Excellent food. Very busy. Glad we had a reservation!
This is a fairly small space, but they need to have more than two "order takers" on a Saturday night. The two ladies who were working were likely doing their best, but given the neverending line of takeout/delivery orders they were processing (which gummed up the front of the restaurant and made it hard to leave), they just couldn't provide anything resembling service. Calamari arrived lukewarm, two of our entrees arrived a good 5 minutes before the other two...I mean, it's not the worst Thai food I've ever had, but it sure wasn't good enough to make us want to come back anytime soon.
The restaurant was really fun! I was nervous because I have gone to many Thai food places around Portland and they have all been very basic. Nothing terrible yet nothing great. Then I stumbled across City Thai online on evening. I went at night and there were lights stringing around the windows which made for a really nice ambiance. Food was awesome as well as our waitress. I will be coming here as often as possible!
The restaurant is quiet and unassuming and resides in a dated strip mall but offers a great selection of original delights and traditional classics from Thai cuisine. Really loved the entrees we enjoyed tonight. The rice was even rich! Will definitely be back!
Restaurant was nice. And clean. They didn't know we had a reservation but seated us graciously. Noting they had chocolate lava cakes on their menu, I had included a "special occasion" note asking them to do something nice for dessert for my son's birthday but they never bothered to read it. They brought the check without even suggesting dessert and when I mentioned it to the wait person she essentially shrugged it off. On our way out the door she shouted some sort of apology. The food was ok and prices low, but nothing to make me want to go here again.
Our reservation was ready for us and the food arrived quickly. The biggest distraction of the evening was the bright round heaters placed around the room which were blinding if you looked at them. It's pretty cold in there, so I'm not sure what the problem is. The food is delicious and generous portions though.
Great overall experience. The pad thai tastes really fresh
Very nice and reasonably quiet with excellent Thai cuisine choices.
City Thai is wonderful. Polite servers. Great cocktails. Great value on quality dishes. Went with a large group and got to see the variety of dishes, wow! And very nice presentation, especially on the bbq chicken. Wonderful place, if you don't live in the area, it's worth the drive before going out in Portland.
Quiet Saturday night, was surprised to see so few patrons. Food was delicious, and service was quick.
We've tried many Thai restaurants over the years, and City Thai is one of the best - especially their Pad Thai! They also have some unusual menu items not found in other Thai restaurants, including a few dishes with avocado and yummy pumpkin tempura. Would definitely recommend this for a casual, easy night out.
The chicken satay appetizer was very good, as was the mussamun curry. I also liked the decor - not your typical strip mall restaurant.
Tasty food, great service and reasonably priced. City Thai is a nice place to enjoy a quick lunch.
This was our first time to dine at City Thai. We had chicken satay as an appetizer, which is normal for us at any Thai restaurant. It was fine though we have better peanut sauce at other establishments. For our entree, we had orange chicken and basil fried rice. Both were great. For dessert, me wife had sticky rice with mango while I had coconut ice cream. The servings were substantial.
We were introduced to this neighborhood gem by our son who lives in Portland, as we were visiting from Mn. My love for Thai food is extremely satisfied here as the service was great and very efficient.
Many different dishes in the menu, specialities of chef, very tasty food. Friendly atmosphere and service at o good location.
OMG the peanut sauce is to die for. I had a hard time deciding what to get I landed on a cashew dish however I think no matter what I had it would have been GREAT!!!!!!!!
I met with 5 friends here last Saturday evening. I made a reservation, so we were seated as soon as we arrived. The atmosphere is relaxed and lovely with artwork from Thailand. Since everyone had different wants & needs, we ordered separately, and there was plenty of delicious dishes to choose from. Service was well-timed and gracious, and we were all very happy with our choices. I was especially pleased with all the fresh vegetables and loved my stir fry with bright purple eggplant! I definitely recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner while in the Hillsdale neighborhood!
This was a decently little Thai restaurant in the area. There's a small bar at the center with tables surrounding it, which would probably make the place a bit crowded when full. Went on a late weekend evening when the restaurant only had a handful of patrons, so it was nice. We had the "Rad Nar" noodles and Tom Kha soup. The Tom Kha was a bit salty and overly strong with fish sauce- we actually had to order rice to mellow it out a bit. The Rad Nar (Lad nah - gravy noodles) was served in a large and deep bowl. I usually don't like this much gravy, but the noodles were great with nice texture and flavor and vegetables were nicely crunchy. Overall, food was ok to good with attentive service.
