City Lobster & Steakhouse - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Our party of 4 had dinner, pre-theatre, this past Saturday night. We were greeted warmly and our waiter gave us just the right amount of attention, even though we arrived early and one of our party was a bit late. The oysters were delicious as was the lobster salad, topped off with delightful sorbets. For us, the perfect meal. Kudos to our waiter for his attentiveness to a dairy allergy among us! We plan to return again and again.
I was going to eat at Benihana but then I remembered I wanted to try this place since I've walked past it a few times. Staff was exceptionally nice and our server made me feel like I was worth a billion bucks. The food was beyond tasteful, full of flavor and vibrant colors; the angry lobster was a great recommendation by our server (whose name I didn't catch). If there was a downside to this great restaurant it would be that it's far more than what meets the eye. I expected the place to be a lot more fancy, and play classical music. I guess to lighten the scene and not intimidate anyone they've kept some casualty. I give this place a 10/10. It really made my 26 birthday one to remember.
We had the the Prix-fixe dinner before going to a show. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated immediately. Our waiter was very helpful and the service was great. The food was delicious and the portions were generous without being wasteful. Overall, our experience was excellent!
I have had lunches and dinners several times at this restaurant, and it has always been a good experience.
This time I was disappointed.
The food was ordinary, we had grilled lobsters, french fries and sautéed spinach.
We left both side dishes almost untouched.
The waiter was totally over pushing/overselling.
He also made me uncomfortable trying to push my guest to order larger, more, extra...
I found it very expensive for what it was, at this price level you expect something out of the ordinary.
USD 230.- for 2 lobsters and 2 sides, a glass of wine and a beer.
However, as always a great and warm and smiling welcome by the ladies at the welcome desk and the manager.
I may give this restaurant a second chance, but not for a while...
I had a lunch with my colleague. I selected pre-fix lunch menu with special entree ($10 extra). Clam chowder was very tasty and the best that I've ever had for a long time. I ordered monk fish with mushroom risotto as entree. The fish had a good flavor and risotto was not so heavy. I finished with key lime pie as a dessert. I enjoyed an excellent meal!!
While I appreciate the fact that waiters are working to make money, this place bordered on being forceful when it came to being upsold from the bottled water in the beginning to the after dinner drinks at the end. The steak was OK, as was the lobster, but the price was steep for the meal we received. The offering and price structure make you question why you did not just pick a real steak house in the first place.
This was my second time at City Steak and Lobster and it was every bit as good as the first time. Our server, Kevin, was amusing without being annoying and knew his stuff about the food. The prix fixe menu was a great deal. The only regret I had was allowing our server to suggest a wine without knowing the price first. It was a fabulous bottle of wine but clocked in at $92 a bottle so it should have been good. Having said that, we ordered a second bottle! (The wine bill was higher than the dinner bill). Nice white tablecloths, clean restrooms, great menu-- will be back.
I have been to City Lobster several times and each time they give me a new reason to come back. If your a seafood lover, you must try the Fisherman's Catch. The sweet savory taste of the lobster, clams, mussels and squid over the perfectly cooled pasta will have you begging for more. Oh and I could I forget the Garlic Toast that rest on top of the amazing dish. You will not regret trying this restaurant. Sit by the window and people watch as you dine. You will LOVE it! Kudos to the Chef as well as the staff. I give it 10 stars out of 5. Keep up the great work!
On business looking for a decent steakhouse. On a busy night, this place was the only one without a wait. Food was decent...nothing to complain about, but it wasn't necessarily top-notch. Service was outstanding. Very attentive, with quick delivery of all food items. If you can't get in a better steakhouse, this place is a competent replacement.
Ordered steak, medium-rare, came out medium well. Clam chowder had way too much thyme, tasted moldy. Bearnaise Sauce tasted like Knorrs powdered hollandaise, no tarragon. Waiter was professional but had no personality, expressionless. Wish we went to Oceana across the street.
