Not what I was expecting from an Italian restaurant, my food was ok. My families salmone was good. Our waiter was great, but the receptionist was not. He claimed my reservation was not valid. When I showed him my reservation with the address to that location he said, “go to the one at banker hills” I told him it specifically read to that location. He wanted us to do an hour wait. Finally he went to go ask and said, “okay, we do have you.” I don’t think I will be back.
Amazing vegan menu, great wine, brilliant service. Loved it!
Great service! Food was carefully prepared. Very fresh and flavorful!
Love this place! Great for dinner or for drinks/apps.
amazing place, delicious vegan options, super nice people!
Food was Mediocre and service poor. Will not go again.
The food was good not great. Service was scattered and not attentive. Our first two wine choices were unavailable. Zucchini blossom starter was excellent.
Food was bland, restaurant needed a good sweep. Went to the bathroom and it also needed a cleaning.
Food didn't take too long to be served but was just warm and small portioned.
Great service and amazing vibes!! We loved the vegan options and wine list.
After a flavorful appetizer of heirloom tomato soup and stuffed eggplant, we were disappointed by the main courses. The meat in the ragu was over-cooked and rubbery, and the pasta was overdone. The vegan spinach ravioli were way too sweet.
The attendant who sat us was unfriendly and not accommodating 6/3 at 5 pm for the record.
They had 1 waiter for all 20 of indoor tables! Terribly slow service. Didn’t tip. 😞
This is always the first place we reserve when in San Diego. Excellent pasta dishes that melt in your mouth. Wonderful service.
Can't say enough about the wonderful, fresh, authentic Italian dishes. A must restaurant to visit when in town.
i think the waiter we had is the loml. also the food was good love the vegan options 💕💕
Good classic Italian with great Vegan options. I prefer the non-vegan, but tried my friends and I would actually order the Vegan Lasagna next time over non-vegan. Go figure.
Loved it. Good authentic food and right atmosphere. Was happy to talk with some fellow native Italians.
We really wanted to like Civico 1845 but this restaurant was such a disappointment. The good: home made pasta, fresh (but low grade)ingredients. The bad: spotty service, rushed preparation (undrained pasta stuck in a clump at the bottom?!) makes pasta bland and watery, no layering of flavor, just simple basic tomato sauce with no flair or love. The worst: They pressure you to tip, the server brings the computer with 3 choices and stares at you while you choose, 25%,20% or 18%. That’s it! Not cool! Also worst, the food runner literally forced our food onto the table, no where near the middle without looking at us and ran! before I could ask for a spoon. The server also forgot to put our drinks order in so we had to wait but stuff happens I guess. I would suggest a better place as many exist that are better in SD.
Everyone loved the dishes that our waiter (Marcello) recommended. It was fun sitting outside on the street. Reminded my wife and I of Italy. We would definitely go back!
Civico is always a wonderful experience. It is consistently an excellent meal with friendly service. One of the best restaurants in Little Italy!
Everything we had was delicious including the vegan gnocchi and tiramisu.
Overall disappointed with the experience. Very poor service.
Our visit at Civico was great! The service was very friendly and the food was delicious. It was very busy for the holiday weekend, but we had a fantastic time overall. The drinks were also amazing. Would 100% recommend everything that we ordered:
Negroni Al Rabarbaro
Linguine Alla Pescatora
We have dined here many times over the years but this visit was disappointing. They must of been incredibly short staffed because we were there almost 2 1/2 hours and it wasn't because be wanted to be! Everything from getting water, bread, wine, entrees and the check took at least 15 minutes. Our waiter was very nice and clearly doing his best but he paid far more attention to other tables and that was frustrating. Food was warm, not hot and even the drink my friend had-the ice was melted it must of stayed on the bar so long waiting to be sent to a table. And the sad thing was we had a friend in town and I raved about the restaurant and he footed the bill.
Found this place from a blog post had high hopes. It was disappointing. Service was excellent, but we will not be back. The pasta was terrible.
