Circe Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
First time visit to Circe. Over all very good rating in general. The only reason we gave this restaurant a 4 was because we felt the sides accompanying my wife’s main dish was more of a garnish than a side, otherwise the flavors were excellent and our waitress was friendly and quick to answer any questions we had about menu.
We almost paid $100/person and for that price you would expect excellent top to bottom which this was not. The girl at the door does not belong in the service industry. We had a reservation and she told us our table would be ready in 10 minutes although we were on time. She never checked back with us and avoided eye contact and we were eventually seated by a nice waiter half an hour later. Appetizers took for ever and we got our food more than an hour after we sat down. food was good but overall for the price they charge you would expect top level service which clearly they did not come close to and frankly I don't think they care to.
Asked re ingredients in certain appetizer but server hadn’t found out and wanted order - came back to tell us after order went in.... seemed to late by then
Too loud - parties near us , while only four people, were obnoxiously loud - literally had to raise voice to talk to friends
Food fair but prices expensive and not worth value
Our first time.
Over all we were happy with our evening At Circe. Especially the first courses were great and tasty.
They don't do nuts at the bar I was told ...... a first for me. Would have been nice to have a few nuts with our drink while waiting for our table. Just good practice I find.
We'll go back and hopefully find nice peanuts at bar this time. :)
Food was good, not great considering the entree tuna special was $40.
Living in NYC we don't mind paying for great food and terrific ambience. But when a special of the night is about $10 above the regular entree prices, the waiter should probably mention that.
Other than that, it was a bustling bar scene, lots of birthday singing and a late nite club scene upstairs
We are from Boston and we meet dear friends from CT. Circe is our go-to for Sunday brunch. We can sit and talk for hours with drinks and a yummy brunch never feeling rushed. You can chat comfortably without shouting. Chic atmosphere and waiters are always friendly and efficient . Would love to try for dinner!
We had great fun at Circe celebrating our husbands’ October birthdays. The food was yummy and in generous portions. It has a steep stairway with safe railings to a loft where it is pretty quiet, but the downstairs has a bar on one side, dining on the other side which seemed a bit noisier. We would recommend going upstairs if you prefer a quiet spot. The swordfish and meatloaf were huge hits at our table as well as the Charcuterie board. David was an excellent waiter.
Had the tuna special: sushi grade ahi tuna pepper crusted and seared on the outside, raw inside; amazing but a little expensive at $40. Everything else on the menu is around $30 a plate. Very interesting appetizers: we had the lobster risotto which was served nice and hot with a dollop of cold avacado ice cream in the center.. very good and unique. Would certainly go back. It was a great spot for an anniversary dinner with my wife.
The food was great. We ordered off the regular menu (we did not choose any of the specials) and everything was very good. One person got the Bibb Salad and reported that it was a bit too vinegary, but Lobster Risotto, Mussels, and Tuna Pizza were all fantastic. There was a new, inventive cocktail menu as well.
The only problem was that it took a very long time for our food to come out. It was a Friday night at about 8pm, but it was well over an hour (about 75 minutes) between our cheese plate and our dinners (all small plates). We all had to be up early Saturday morning and did not intend to be out quite so late Friday night.
No bread was served - which was a bit odd. I often can tell the quality of a restaurant based on their bread.
Excellent salads, large, shareable portions. Entrees are also large, but probably not shareable. They serve a “cone” of bread slices, different varieties, fresh and tasty. Will provide a dish of olive oil (add pepper if desired). Bar drinks are likewise well prepared and not overly priced.
Service was very good, very attentive, but we never felt rushed.
All around fine experience.
My guests and I were very interested in trying this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The menu has a very tempting selection, the wait staff was excellent as were the drinks. The food was incredible. The lobster risotto with Avocado ice cream, is excellent as well.
All of us would definitely come back and highly recommend.
We had reservations. The hostess greeted us right away and seated us promptly. She was very pleasant.
We were greeted quickly by the server. She was pleasant as well. Not overly, but very efficient.
We had the lobster risotto with avocado ice cream. This was amazing. I almost wanted to order another one for my dinner.
I had the lobster and crab caramella. It was basically a lobster & crab ravioli. The pasta was fabulous but you could not detect any sign of crab or lobster inside. Unfortunately, all you could taste was the cheese. It was very tasty, just no sign of crab or lobster.
My husband had the special which was swordfish with scallops. His was divine. Although it was a little steep at $45.
The wine was great.
All in all it was a great experience. Next time I'd like to sample some of their handcrafted cocktails.
Great place for a date. Met my date at the bar for a drink before being seated in a nice table in the back of the restaurant. The waitress was amazing and provided great suggestions for dinner and wine combinations. The scallops and salmon were fantastic. Overall a great experience we will definitely be back.
Everyone in my group was really very impressed - I gave it 4 stars only because I reserve 5 for something truly exceptional - but Circe was really very good. I am usually very suspicious of anyplace that mentions "comfort food" anywhere in its description - but Circe was far out on the creative end of comfort. I had an excellent piece of swordfish - which I think is very unusual these days. The service was friendly, efficient, knowledgeable, and unobtrusive. Only negative is that it is a little noisy - much more so near the bar. And it has a long narrow layout, so there is a bit of traffic going past the tables most of the time.
the food was great, but the service was slow. We had a reservation and still waited for 30 minutes - hostess basically forgot about us... and then the food took forever. The martini was awesome and the bartenders were good. Wait staff seemed in the weeds....
Second time here. Made a reservation several days in advance. Arrived early, and obviously weren't seated right away as it was Saturday evening. Totally understand. However, I'm pretty sure the hostess simply forgot about us, because there were at least five open tables within view of my spot at the bar (and several more as we walked to our table finally) and we had to ask twice to be seated (finally got seated 15 minutes after the reservation time and only because the manager was at the desk and we mentioned the delay to him. Twice.). Several similarly sized parties arrived after us and were seated before. Food is pretty good although a little pricey for what you get and the kitchen was backed up so it took almost 45 minutes from order to entree.
Had the same server the second time as the first and he was much more personable the second.
My date is a J&W graduate chef, btw, so we get how things work. The delay in seating (as the hostess stared at her screen raptly, trying desperately to not make eye contact or acknowledge our presence) combined with the slow service was a little off-putting.
Not sure if we'll go back. There are plenty of other options in Providence.
