This a wonderful place. Great for business lunch and fun weekend brunches
The food was good but the service was just strange. Our waiter overheard saying we should get a bottle of wine so from two tables away he says, "If you're ordering a bottle of wine, I'll go get him." So, a man we assume to be their somm came up, and asked if we were ordering a bottle of wine. We said yes and told him what we wanted. He took the menu and left. They poured the wine and then put the wine in an ice bucket...across the restaurant. Since we couldn't find our waiter, I finally got up to refill our glasses. The waiter came out from the behind the bar (I can only assume he was watching the TV behind the bar because there wasn't anybody in the bar) frantic that I would pour my own wine....so then he moved the wine bucket next to our table. There were other strange incidents but the food was good.
I have a thing for Crab Louis and it’s great there! It’s not noisy at all/ I like that too
Welcome was warm and personal as always. Ambiance, food, drinks, and service were superlative. Our favorite home away from home for any meal!!!
Friday evening, place nearly empty, which may explain the over attention we got, verging in annoying. Salad was pleasant after adding a pinch of salt. Wife’s filet was properly cooked and tender, my halibut also cooked very well as were the added veggies. Nothing to complain about it here. But by now it was 9:30 and absolutely empty. The kitchen was busy cleaning and putting things away. The servers looked ready to go. We decided to skip dessert, coffee, port, etc. If you live close by it’s probably a good place to return to as the staff will get to know you. As for us, I doubt we will return. Too many favorites on our list for this one to make the cut.
It is always a treat to meet a sister, a friend, a business partner or just go with family or the one you love. Lunch or Dinner - an afternoon drink & light dining. We have loved it for years. A real treat. We even take an extra order for the one we love when it is "just us girls!"
The experience was fine as usual… The duck was Perfect
It is always a pleasure at City Cafe. Everyone knows your name. The food is very, very good
and crafted to suit your particular loves - with care and a smile. Karim is a gracious host, to say the least.
Always a great experience. Karim and staff were, as per usual, friendly and efficient. The food and presentation were supreme.
We visit regularly and will visit again very soon.
Food outstanding as always; quiet conversation possible; serviced (Veronica) excellent!!!
We dined here to celebrate my birthday with my husband and son. The restaurant is located on the ground floor and has a small bar area near the entry. Valet parking is available directly in front of the door, which is helpful as there is not much parking off the street. We were greeted cordially and promptly seated by the manager/Owner, Karim.
The restaurant is decorated in light, neutral colors with plush booths and tables covered with white tablecloths. It was elegant without being stuffy, and had an open kitchen concept. It was not noisy, and it was easy to converse at our table. The staff was very helpful with choices of wine and describing the various dishes and specials. The menu was creative and also had a variety of dishes that covered steaks, seafood, and pasta and salads. Meals were attractively plated and served and tasted delicious! We had Dover Sole, carpaccio, salads and a duck dish which were top quality. I was also presented with a delicious dessert which was “on the house”.
We tried a wonderful wine by Shelby vineyards (a Pinot Noir) that was excellent. It was highly recommended, and we were not disappointed!
We had a lovely, relaxed evening, and will be sure to return! Thank you to Karim for making our experience a wonderful one!
As always, Karim is the ultimate host, and the staff are awesome. LOVE the City Cafe Fried Chicken! Our favorite restaurant for ANY occasion - AND they serve a wonderful High Tea too!!!
City Cafe is consistently good. You will never be disappointed. The special entries are often fabulous. Karim the host/owner is always delightful. Ask him for wine recommendations.
We went for brunch and the food was wonderful. Our server was excellent!
I took my date to City Cafe for a belated Valentine's dinner. It was a great time with personal service from our host Karim, our waiter, and staff which made the night special. Be sure to consider any specials available, as we had the Dover sole which was really special. The tortellini escargot was better than what I imagined it would be when we ordered it. The beet salad was great. I ordered a great martini (gin, extra dry, two olives) which was filled all the way to the brim. (Most of the volume is in the top of the glass!) I highly recommend the key lime pie, it was really fantastic!
This restaurant lives up to it's name and captures the spirit of a classy restaurant in downtown NYC, something that made my date very happy to reminisce on.
