Tasty food, great energy. Service was terrific! A rare gem in the neighborhood. Definitely recommend.
Friendly staff and helpful staff. They didn't judge me when I ordered both the Mac and cheese and the poutine and it was just me dining alone.
They have a nice wine list and are knowledgable about what they serve.
The food was incredible and reasonably priced.
It wasn't busy yet when I was there. 5:30 on a Thursday evening but I can imagine that it would get loud when it fills up
This is a fun little restaurant. The food is great -- I'd particularly recommend the burrata and the fried chicken! The service was excellent -- the staff made the meal a perfect one!
The food was fabulous. Lots of flavor. Great service. A bit on the expensive side - $80 for 2 meals, 1 non-alcoholic drink and 2 ice cream desserts, inc. tax and tip. But, I would definitely go there again.
Great wine list. Food American classic with some flair and fresh invredients.
Basic but hearty dishes that fill you up. Try the fries - amazing! A pretty decent wine list too.
Three of us dined here before a show at the Orpheum Theater just a few short blocks away. Service was at a great pace (not rushing us but attentive and full of tips); food was piping hot and so good. Fried Chicken along with a melt in your mouth honey topped biscuit and escarole side dish was out of this world. Shared the Poutine and the Tomato Salad appetizers (both unique and delicious). One of us had the hamburger with fries and she loved it too (I didn't get a taste of that one). Would dine here again in a heartbeat.
We realized after the theater, that we'd totaled the credit card incorrectly (by $10) -- so, we made sure to stop in on our way to our car to correct the error (the servers totally deserved that part of their tip as they were very friendly and service was great).
Not fit for those with food allergies. Was rushed to the emergency room after dining here. They did not take food allergies seriously.
If you don't have food allergies then this review doesn't apply
I saw pictures of the Mac & Cheese online and I had to come here to try it...I was NOT disappointed! The pork fries were also pretty good. The burger I had was HUGE and I couldn't even finish it. They have a great service staff that were all very attentive and friendly. This is a cool place. Next time thought I want to save room for dessert. There's some good options, but I couldn't fathom eating ant more food.
you'd pass Citizen Band and not even know its a quality restaurant connected to a fine bakery (Pinkies); we had their wonderful bacon/carmelized onion cheese burger and fried chicken with a biscuit, all very good. we'll certainly be back!
The place looked cool and unique inside with its postcard and old vintage photo wal/decor. It's connected to the bakery and the bar/club next door. The staff was very friendly. I was excited to try this place for my goddaughter's graduation dinner (she loves these type of restaurants). We ordered the the poutine fries (with the pork on the side), Mac & cheese, and the fried chicken. The first time, the server forgot to tell them to put pork on the side (I don't eat pork) so she had to return it, which was perfectly fine. When she did bring out the correct plate, it was simply delicious! It had an amazing blend of cheese and gravy. It was a perfect combination of everything.
My goddaughter said that was the best part of the dinner and I would have to agree. She did enjoy her Mac & Cheese. Although, she said the onion rings on top were better than the Mac and cheese on bottom. I'm not a fan of baked mac & cheese so I didn't really have a take on it. Presentation was unique. My fries chicken on the other hand, I was let impressed at all. The dish came with 4 pieces of chicken, a large biscuit and some greens. The chicken just had an odd taste to it. I tried dipping it in the gravy and without, but I just wasn't thrilled with the flavor of the chicken. I can't pinpoint what it was exactly that made me find it very unappealing. So, I ate the rest of the biscuit and oil the chicken to go (maybe someone at home can try it and see if they like it. Unfortunately, no one wanted to eat it or even try it. What a waste.) overall, the feel was the place was cool and the poutine fries were bomb! But, that pretty much ends it for me right there. Nothing too great after that. It's another place my goddaughter can cross off her list of restaurants to try.
Food was amazing!! Little hole in the wall joint but very tasty!! Glad we found it!
