Citizen Public House Ratings and Reviews
Got the filet tacos which were not too bad. The flatbread seemed old, the tzitziki was oily and not very flavorful and the hummus was not very good either. 4 of us tried it, including a chef and a couple good cooks and they all agreed.
Drinks were good, and the seating was good.
Paper covering on dining room tables is a bit inconsistent with the general feel of the place and town. Seemed cheap.
So, decent tacos, bad flatbread, 7 drinks
At $114, is not my idea of money well spent.
Such a great dining experience. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Our cocktails were creative and complex. The restaurant was clean and had just the right lighting level. The banquet seating wasn't too close like you normally find it. The menu was just the length with the right amount of variety but not too much. Our food was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and well presented. Overall it was a very ideal experience, no complaints here!
Ate at Citizen's Public House while in Phoenix for a conference. My wife and I enjoyed the specialty drinks, and the ambience: nice buzz of conversation, could still hear each other across the table, background music low enough that conversations not competing with music to be heard. And the food was incredible!
Terrific food in a lively setting with a very creative and delicious cocktail list to boot. The appetizer salad (presented in beautiful 'stripes', then mixed at the table) and the scallops were standouts on the solid side while tobacco-infused bitters made the Manhattan a memorable liquid part of the evening. Server was knowledgeable and fun at the same time.
Food was hit or miss. We had 2 appetizers. Only one, the fondue, was good. The cauliflower burrata was strange. Cold pasty cauliflower, we barely ate it. Chopped salad is the best thing on the menu. Scallops were good, the greens served with it were bitter and like leather. Same thing for the short ribs. Short ribs were good, but the greens were uneatable. Waiter never said anything, even though he saw we did not touch them. Won't go back.
Visiting from SF and staff at Scottsdale Andaz recommended citizens for our anniversary dinner. Took great care of us. The Cobb salad is worth the hype. My wife had scallops that were perfect. I ordered the meatloaf - as a rule, I order meatloaf if the chef has the chutzpah to put it on the menu. It too was perfect. We will be going back.
My husband's pork shank was very cured and salty. I ordered sword fish and it was bland. My daughter's scallop was ok. She ate the scallop but didn't finish all the trimmings; I guess it wasn't that delicious enough for her to "lick the plate". Waiter Paul was great! Service was excellent. We just weren't impressed with the foods. Unfortunately, this was our first time and will be our last. For $257 price tag dinner for four, we could spend it somewhere else for a more satisfying meal.
This was our 2nd time to Citizen's Public House. What we did differently was sit inside the restaurant instead of the patio. My husband had great difficulty hearing the conversation so we will sit outside when we return. Food and service were great as usual. Thanks!
The food was excellent and the only downsides were that the noise level was ridiculously loud and the wine list mediocre. We had to shout over the noise to have a conversation with our friends. There needs to be some sort of acoustic padding installed to absorb some of the noise. Other than this, we always have a great meal here.
Popular local scene. Good food, upscale crowd. Area is popular with locals and tourists but parking can be tough so give yourself extra time to make your reservation. Famous for their salad but be aware that it is deconstructed. It is then tossed at table. It's a heavy salad that can serve a few people. Make sure you like all the ingredients, there are some unusual ones.
We chose Citizen Public House for restaurant week and could NOT have been happier with our selection! The food and service was excellent. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the cool breeze as we ate. Lovely evening all round. We will definitely be back!
