CityGate Grille Ratings and Reviews
First time diner at City Gate. For girls night out we like to try different restaurants, since I've been wanting to try City Gate for a while we decided to try it and I'm glad we went there. Everything was wonderful! It's a place I would recommend for a special night.
No bartender working the bar so we moved to a table right away instead of having a cocktail at the bar. Ordered the calamari it was okay, split the wedge salad and they came on bread plates so you couldn't cut it without getting it on the table and the dressing was awful. The lobster bisque tasted like carrot soup very disappointed. We decided not to order dinner at that point. Nothing was done for the birthday at our table and a different waiter handled our bills because our waiter had gone missing as did the hostess on the way out.
Twice we left the restaurant without our credit card? How could this happen, you say? The first time they just neglected to give it to us. The second time it was concealed in the ticket folder. When I called, the manager acknowledged that the ticket folder makes it difficult to see the card. What is most aggravating is that we sat at the table for 30 more minutes and we out front of the restaurant for 15 more. The water, Chris, despite a generous tip, made. I attempt to look for us. Apparently they have a hard time noticing whether the credit cards are returned! The manager made no attempt to help us whatsoever. You would expect more after spending $400!
My wife and I received a gift card to CityGate Grille and decided to try it out on a Friday night. We elected to dine on the terrace, which turned out to be a great idea as the weather was perfect and the terrace surrounded by beautifully maintained, lush landscaping. Our entre's were delicious, the portions generous, and the wine list more than adequate. We were very impressed with the overall dining experience, and plan to return with friends soon.
We have been here several times and have always had a good experience. The service is attentive, but not stuffy. Most Saturday evenings have been very busy except this last time. There were many empty tables. There is usually some sort of music and although each has been different, they have always been good. We usually have no complaints about the food, but were a bit disappointed this time with a tasteless bernaise sauce for the steak. There seemed to be an inbalance of the use of salt, too. Some things were lacking and some were a little too much. We like the feel of it, though, and would definitely return.
I would recommend this restaurant to a friend only because I am willing to try it again! Our party ate their for the first time for dinner on a Fri. eve. Reservations were easy to make on, "open table" with plenty of time slots available. The atmosphere was very nice, the wait staff exceptional. The calamari appetizer was superb. The one downfall was that the dinner I split with a friend of mine was too salty in every way! We ordered seared tuna which came with a vegetable and dipping sauces which were flavorful for sure but only due to the overuse of Salt! My friend agreed! Overall, the place was nice enough to give it another try. One more Salty meal and it's off my list!
The food was delicious. Table of 4 and we all loved our meals! I had grilled scallops with asparagus, corn and lobster risotto! Not too rich and perfectly cooked! Yum! hummus appetizer was very generous! We actually took some of it home. Good waiter, nice ambiance and delicious food! What more could you ask for?
What a horrible dining experience!!!! The food at CityGate Grille was tasty, but the waiter was perfectly AWFUL. The waiter rushed our $120 dinner so fast that we were finished eating within 45 minutes of arriving. Then, we sat completely ignored for another 45 minutes, until I finally grabbed the manager by the arm to ask for our check. No one ever offered us drink refills or dessert! I'm quite certain that we could have walked out, and nobody would have noticed. The bus boys, however, were attentive and kept our water glasses filled. My husband and I are middle-aged and were dressed appropriately. There was a large table being served, but otherwise the restaurant was nearly empty. There was no excuse for such deplorable service.
The food here is phenominal. The Greek salad and the Scottish Salmon were out of this world. How many dishes come with sublties like three potatoes that are individually prepared differently. The decor and the ambience make for an experience one would experience at a much more expensive restaurant. I'm not surprised though as Mr. Calamos leaves no stone unturned in these regards. Having said that, I was very much dissapointed with the service. Our waiter had to be the worst I've experienced in years. From waiting 30m to get a beverage and then being pressured like a used car salesman to order things on the menu that we were not interested in.
Service was poor...didnt seem all that busy either..I was there for my anniversary and have to say I wont be going back anytime soon....at least the music at 8:30 was cool and i asked to have a bottle of wine at our table which was there....other than that, Veal and Shrimp were mediocre at best....
Upon arrival the young girl at the front desk was very unfriendly. When we questioned the cornor table she put us in she rolled her eyes. We spent $300 on three people so I would expect a little more. When we left there was no thank you for coming as the place was not bsuy at all for a Saturday night. The help just stoud around the restaurant and talked to each other when they were not doing anything. I will not be going back.
Hello ^_^ I just wanted to let you know that I LOVED celebrating my 23rd Bday yesterday Excellent service (server's name Chris) loved the atmosphere & the music LOVED EVERYTHING me and my husband even dance jazz music lol had a lot of fun Most definitely COMING BACK Once again LOVED IT thanks ^_^
Delicious food! Excellent service! Wonderful atmosphere! We would recommend this restaurant! We had dinner fairly early on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded. Even when we left, it was a little busier, but not packed. I was hoping to hear the music, but guess it doesn't start until 8pm. We would definitely recommend the City Gate Grille!
We were early diners on a Saturday (6:30 p.m. reservation). We ordered two appetizers after a cocktail. There must not have been anyone prepared to work in the kitchen, because it took more than a half hour to get our appetizers. The dinner followed in very slow fashion, too. The food was very good, but our overall impression was dampened because of the service. The server apologized a few times during the meal and then took an inordinate amount of time herself to process our bill. Not an impressive performance.
The service at CityGate Grille was great. Our server was very attentive. I do want to mention that this was Easter Sunday and it was very busy. I would like to return here on a non-holiday. I think the food may be much better. I am not sure if they have done buffets before or not, but many items were overcooked while sitting on a buffet line. For instance, there were potato wedges that were as hard as rocks and inedible and the eggs benedict was topped with an egg whose yolk was that of a hard boiled egg. However, the seasoning on items was good. I think it may have been a lack of knowledge as far as cooking to feed masses and the intracacies of having food sit on warmers.
This restaurant is somewhat off the beaten track and is very nicely furnished. It has a good selection of bar food and entrees, inlcuding a fairly priced array of pasta-based meals. I ate a the bar and had a very tasty tortilla soup. The Mediteranean salad was very good and the gentlemen next to me tried 4 different flat breads and seemed to thoroughly enjoy (and finish) each. The humus plate is plentiful with 3 different choices accompanied by some olives, but nothing about it was distinctive. I thought some of the entrees were highly priced ($32 and up), but did not see their size. There is a nice, but small (6) selection of draft beers with a mix of established and microbrew selections. I will visit this restaurant
Great atmosphere! Live music while enjoying dinner. And a very broad menu selection. My meal was not prepared to my expectations (potatoes were cold and steak was over cooked), but there was enough potential with the restaurant I would surely give it another try.
We had a nice dinner with the family. I'm a big fan of the steak flatbread along with the ceaser salad. My wife ordered the filet and split with our son while my daughter really enjoyed the chicken with penne pasta. The mashed garlic served with the flat bread when you sit down is a nice new touch - don't recall this from prior visits.
Wew had a family celebration here and the staff was most accomodating with our group of 8. The bar area has live ( very good!) music after 8:30, which made conversation a little difficult, but we settled into listening to the musice, and doing a bit of dancing! The food was very good, but not a "fit for foodies" great. However the combination of service, music and good food is enough to ensure our return.
