Authentic Italian- the best of San Diego! Hands down the greatest eggplant (appetizer or main) dishes I have ever had. Never disappoints!
Service was the worst we've had in many times eating there. Impolite and inattentive. 3 of 4 plates were out for nearly 10 minutes before our last guest was served. My plated pasta was overcooked and my brother's already getting cold. I hope you fix these before opening your new location. Otherwise your reputation won't sustain you.
We arrived in Little Italy on a crazy-busy Sunday at noon. Outside, bustling tourists and St. Paddy's Day drinkers, inside Civico 1845, peace, tranquillity, wine, smiling, friendly service, delicious handmade pasta dishes. We were happy. I look forward to returning!
Fantastic food. Great atmosphere. The pasta was cooked perfectly. I was getting upset at how good it was. Our waitress was professional but also friendly. Loved it.
Great food, had lunch on the patio. Service was friendly, bread and dip delicious, heirloom salad perfect, muscles broth killer, sea bass special outstanding, rest of menu hard to make a mistake. Highly recommended! Marcelo our waiter a joy!
Vegan menu is a gem, we ordered vegan calamari and lasagna and were amazed by how good they are. Service is outstanding, it can be quite noisy if you prefer a quieter dining environment.
The best Italian restaurant here in San Diego for sure.
Great food, great service, fairly noisy
The gnocchi is incredible and the service fast and efficient. Terrific value. I would strongly recommend Civico 1845.
So great! Thanks for supporting veganism!!
Delicious food, friendly staff, one of my favorites in San Diego
Civico’s vegan menu is FANTASTIC. My girlfriend is vegan and it’s nearly impossible to find vegan friendly Italian food. I can’t express how good the food was or how excited my gf is to come back. Civico did a fantastic job and will continue to be my go to restaurant in little Italy. I had the gnocchi with butternut squash and shrimp which was AMAZING
Excellent food and an extensive vegan menu with lots of yummy options. Love the decor and design details, the authenticity of the food and all of the high-quality ingredients. Would highly recommend for all occasions!
The semolina bread served with their homemade pesto sauce for dipping is the perfect bite to awaken your appetite. We always have to get the Fiori di Zucchine (fried zucchini blossoms) as an appetizer everytime we go; they are absolutely perfect! The blossoms are generously stuffed with ricotta cheese and minced sopressata sausage (dried cured sausage) then dipped in a light tempura-like batter and deep fried to golden brown and delicious - definitely not greasy! The calamari fritti is also a wonderful appetizer. Ask about their specials, but this time I had the Pennette Melanzane. Penne pasta with small cubes of amazingly sweet sauted eggplant, in a basil tomato sauce, covered with a lightly smoked and melty mozzarella. OMG - if I closed my eyes I would have sworn I was in my Nonna's kitchen! Don't bother with the Zeppoli - they aren't made to order. But their Cannoli are fabulous! They fill them just before serving so the the shells are nice and crisp. Go to Civico 1845, you definitely won't be disappointed!
Excellent meal. Our waiter was great.
Authentic Italian food Really enjoyed the wine recommendations! The pasta, cheese, bread was delicious! The food was outstanding! I recommend this place highly!
great service, seated us quick, respected the time reservation. great wine list. excellent food. FUN
Always a great place to eat! True Italian eatery. Thank You!
Food is good and has a special menu for our vegan friends. Parking is HELL!
My wife and I had spoken previously with staff at the restaurant who assured us that the restaurant can provide gluten free dishes that are suitable for someone with Celiac disease. When we arrived and reviewed the menu, there were separate symbols for items that could be made gluten free and for items that are Celiac safe. There wasn't a single item that was noted as Celiac safe on the menu. When we asked our waiter about it, they said that the restaurant wasn't suited for someone with Celiac and recommended that we note eat here.
Great food and awesome service, from hostess to bartender to waitstaff. Thanks for doing what you're doing for people who are plant- based.
Vegan menu is good but taste a little underwhelming. Gnocchi was good. Fettuccine was bland. “Calamari” was not good. Oyster mushroom sliced into such tiny slivers all you can taste is deep fried batter.
Love this place! Vegan friendly :) Great place for my friends birthday. She had a really nice time.
Delicious vegan Italian food. Great for a date! Service is lovely.
Fantastic ambiance and delicious, filling vegan food!
The noise was a little loud, but given it was Valentines Day the atmosphere was very delightful
Basically, Civico is the ONLY fancy/romantic restaurant for two vegans on Valentine’s Day in San Diego. Thanks for existing and being great!
