't want it swimming with dressing. Wait staff said no the dressing wasn't swimming on salad. His came dripping with dressing which made all the lettuce completely wilted. Chicken in salad was chopped in teeny tiny cubes and there wasn't much of it. He sent back the salad. Meanwhile, I began to put butter on potato and it wouldn't melt because the potato was tepid and old. Forgot the sour cream too. They brought the same potato out instead of giving me a new one. . The chicken was so dry I could barely swallow it. The tiny drizzle of barbecue sauce was ridiculous. I should have ordered more barbecue sauce but by this time I was done with this place. This dinner was expensive! $22 for a piece of dry chicken and a cold potato.
Made a reservation through OpenTable for May 2, 2017.
One minor problem: Arrived at the restaurant at confirmed time to discover that THE RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED!
Ignore my ratings above since I can't rate a non-event - wouldn't let me leave a comment without completing rating section.
We had a great meal. The chicken pot pie was excellent!!!
Our first visit to CJ's Grill for Easter Dinner in Mammoth after a day of skiing.
The person who greeted us and seated us was also our waitress.
She did a marvelous job taking care of us despite being on her own, a great employee!
The food was very good, my wife and I had steaks and salads my son had the fish & chips.
Overall it was a very good experience and we would definitely dine at CJ's again.
There were only two waiters in the restaurant and no front desk person. We waited longer than expected to be seated because the waiters were busy and they were trying to run the front desk as well. I had to go to the waiter to take our order because he was too busy attending to all the other tables. After that he tried his best. The burgers were good but all around it's an average quality food. When we finished we passed by 4 open tables and there were about 8-10 people standing to be seated with no frontdesk person attending to them. A restaurant should always have a hostess to attend to its customers and not expecting the waiters to run the whole place. It is not fair to both waiters and customers.
Several years ago, this was ABSOLUTELY my favorite Mammoth place to eat. In its current iteration, the food seems to have lost some of its sparkle. My Mahi Mahi was a bit over cooked and my son's crab cakes were over charred. That said, everything was still quite tasty and the single waiter was performing admirably in serving the entire restaurant. I miss the surprising perfection that was CJ's, but it is still worth an occasional meal.
We went to CJs for dinner. The service was very good and the server was quite nice. The iceburg lettuce with sirloin was great. They have great burgers too. We had 7 kids with us and the kids loved the food. This restaurant seems more suited to a lunch crowd, as it does not have the dinner ambiance. If you have kids then it is good for dinner. Not sure for an adult only dinner.
very friendly and warm restaurant with truly home cooked food served in an easy going atmosphere. the restaurat suffered a fire in February but is open and cleaned up now. the staff and chef are very friendly, helpful and make the place fun to visit.
The owner was working the tables ALL alone as his staff was stuck working on the mountain, which he said happens from time to time. We were on vacation so in no rush! He was serving the tables with a smile and very pleasant!!
The food was delicious!! My kids had the bison burger and my husband and I had the chicken pot pie! I rarely finish a meal....but I scrapped the bowl clean!!!
We will definitely return next time we ski!! Thank you for the great service and wonderful food!!
What a great find! Everything was homemade and fantastic! The Chicken Pot Pie was fabulous, and the crust was light as air. Do not miss the donut dessert - it's homemade and worth every delicious calorie.
Food over cooked. Over priced. No ambience. Service very good.
We have eaten at CJ's before, and had a pleasant dinner on a Tuesday night. It was strange though to walk into a completely empty restaurant at 6:45. During our dinner 3 other parties eventually came in. Minor complaint: because the kitchen had nothing else to work on our food came out so fast dinner could have been over in 30 minutes (we hung out and stretched to 90 anyway). We had the Battle Burger (with veggie burger) -- in past visits this was amazing, this time pretty mediocre. Very good tomato soup. Prices are fair. If you want a comfortable welcoming place with a broad menu after skiing, CJ's is fine.
Amazing food love the chicken pot pie