Citizens Band has a very eclectic atmosphere - very small, so be sure to get a reservation. Good wine list. Food was good southern comfort style food. Not the very best food for the price, but I suppose you're paying for the atmosphere. Overall, we had a great time.
Unexpectedly superb food and flubber sized portions! Citizen's Band is a hidden restaurant disguised with slummy street frontage, unassuming entry and invisible signage. Take a walk on the wild side.. You will be glad you did!
I was greeted when I walked in and seated right away to my reserved table. The place fills up rather quickly. The food is delicious! I highly recommend the Poutine and the Mac N Cheese, which is served differently than most places. Their wine list is small but the selection was perfect. Our server was so sweet and checked in on us often. I would definitely come here again.
Good food, great service and awesome wine selection. Don't get fooled by the hipster decor, this place is a gem.
Stumbled across this place while reading online reviews. Greatest find in the city so far! Delicious food, cute place, great service! Try the Mac and cheese!
A step up from a classic diner, no frills yet hip without the pretense. Comfort food; the mac n cheese is a winner & the Pork Chop is the bomb! Good late night ish.. (11pm Kitchen closes) if you are local to the area, easy eats for a lazy week night or drinking, clubbing in the area (Public Works, 1015, Monarch etc).
Either San Francisco foodies have lost a step or someone made a misstep marking this restaurant as "Fit for Foodies". On the table we had a Caesar salad, the seasonal pickle jar, the burger, and the fried chicken. The salad was almost identical to what I would have gotten from Panera, the pickles and burger were just "fine", and the chicken while cooked well lacked originality and flavor. To top the night off, at 9PM the club next door unleashed a playlist of heavy bass EDM music which was so loud the windows rattled with each thump; the ambiance which was Citizen's Band's saving grace was ruined. Two thumbs up for service but I think I'd rather have bad service and great food.
I love coming here and try to every time I am in the neighborhood having beers at either City Beer Store or cocktails at Bloodhound. I always drool over the decadent looking pastries at the counter but have yet to indulge.
My wife and I walked by the place a couple times. It is a very small corner spot next to a nightclub. The windows are marked with graffiti, and the walls are covered with stapled postcards. However, the tables are clean and set nicely. Service was great, and the food was terrific.
We got there early in order to see a show later, and we were among the first there. By the time we left, the place was packed and noisy. They must be doing something right.
The service was great and so was the music playing but the volume was too high. The food sounded and looked great but lacked much flavor. Overall the experience was so-so. I would not seek it out, but would stop if I passed hungry.
I had the fried chicken which was moist with crispy delicious batter. My friend had the Burger with fires. His burger was cooked perfectly and the fries were crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside, just great. The service was friendly and helpful. Nice wines while somewhat pricey they actually gave you a rare almost extinct "DECENT POUR." I almost passed out, I haven't seen that in years. The place is comfortable while a bit to many edges and noise bouncing spaces. Music got to be a bit annoying not for the music but for the intrusive volume. Bottom line is I would return and would recommend it as a good place to dine.
I found Citizens Band with a quick neighborhood search and I am so glad that I found it. I had no idea that it was a 5 min walk from my apartment, but now that I know I intend to become a regular. The burger was absolutely the best one that I have ever had...order it medium with the egg on top and it melted in my mouth. Every bite was a flavor explosion and I somehow managed to finish the entire thing pretty darn quickly. The garlic fries were the perfect match for the burger and I ate every last morsel. If the food weren't enough, the service was awesome despite it being very busy. I will be back...over and over again.
Food and wine was just okay, wouldn't go back on my own but also wouldn't be opposed to going back if someone else wanted to try it. The service was a little slow.