Made a reservation for two and specified that we wanted inside when I made it. We get there about ten minutes early to check in, and are told that we can sit outside or at the bar. Mind you, it’s raining and the patio floor is basically flooding. We also didn’t want to sit at the bar. We’re then told to go wait at the bar, and as we sat to wait, someone I’m assuming is a manager, then comes up to us and says they have someone coming to sit there. I’m sure my face immediately expressed my dissatisfaction because he then apologized and said we could wait there. Finally, we’re seated waiting for our server for about ten minutes. He finally acknowledges us, only to say he’ll be back. He made his rounds for a second time, and when he finally came back, he seemed uninterested in serving us. We placed our order and waited 30 minutes for our appetizer. We didn’t say anything because we understand sometimes the kitchen can get a little backed up. However, I did get upset when a couple who ordered 40 minutes after us, and a party of 10 who ordered after them, all got their food. After waiting an 1 hour and 20 minutes, we finally got our entrees. He dropped them off personally saying “sorry were busy”, which doesn’t explain how people who ordered almost an hour after were eating before us. He never bothered to check back on us during the meal, so we sat there for a while waiting on the check as well. The food was good, but our valentines experience was overall ruined.
Loved the service and food. The atmosphere got a bit loud.
We would recommend Civico to anyone who loves Italian food. Great Burrata Caprese Salad. Our entrees were excellent, both recommended to us by a bus boy. The noise level was a bit loud, tables are really packed in there. Our waiter was good but not very personable. Just did his job. The person who we think was the owner and served our meals was delightful. We would definitely go back and try some other things on the menu that looked delicious... the charcuterie plate for one.
I have dined at this restaurant 4 times now and have had a generally great time every time, I even had my birthday lunch here before. This past time, I had arrived time for my reservation at 1930, I had just walked quite a distance due to there being no parking. I checked in and explained that my friend would be about 3 minutes since he had just parked and was walking over. I asked if I could please have my table now since, honestly, I've had a long day and just wanted to sit down to order myself a drink and get an appetizer going. They flat out refused to do so. There were open tables still, the person who came up to the hostess stand after me had no reservation and got seated immediately. I was told that the whole party had to be present to seat me. I did not think that it was unreasonable to ask to sit at the table that I had reserved instead of being obliged to stand there on the sidewalk and wait outside in the cold. The hostess almost seemed to want to seat me but this other man (possibly manager) wouldn't budge. I thought that this was very rude and in poor taste.
After my friend arrived and we sat down, it took some time to get service. Our waitress was very kind, maybe not the most attentive since my water had been empty for a while before being offered a refill, but then again, she was busy. The food was good, but the 2 vegan pasta dishes we ordered did not taste out of the ordinary. Their dessert was delicious. I have recommended this restaurant to several people in the past because I found it to be one of the best places offering vegan options in Little Italy, but this most recent visit has left a sour taste in my mouth and I do not foresee myself ever returning or recommending this restaurant in the future.
but parking in the area is limited and overpriced.
Service excellent.... bartender very informative!!! Delicious food. Only drawback is the noise level.
The three dishes we had family style were all excellent. Zucchini blossoms, calamari and the beef pasta.
I like the vegan menu especially when bringing guests who may prefer these options. The atmosphere is so intimate a nice change from so many of the large spaces in Little Italy.
Il cibo era ottimo! The food was excellent. Our server was above and beyond one of the best. She helped with suggestions and was awesome!
What do you do on a rainy night in San Diego? Head to Civico 1845 for authentic Italian cuisine. Although I am no expert, the food at this quaint restaurant in the heart of Little Italy is superb. Since it was raining we sat inside at the window but still had a view of the hustle and bustle of the area even in the rain. My partner started with the house salad while I enjoyed the vegan minestrone soup. Both delicious. Our entrees excelled in flavor! The classic ravioli with a spinach and ricotta filling with a creamy red sauce was delicate yet packed a punch of flavor in the filling. My partner chose the Ricotta Infused Pasta with homemade Fennel Sausage, Wild Mushroom, Calabrian N'Duja, and Bell Peppers in a Parmigiano Sauce. The sausage hit the mark in this pasta dish. We couldn't resist the desserts. The Tiramisu and Pannacotta Amarena were flavorful and a perfect finish to our evening. This is a great choice for vegans as they do have a full vegan menu to choose from!
Everyone was great. Fist timers but not last time we will be there.
With so many choices to pick from in Little Italy, we played it right with choosing Civico. Spending a week in SD, we had been trying different restaurants in different neighborhoods. Civico's menu and reviews sounded right; we're glad we made the decision. Perfectly light and crispy calamari, a wonderful pappardelle pasta with short rib ragu, a delicious linguini with seafood---all of our selections were perfect--felt we were in Italy. The foccacia with dipping oil was sensational. Our waiter Domenico was a true professional --engaging, personable, with a great sense of humor. We ended up ordering his recommendations and they were spot on. Veronica, his assistant, was so friendly and always on hand to pour more water and provide clean utensils. The restaurant got very busy but that didn't slow down the service or food delivery. Love this place---can't wait to return.
I visit San Diego at least once a year, and this is a definite dinner or lunch spot. I have been 100% pleased each time. On business, with friends and family, with kids. Excellent all around, each and every time. Well done, Civico 1845!
