City Fish Market Ratings and Reviews
I always love City Fish. However, our server, Richard, while basically competent, had the personality of a rock. Usually besides the great food, we get a vibrant and upbeat server. We ordered the clams casino to split for two of us, big mistake, the dish was not hot and the pieces of shell were a bit on the crunchy side. Richard kept telling us that 500 people were going to be served, like that would excuse something that we should be aware of? Not sure why that should matter.
Overall, so so with the location we got, and Richard, otherwise usual good food was served.
Too cold to eat outside but food is still delicious inside. We shared the half shrimp half crab cocktail tonstart...so good!dinners were blackened grouper and parm crusted salmon. I love that we get vegetables here. Fish super fresh with any preparation imaginable. Love the bread...it made an encore appearance at breakfast this morning.
With a reservation on a week night, there is always a wait of 20 - 30 minutes. Unfortunately, during our visit this year, there was no room for a drink at the bar because people were eating dinner there. So the wait was not pleasant. On the night we were there, they had no clams or sole, blaming the weather up north. All other seafood restaurants had clams during our 10 day stay in the area. I wouldn’t return to this restaurant particularly because the wait seems to be part of their business model.
have been here several times. Never disappointed. Both the food and the service was very good. Busy Saturday night in the middle of the visitor season and they handled it very well. The food was prepared just right and they even threw in a nice birthday dessert.
We have eaten here many times and have had positive experiences, however, when you order a chopped salad for an additional fee, and they blame the inability to chop it on corporate, something is wrong!
There chopped salads are not chopped at all.
Suggestion....don't order a chopped salad !
Three out of four main dishes were fine but one was terrible. The lobster newburg au gratin at $45 was an absolute mess. The sauce was a spicier version of their lobster bisque and the lobster meat was very soft as if the lobster wasn’t fresh. Not worth the cost not worth eating.
Lovely ambiance, greeted and seated immediately. Beautiful location in the outer seating. Menu is interesting. Server came within a reasonable time.
What we didn’t like: -
1) My wine glass was DIRTY. This was a spoiler, should not have arrived at the table like that. Our waitress took it away and returned with what seemed like the same glass which had been wiped, but not carefully. I did not drink it.
2) My wife’s meal had mashed potatoes, unfortunately it was the instant kind (prepared from a box) which she cannot eat.
We were surprised by these occurrences because we thought that this establishment was supposed to be a cut above what we experienced.
This was our third visit (we are from out of state). The experience was been a consistently good one. The service is efficient and professional, The fish, the heart of the restaurant, is excellently prepared. Overall, a very classy, without being pretentious, experience.