Great food and service! So creative. Loved the vegetarian main course (pesto couscous, roasted tomatoes, broccoli, purple, green and white cauliflower, zucchini shaved super thin and all so delicious and perfectly cooked. Husband loved the tuna (perfectly seared, served with an interesting mix of vegetables and bits of lobster). Friends had grilled cheese and tomato soup. Loved it. We liked wine/drink choices. Super friendly and attentive waitstaff. Reasonable price. Next time we want to try the burger and fries. Seems as if a lot of people ordered that. Only slight negative - music was on the loud side. But that's probably more a reflection of our age/music and volume preference. Great experience. Will be back.
We have eaten here a few times over the years. The first time was the best. The service has always been very good; friendly and professional. The food was good but I remember it as better. The facility needs a refresh. The wine list was the highlight. Interesting, priced well and a fun way to explore new things.
Love the diner feel with food that was great. Mac and cheese, burgers and fries all received high marks from a very picky group of friends. Wine list is long. Asked for the biscuit on the side from Pinkies. Made my night. Carrot cake from Pinkies bakery finished off the night.
After reviewing the menu and reading some reviews I went to Citizens Band with high expectations. What I would say after my meal the concept was good however the food and service was average. If you lived within walking distance it would be a fine neighborhood establishment. If you need to travel I would say you can find better places to dine.
Service was nice. Cute hole in the wall, but the Food was Poor! We had the pork and the fried chicken. Both were very bland! Needed more seasoning. The fried chicken sauce was horrible and the little gem salad was nit fresh and caused us both upset stomachs and nausea!
This last visit to Citizen Band will be my last. We were assured twice after very long waits that our orders were en route. All the while, people who were seated after we had placed our orders were receiving their food. The table next to us had eaten through appetizers, main course and dessert. That's how long we waited. After hunting down our waitress and asking where our food was, we were told a third time that it was coming. Asking to speak with the manager yields very little as apparently he was behind the stove himself--we couldn't have our complaint delay our meal any further. To top it off, the food wasn't worth the wait. To be fair, though, having an insane wait time as your appetizer can turn even the finest dish sour.
I'd recommend everyone go here! The food is impeccable!
We always have great food and fun at CB, our neighborhood gem!
I love this place. I found it from the Bon Appetit Magazine top diners list a few years back. The decor is very rad inside.
The food is great. Very fun and often progressive flavors. Something you'd expect from a more high-brow place. The prices are also great; and the service is pretty nice as well.
I've recommended this place a few times and always had great feedback.
I chose "Citizen's Band" restaurant based on a listing I found in my Palace Hotel room. (I cannot remember if it was "Where" magazine or not.) Citizen's Band was recommended as having wonderful fried chicken, which it does!
However, my husband and I were a little uncomfortable with the neighborhood; the restaurant sits diagonally across from a leather apparel store (and I don't mean Western wear). Also, the people walking up and down the streets were a little questionable.
The food, though, was great! Fried chicken was superb and risotto and tuna very good. French fries were among the best we've ever tasted!
Hey there,
I went to Citizen's Band on a date and had never seen it before, but it is a precious gem. The Mac-n-Cheese onion ring tower is delicious to share as a starter. I had the cheeseburger with an egg and carmelized onions which was simply delicious. Great casual dinner option!
Food was ordinary. Not what I was expecting. Staff friendly and service was good. Decent wine list.
Great place, was easy to find, service was awesome. Had the steak, it was delicious and very moist.
However, it is kind of a whole in the wall and comes off as a bit of a dive, especially since they share a bathroom with the club/bar next door. So I wouldn't bring parents there.
But the food was great and everything seemed clean. If you aren't too up tight, would definitely recommend.
The dishes at Citizens Band are cross the line comfort food. That line is the limit of how much butter and deep-fat frying is enjoyable. Something was off tasting in the batter, making the tradeoff of delicious for fats wasn't worth it.
Mac and Cheese w/ Onion Rings on top were delish! Burger and fries were good. Strawberry Lemonade w/ Vodka could've had a bit more vodka, but it was still a delicious and refreshing beverage.
I already know what I'm going to order the next time I visit- I can't wait to try the Fried Chicken and Poutine.
