Traveled all the way from NJ to enjoy some good seafood for my girlfriends birthday just to find it was CLOSED FOR BUSINESS. That's right OUT OF BUSINESS FOR GOOD. We had a confirmed reservation and everything.
Extremely disappointed in the restaurant and with the OpenTable system for not having some preventative measures for this sort of thing.
I would like to know how I could make a reservation on OpenTable, get a confirmation from OpenTable for s restaurant that is OUT OF BUSINESS?? My family and I were very disappointed since this was a birthday celebration.
The food was good. Missing a few key menu items due to delivery issues.
I loved my server they were very attentive! And nice
Only two kinds of oysters??
The waiter changed after being seated
THIS IS THE OLD CITY LOBSTER FROM PARK AVE. IT WAS BETTER WHEN IT WAS ON PARK AVE FOOD WAS ACCEPTABLE BUT BLAND SERVICER WAS FRIENDLY. THIS IS MORE FOR YOUNGER CROWD NOT A MATURE DINER. HIGHLY OVER PRICE NOT WORTH THE COST FOR THE FOOD.
Food was okay. Was disappointed in the quality had heard such good things
Service was good. Might try for lunch
Great service very attentive & Informative.
Better places to go for better food and service dingy dirty looking ho elsewhere
This was my last time going to this restaurant because I am moving far away and I do not plan to return to NYC. The server provided my guest and I with sparkling water instead of regular tap water. I don't know how much that cost - I was not pleased that the server gave us sparking water - he asked briefly if we would like some sparking water, ran off and brought us a bottle. Then when i tasted it, I knew that we were probably going to be charged for it - but I made no big deal about it. I did not have plans to have sparkling water - I expected tap water - so I was displeased about this. Otherwise, everything else was just great as usual - delicious food and a place to relax, catch up with a friend, and have a very fulfilling day. I shall greatly miss this most delightful place. I know that where I am going, I will not find a similar place.
was so excited to try the new location and it was such a disappointment, from the minute we walked in, the waiter seemed lost, we asked him what the Happy Hour cocktails were and we could not get a straight answer, the bartender finally came and took our orders, 15 minutes later we were still waiting for our drinks to find out they did not have all the ingredients. first drink was comped but I order two soups and they brought one, when I tell the waiter we asked for 2 he brings me a second spoon, I tell him again the order was for 2, he brings me an empty bowl so we could share the soup at this point I was looking Ashton Kushner thinking they are pranking us. 10 minutes later we had the second soup. Drinks were pure juice, no liquor.
The food was good but not worth going back.
This was my second time eating here - and what I expressed in the first review, has not changed. My friend and I went on a most rainy day UGH! but we had the place to ourselves and the server was again very attentive to us and very pleasant.
Happy hour has .99 oysters which were excellent as were the crab beignets.
The lobster rolls are delicious and the staff very friendly. Also you can check in on Yelp to unlock a free dessert offer.
I made my reservation for 11:30 a.m. because I figured I could beat the lunch crowd - which I did because I was the first person in the restaurant that day. I was greeted warmly and attended to immediately and I enjoyed greatly the fish and chips - I had not tasted such delicious fish and chips in a very long time - I am certain to go back when I can and I recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone who enjoys fish
Restaurant is closed. Don't understand why Open Table is even taking reservations and allowed me to reserve. Arrived and totally embarassed with the guests I invited to join me that evening that is closed. Windows and doors were all papered over - no sign saying anything. Had to Rate one star, because otherwise Open Table does not allows to get out of this screen.
I made the reservation through Opentable and when we arrived the restaurant was closed. The windows were covered up but there was no closure notice from the Health Dept. or Tax Dept. I called the restaurant that night and the next day and the phone just rang. I sent an email message to Open Table and the Crab Shack but never received a response from either. I don't understand why Open Table allows you to book a closed place. Ridiculous!
Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant it was closed. No explanation and apologies from open table. Frustrating... Especially as it was on Friday night and all other places were packed.
How was it???. Never got to go..lol..took a cab..which was 45 min and $40...also made reservations on cell which were confirmed. .just to get there and it was frigging closed down...!!! Poor way to run a business. ..
Before there was a Crab Shack, there was City Crab. I actually had a gift card from City Crab. I contacted the new Crab Shack when it opened and went back and forth with them for about 8 months as to whether or not they'd accept the gc. I got the ok, that it was no problem. When we arrived the first thing they said was the credit card machine wasn't working and they could only accept cash, since they had my name & number, they should have called. I mentioned I had a gc and I was immediately told that they weren't accepted. I explained that I talked to someone, gave that person's name and was still told they wouldn't accept it. I asked for a manager & was told they wouldn't be until 4pm (it was 1pm). I asked that they called one. They gave me a hard time but finally called. I was told over the phone they wouldn't accept it. When I asked who I was speaking to , I was told the sous chef! I asked for the manager or owner & was told they could not be reached. I asked what they did in case of an emergency & the chef said he would try to reach somebody. After about 15 mins, he called back & said they'd take the gc. When we came in, a couple with their kids were on their way out. My parents & I were the only ones in the restaurant (there were a few dining outside). Two different servers came & took our orders, thus when the bill came, it was all wrong. As for the food, the buffalo shrimp was too salty and tough; they didn't taste fresh. The crab cakes were also overly seasoned and salty. The mini lobster rolls (an extra $7) were dry and tasteless. The best item were the french fries that came with the lobster rolls. I'm not sure why the original City Crab closed, but this reinvention is not even close to the original.