My second trip to City Cafe, the first was with a big group from Baylor. It was great from the greeting at the door to getting my car. Will definitely return. FYI: it was one of the best steaks I've had in Dallas.
Awesome Valentine’s Day spot!!!
The food was excellent as always; and, Rodrigo did an outstanding job of taking very good care of us--making us once again feel quite special!!!
This was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed this spot. Delightful and attentive staff! Clean, bright, beautiful flowers, wonderful food!
The only thing that felt a bit off was that we were enjoying Sinatra, Doris Day, Louis Armstrong when it suddenly switched (mid song) to cheesy 70s music (Andy Gibbs) and then all of sudden we were listening to Stairway to Heaven. We like all that music, but thought the older classics were a better fit with the environment. And, we wish the menu had a few more selections.
Best place in DFW for business lunch
Lunch was absolutely wonderful in all respects! Look forward to returning soon.
Warm quiet ambiance with knowledgeable attentive service. At our table the lamb chops, salmon, and pepper steak entree were all enjoyed. Would recommend asking for a lighter dose of dressing on salad or dressing on the side.
Delicious food in a wonderful warm and quiet setting. You can hear the other people in your party talk. Loved the argentini drink!
I have been to City Café many times for lunch. 99% of the time it's a really really good experience--- environment, service, and food. On this particular occasion--- for whatever reason the gas grill was being inspected so 50-60% of the menu was unavailable. Needless to say this was very embarrassing because this was a client lunch and the client was irritated. Additionally, the server seemed less than knowledgeable about the limited menu that remained. Based on my experience this was not the normal experience for City Café --but disappointing none the less.
Food is always excellent and not over-priced! Rare in Dallas. Service is always first class, and Karim, the maitre'd is exceptionally talented and attentive!
Wonderful lunch, great food and great service.
We always enjoy the quite atmosphere at City Cafe.
This restaurant is a very quiet place which is highly conducive to a nice, quiet conversation. It was very good to be able to be at this restaurant for this specific reason. The food was good. The bread pudding dessert was excellent.
City Cafe is one of our favorites. We love the brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, and special celebrations. Most recent visit included brunch, and very kind and charming care from our server Rodrigo.
As always, a lovely experience, although we did have to wait longer than anticipated since we had a reservation.
It has been a long time since I dined at City Cafe - what a pleasant surprize, it was better than I even remembered. The atmosphere was very soothing and calm and the food and service was just outstanding. We will return again very soon.
City Cafe is a neighborhood gem that endures. Karim is the consummate host. His waitstaff is attentive and so very pleasant. Our favorite dish is the Dover sole, deboned tableside. This is not the latest fad restaurant but delicious dining experience where you can actually converse with your companions.
Absolutely delicious food! Had the roasted beet salad to start, with the crispy shrimp with fried rice for the entree, then key lime pie for dessert. Worth every single calorie! That key lime pie in particular was amazing - flavorful and creamy, but somehow tasted light. SO good!
We had another lovely evening at City Cafe. The atmosphere is wonderful. We feel like we are eating in our own home. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient, and very unobtrusive. We never feel rushed. The food was delicious. We all started with the Heirloom tomato salad, which is delicious. Three of us had the Dover Sole special, and my husband had the lamb shank. We all enjoyed our entrees. We split the creme brulee and the bread pudding for dessert, and both were excellent. Wonderful!
Enjoyed NYE dinner there and the food and service didn’t disappoint! Everything from my martini to the Veal Scallopini was delicious. Impressive menu for NYE.
Never ceases to be delicious and delightful. Always consistent.
We had dinner here with friends on a Friday night and it was wonderful. Very attentive service, and it was quiet enough to easily carry on a conversation! We started with the heirloom tomato salad and the best salad, both were excellent. Three of us had the sea bass special which was delicious. My husband had the pork chop that was very good. We will definitely be back!
Always superb service, delicious food, gracious atmosphere, and lovely experience!
As always, food, service, and ambiance was outstanding!!!
Our home away from home!!!
I love City Cafe! Karim welcomes me like an old friend. Every need is met and I leave refreshed!(and usually with a small box of cookies)!
It took over 30 min to receive our food. The manager got angry at our server and began opening and shutting cabinet doors right by our table of 8. No breadbasket appetizer available. It was a long afternoon.
