Citizen Public House Ratings and Reviews
Amazing food! Service was average .. not over the top. The reservation process was a bit of a cluster but it worked out in the end. If you check in early apparently you have to keep checking back with the hostess or they won’t be able to find you at the tiny bar. Go figure.
Loved the choices on the menu and felt it was a good value for the money. Robby our waiter was very nice and helpful in explaining how dishes are prepared
Only drawback are the acoustics. It’s was very loud and hard to hear over the din. We will try sitting outside. Maybe it will be quieter
Absolutely awesome dinner. My husband and I eat out A LOT, frequenting very fine restaurants and I have to say, the short rib entree was one of the BEST meals I've ever had. I was so tempted to order a second meal to take home. Instead, I will just return soon and order it again. I've had other items on the menu previously and they were awesome as well.
Our reservations were New Year’s Eve. They did not have a phone number so we were not told the menu was fixed for the evening. This would not have been a big deal if the meal was outstanding. We decided to grab drinks before we were sat. As my husband was ordering drinks we were being sat. The bartender rudely explained to my husband that he preferred we order our drinks at the table since we were being sat. My husband wanted to order his drinks at the bar since he was already right there. The bartender refused to serve him and referred him to another bartender. Really? Our server was fine but certainly not friendly. My mother ordered the filet medium - she specifically asked for pink. The filet came out medium well. The manager agreed it was medium well and remade the filet to have it returned medium rare - red. Again, this might not seem like a big deal but when a fixed price is being set it should be right. The manager took the meal off of the bill. The manager was very kind and apologetic. Server, not so much.
The chopped salad was delicious. Desserts were mediocre and service was below mediocre. I am sure many people have fabulous experiences but unfortunately that was not our experience.
Citizens Public House's open floor plan, wrapped around a central bar, clearly emphasizes its talent in specialty cocktails. The restaurant's house made bitters and original concoctions are top rate. I'd highly recommend the Mezcacillin, with it's smoked agave syrup and blend of mezcal & tequila. Yum! The atmosphere is welcoming - with high, wood beamed ceilings and intimate lighting. Our service was great, very attentive and attuned. The restaurant does lean heavily into meats - with lots of fat backs & bacon laced options. If you're vegetarian you'll find the pickings very slim. Although super tasty, and well prepared, the portion sizes can be quite small, at a premium price. So be prepared. Loved my scallops. But three scallops for $30 was a little on the steep side. Overall, I would recommend Citizen's Public house for an wonderful evening out.
I don't know what happened with the food quality here, but it used to be SO much better! The service was amazing as always, but the food just was ok. If I'm going to go out for a meal like this, I'd rather head over to the Gladly, the food there is amazing there, which is why I'm so confused on what it's lacking here compared to there. Even the blue cheese stuffed olives for the dirty martinis didn't taste as good... they were more soggy or something. It was a little bit of a bummer, but that's ok, we still have the Gladly so we will divert there next time :)
Service is great and we had the best crab cakes and risotto I can remember having! Great food and atmosphere. Our server was attentive but not overbearing, came at the right time and when we finished dinner just let us sit and relax without coming around to make us feel like we needed to go. A must go to if you’re in town!