Used to live in NY. Ate at the crab house on park before the move.
To try after the move.
Sat night. Nice night in the city, walk in at 7. Maybe 5 people.. Should have known.
Told to go to back by the waitress .. Anywhere... Should have known. Waited for menus and water, finally waiter comes by and asks if we were helped. Ordered items, waiter did not write down. Ok. Came back about 45 sec later to check again and again. Ordered oysters... Never brought out.
Came out with one order mistake. Had to wait with entrees until order delivered. Side dish of broccoli bitter, could not eat and sent back.
Through meal , drunk guy at bar wanted to be center of attention for entire. Place. Finally asked to leave after a few f bombs.
Food was average at best. I was emabarrased for the employees This place needs to close.
Great happy hour until 630pm. Fresh beignets and well seasoned shrimp with old bays seasoning. Only bottled beers. Cocktail was ok.
This was my first time to City Crab Shack - we were all very pleased with our dishes. Loved the crab beignets!
Food was good - liked the menu at the old City Crab better - missed the Shrimp stuffed with Crab meat. Waiter was excellent. Price was fair.
They didn't seem to care that we had a reservation - no host greeted you. Servers seem very stressed - took over 20 minutes to get a check after asking for it. Food was good but you are dining amidst chaos.
Old bay spice and crab was just as expected. Quick service, please try the Mac & Cheese.
The restaurant had the heat on so hot in the back in order to keep the front warm. However, they were only seating large groups in the front? So we were so hot and uncomfortable throughout our meal. They had limited alcohol- only Titos and another Russian vodka that no one had ever heard of. The waiter did not know how to describe the meals or apps on the menu???? He was unable to answer any of our questions
Finally - I asked for the heat to be turned down and they said that they would open a window somewhere in the back! Horrible experience for us - and we were HUGE city crab fans-
just terrible just a mess i'm sorry. we only had 1 waiter for 20 people which wasn't even fair to the waiter and everything was just a mess
No complaints about the food - the chowder and the fish and chips were among the best. in some ways better than Asalt and Battery. However, it was very pricey and the general ambience is diner -like. Too bad they dont deliver. I would go back but would be more careful about what I ordered. 17.00 for shrimp cocktail is very expensive.
We wanted to like this place. I love the idea of it... but this was probably the worst service I've had since living in New York. Food was mediocre and overpriced (the food that came out, at least. We had to cancel half our order because they never brought it out). They only have two beers and a lot of overly sweet, overpriced cocktails. Amazed that somewhere like this can stay in business in this city.
We were pleasantly surprised by the prix-fixe menu choices and the service during our recent lunch there. This is definitely a place we would return to for a casual lunch or dinner.
Happy hour oysters and chowder were delicious and a great price! Drink options are another story. Only draft was Yuengling. Narragansett beer was on the menu, but didn't have any available. Limited wine and classic cocktail selections (e.g., no Rosè, Bloody Mary, Malibu).
The service was great but food was just ok. The wait staff on point and the bartender was very attentive. This place is Good for a casual meal with friends. It wasn't quite the date night ambiance we had it mind.
Way below par valentines
We had a late afternoon lunch. The seafood Cobb salad was very fresh and delicious. Unlike other seafood restaurants, they gave a very generous portion - large shrimp, lots of lump crab meat and blue cheese. I would order that again. The service was attentive and the wine was nice. Kudos
It was for an early Valentine's Day dinner. The problem here was the staff wasn't interested in serving. We quickly received our drinks, then the waitress came back 15 minutes later to take our order. By the time we received the entrees, we had been sitting there for 45 minutes. When I mentioned this to the waitress, then and only then did she start moving. Because we were waiting for food and monitoring the staff's lack of attentiveness, we didn't really get to enjoy each other's company. Additionally, we were heading to a comedy show, so we couldn't even casually enjoy the meal, because we were also concentrating on the clock.
The food was good, but was overpowered by bad service. We won't be back - it's a shame.
Went for restaurant week with my boyfriend- really enjoyed the crab cakes and oysters rockefeller. The crab croquettes were filled with fresh crab meat! It was more than I was expecting. I got a steam pot for dinner, the flavor was good but the crab on the top was a little cold. They use a lot of Old Bay.
Awesome restaurant. As usual I had a great time. The food was good and the service was great.
The clam chowder is amazing, one of the best I've ever had. Everything was great except the desert and coffee.
The food was delicious! Our personable waitress very attentive.