I usually love every dish I get at this restaurant however, this weekend I tried the scallops with the lobster risotto. Skip this one. The scallops were delicious but the risotto wasn't risotto at all. The rice was underdone, it was watery, and there was no lobster flavor at all. There were a couple of small pieces of lobster but it seemed more like a mushroom 'risotto' that they threw some lobster meat in. That's why I couldn't give it 5 stars for food. However, our waiter quickly apologized when I complained and gave me a substitute with not issues. They are so serious about making their customers happy that the manager brought me my replacement dish! That was this only issue I had with the food. Everything else was to die for! The crab & Shrimp dumplings were awesome, my mother's Chilean sea bass was marvelous and, as I said earlier, the scallops were delicious. And don't leave without trying the Crème Brule cheesecake - it's like heaven on a plate!!
So as this is titled - the service is always great at this restaurant.
My friend and I had lunch here prior to a theater matinee. We had reservations, were seated promptly and the service was better than last time. We both had the shrimp with risotto and we both liked it. My risotto had lobster in it though my companion's did not. My friend especially enjoyed the bread basket. For dessert my companion had the house made profiteroles, vanilla bean ice cream with a dense Belgium expresso chocolate sauce. She thought it was very good. I had the cheesecake which was also good.
City Lobster is a totally reliable and wonderful place for lunch or dinner or a mid afternoon stop for a beer and a dozen oysters. service is always great. food is always great. and very important, the noise level is quite low, enabling good conversation. even the music was great - Sinatra and similar. Thank you, City Lobster for another great outing.
The fixed-price menu was very attractive, albeit confusing. They listed a 1-1/4 lb. lobster and a 2 lb. lobster. The 2 lb. lobster included a $24 upcharge on the $42 fixed price menu. That begs the question, "Why is there a 2 lb. lobster listed at all on the Fixed Price menu? That isn't a fixed price at all!"
The lobster was excellent. But, probably not 50% better than the 1-1/4 lb. lobster.
Lastly, my calamari was overcooked and chewy. Everyone else's appetizer appeared to be fine.
This is a very good seafood restaurant near the theater district. I had the scallops with lobster risotto and it was very nicely done. Service is very good, menu is extensive, desserts are fun. Nice wines as well. We arrived earlier than our reservation, but were able to be seated promptly and we were at the theater in plenty of time. I'm from the east coast and can be a bit of pain on my seafood, so you can trust me when I say they do a very good job here. Very enjoyable.
We have dined here several times and enjoyed every meal .
I can't remember our waiters name ,but he was from Serbia.
Very attentive and a pleasure to talk to.
My only complaint is why offer a price fix menu with supplement pricing?
After pricing out my meal , it was more affordable to order off the standard menu .
I booked the restaurant because I wanted a seafood meal to celebrate a milestone birthday with my husband. Because of the fact that it is a seafood restaurant with high prices, I thought the restaurant was fancier than it is, (I thought we would have to check our coats...) It is a basic bar/steak place, nothing fancy about the environment. It wasn't too loud, which was great. The Prix Fixe menu seemed like the best deal as far as pricing. The lobster bisque was delicious. The "angry" lobster was also very tasty and there was a lot of it. I ordered the crabcakes, and there were only two and some corn. I was still hungry, but couldn't afford to order anything else. We had the pecan pie for dessert, and that was very good. There were 3 errors during our meal, which is a lot: the waiter got our drinks wrong, they brought us the wrong dessert, and they forgot to bring us coffee and just brought the check.
the bar area was freezing - the bartender was well aware - we tried moving - it was freezing everywhere by the bar
the food just wasn't good
they messed up out order
lobster mashed potatoes, sound yum - but not
the raw bar was fine - cant really mess that up ...
cesar salad - not good
miso glazed fish - cod i think - also not good
sooo many options in the area! don't choose this one
I was very impressed with the service that city lobster offered myself and my guest. I had a last minute birthday dinner for a good friend. One simple phone call to John, the general manager, and all about my special requests were met.
Beyond that, city lobster has never failed to deliver fresh delicious seafood with an extraordinary gift for flavors. The Lobster Roll was fresh, bright, creamy and on the most delicious roll I have ever tasted!
The service is just exquisite and the attention to detail in the service is admirable!
Kudos to John and his team!
