About City Cafe
On the northwestern edge of University Park sits an exceptional white-tablecloth "Neighborhood Gem". The menu changes seasonally, but retains the relaxed New American Cuisine character that has been the restaurant’s trademark since 1985. Impressing even distinguished American chef Julia Child, for over three decades City Café has been widely recognized in Texas Monthly, Food & Wine Magazine, Zagat, Wine Spectator, D Magazine, and was also recipient of AAA’s “Diamond Award”.

City Cafe Ratings and Reviews
City Cafe is generally wonderful. But the service has become less than acceptable. I've had the same waiter the last two times I have been there. He is slow, gets things wrong, does not know answers, and we had to flag him down for anything we needed. I will not return unless I can have a different server.
Karim, the General Manager and host, sets the stage and tone with his warm, charming greeting. His people follow his lead and there is no better food or service in town. This is an upscale but friendly restaurant with a great menu and terrific ambiance. The wine list is great and the cocktails are a generous pour!
This is our go-to stop whenever we head downtown to the symphony. It's a great pre-theater meal. Quiet, fast, not cheap but not over the top expensive, with servers that show a genuine interest in your meal. Food was great. We had the heirloom tomato salad that was wonderful. The halibut special was equally good. A very nice way to head off to an evening of music or theater!
Wonderful evening celebrating a birthday in an environment where you could hear yourself talk. Unobtrusive, nostalgic background music made for an intimate dining experience that was unhurried and thoroughly enjoyable!! Service was spot-on, and never absent. This venue has a well supported reputation for fine dining, and is well worth the effort to go there. Make sure you have a reservation, even on off nights.
I went to City Café in its' heyday - about 20 years ago. At that time it was one of the "in" places to go and I remember that both the food and the experience were very enjoyable. So, when a friend suggested we revisit after all these years, I was looking forward to it. We arrived at 7:30pm expecting a full dining room on a Saturday evening, however it was relatively empty. A couple of larger groups and two or three couples were all that were dining that night. The interior was the same, cozy and quiet. The food was solid, if unremarkable (and a bit dated). Also we felt it was quite pricey compared to similar spots. The staff was very friendly and we could tell they were trying hard to provide an upscale experience. Unfortunately, there were a few mix-ups on our order, which was surprising considering we were our waiter's only table. City Café will probably continue - simply due to locals in the neighborhood supporting it. For us, it is the end of an era.
One of my few 'go to' restaurants in Dallas that never disappoints. And that's been true for the 30 years I've gone there! Karim creates a warm, welcoming environment. Rodrigo (and others) provide tremendous service. And the food is savory, comforting as well as a delight.
One of the best brunches in Dallas. The manager came out to rave about a champagne they serve. It was so good we bought the bottle. The pastry basket is a must! Always friendly and attentive staff. If they were rated on standards from Forbes, they would get ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