Have been to many little Italy restaurants in San Diego but this was one of the best! Ordered Calamari and Caesar salad both which were very good although, was expecting it to be a little better from such a highly rated restaurant. I got the gargenllli pasta with sausage and mushrooms and my fiancé got the pasta with prawns. The prawn dish was delicious and the pasta was fresh! My pasta was delicious as well although, the sauce was a bit rich for my taste. Overall, would recommend! :)
Food was great. Location was ideal. Gets a little busy and crowded, both in the restaurant and outside which I’m sure why service was slow. Took a long time to be greeted by our server, get drinks, order additional food. The homemade bread and pesto olive oil dip is delicious. Cocktails are excellent. The zucchini blossoms are good, and I’m not sure that they need the side of marinara. The ribeye and arugula were great. Pappardelle with short rib ragu was delicious as anticipated. Croquette was a bit I’ve cooked. Cannoli was excellent: the filling, the shell were perfect. The chocolate mouse was wonderful.
Great food and reasonably priced! My husband and I were happy with our dishes. It’s a must try in the area to add to your list!
Really really loud! The food was good but not enough options.
Great vegan options. Great food and ambience is fun and easy. Strongly recommend.
Great food, great service table was ready at reservation time.
Service and food was fantastic, however the portions were far too small for the price. Overall a nice place.
Todo muy agradable
Being Vegan, I cannot thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to fine dine with a wonderful Vegan menu. It is extremely rare to be able to actually Fine Dine in San Diego if one is Vegan. Bless you for having this awareness and also understanding the true demand for such. If you could add a couple bomb Vegan desserts I would come probably once a week.
My favorite place in Little Italy! House made pasta is just delicious. With the current Covid restrictions the dining is outside in the piazza and I hope that never changes. Lots of room without people walking right past you or cars flying by. Very relaxing and enjoyable experience. The salad was so fresh as well as the pasta. I highly recommend this place
Honestly did not know what to expect coming here. After struggling to find parking I was relieved to come inside the restaurant and be seated right away. The waitress came right away with water and gave us ample time to look at the menu. They didn’t have a kids menu available to look at, but the waitress Charle was able to tell us what the kids options were. We ordered the Fritto de Mari appetizer that came with a side of bread (which if you’re able to always ask for extra! It’s that good) and my son really enjoyed the shrimp. The calamari was light and had great flavor 10/10 recommend for a light appetizer! Our main courses were great as well! We had the Garganelli Zafferano and this dish was perfect! The pasta was fresh (as all of their pasta is freshly made), I substituted the sausage for chicken and the chicken was perfectly seasoned, the sauce and mushrooms were fantastic. All flavors combined for a delicious party in my mouth. They have vegan options that my mom enjoyed as well! She ordered the Vegan Gnocchi Salsiccia E Broccoli and the gnocchi had the perfect seasoning ratio. It was salty and creamy , the broccoli was cooked just as she liked it. Not too crunchy and not too soft! And you couldn’t even tell the sausage was vegan. My son had spaghetti in a tomato sauce and let’s just say for the worlds pickiest eater to approve of this dish really meant something to us! The tomato sauce had all of the Italian herbs in it with hints of salt and pepper and of course the pasta was made fresh and cooked al dente. He likes the shrimp so much that we asked if it were possible to have it on the side for him, to which the kitchen obliged making us all happy customers. We couldn’t decide on just one thing for dessert so we had a tiramisu, cannoli, vegan cannoli and a chocolate mousse that definitely satisfied our sugar teeth! The cannoli’s were filled with this sweet cream that had pistachios for extra crunch. If you’re looking for a southern Italian place, this is it!
This restaurant was the most authentic Italian experience that my wife and I have had since our trip to Italy a few years ago. The food was outstanding and the service was amazing. The server cared that we were happy with our experience. This place is going to be our spot for special occasions and whenever we need some really good Italian food.
Always love the food. Service during the last visit was abysmal.
We loved our food. We had both vegans and non-vegans in our party and all were happy. Our waiter was also wonderful! We will definitely be going back.
Service and quality of the food was excellent. Will definitely be back. Seafood was bomb.. Vegan lasagna bomb.
The vibe at Civico has changed, maybe it depends on the time of the week but my last visit had better music, it felt more authentic with my italian server now it is more hip with younger american staff. Still a great spot but it definitely has changed!
