Circe Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Decided to try Circe after seeing the menu offered on restaurant week. The rest itself was nice, laid back, felt like a great place to unwind after a long week. The food was average, I had the stuffed artichoke which was very blah, the breading was caked on the top with not much flavor. The sea scallops were cooked very good, the meatloaf and mashed potatoes hat my girlfriend got had what we were told was quail egg shells in them, the manager kind of brushed it off rather than apologizing for the egg shells. The desert, chocolate mousse, had hair on it which was replaced, the manager offered to take that portion off the bill. When my friend let the waitress know she told the manager she said the whole meal would be comped, the manager came over and said “I didn’t say I would take the meal off” my girlfriend said I said that portion being the desert, he said oh oh yes I can do that. Anyhow they took $6 off the bill and no worry’s or trying to go out of his way to please the guest on the managers part. 3 of us went and 3 of us will not be returning to this place!
Once again, Carlo and his staff delivered a fantastic meal to our table. The service was excellent, as it always seems to be, no matter how busy they are. As with our previous visits, all three courses that we each ordered were delicious, expertly prepared, artfully presented, and reasonably priced. My Manhattan was a perfect cocktail to start the evening off, and I was delighted that we were able to sit at our favorite table in the front window. Can't wait to dine again at Circe, my favorite down-city restaurant!!!
It was our first time at Circe. We came for brunch before a matinee at PPAC. We arrived early for our reservation, coming from MA, and we told them we were in no hurry. Our waiter accommodated us and we had a leisurely, delicious brunch. Hope to go back at some point.
We frequent Circe often and have always had a wonderful time. This time we asked if we could sit upstairs as it was the only spot in the place we had never sat. The restaurant accommodated and we were thrilled. We sat by the front window and loved the view and the snow. We ordered our usual drinks..the best mojitos! We ordered a charcuterie board and it was amazing, everything on it was fresh and delicious. We had the bacon wrapped tenderloin, and short ribs, both were tender and delicious. I always get the creme brûlée for dessert and this one did not disappoint. Our server, Taylor, was attentive, friendly And we appreciate she was coming upstairs just for our table.
We love coming to Circe each time. Thank you so much for our upstairs table. We look forward to our next visit.
4 of 5 meals were great. Seafood dish was surprisingly bland, lacked seasoning and serving bass is fine if the skin is crispy. It wasn't.
Timing was poor; 2 of the 5 of us got their meals 15 min before the other 3. Not a good thing.
However, I would go again. Management was very good at addressing problems.
Good cocktails and the mushroom pasta was great.
Circe is a beautiful restaurant with appropriately priced and delicious dishes. The bacon wrapped angus tenderloin was cooked to perfection. The burrata was wonderfully creamy and fresh. The only down note was the lobster mashed potatoes which were expensive and a bit dry and bland. But it couldn't diminish the wonderful meal in a stunning environment. Highly recommended.
Good solid restaurant. Something on the menu to please everyone, food was very good. Our waiter was excellent. The bread pudding we split for dessert was the best we'd ever had (on waiters recommendation) - not normally bread pudding people. The portions were big, yet delicious.
We had a wonderful dinner . . . We had a very nice young waiter who was so informative and descriptive about the evening's entrees. The location was perfect for us as we were going to PPAC to see a play. I also loved the décor -- very white . . . so uplifting and modern. I had the lamb lollipops -- GREAT! then I had the wild mushroom Bolognese -- GREAT!! my friends had the swordfish special and the salmon special -- also GREAT! We shared a crème brulee special to share -- which our waiter said was very very small -- we each had about a bite and a half, which was fine by us, we just needed something sweet at the end. Everything was perfect . . . it was a bit pricey, but hey, we're worth it, right???
As is our preference, we ate at seated at the bar. The server was cordial, friendly, and efficient. To my very great surprise they had my absolute favorite Chardonnay available by the glass, namely, Mer Soleil ! I have never seen that wonderfully "oaked" Chardonnay available where we dine out the most, Boston, Newport & Providence, RI, New York City and surrounding venues. I had a wonderful braised short rib over a wonderful risotto and asparagus bed while my wife had a salad and what we were told was their most widely requested appetizer, lamb "lolly pops"(called something else on their menu). The bread was served in specialty cone with olive oil for dipping. All in all, the meal was exceptional.
Service is always fantastic, treat you like a family (in a good way, lol). Food was excellent! We had a couple small plates and an entree, perfect amount of food. We happened to be going to PPAC for a show and the Valet told us that they would hold our car until after the show. And since PPAC is a short block away, it was perfect, we didn't have to worry or pay for parking.
Reserved a table for me and my kids for a birthday dinner. We were seated right away at a table that looked like it was sitting in the middle of a walkway to the back of the restaurant.
It was in the area of the bar which was also troublesome being with two young children.
Also please keep in mind that we passed empty tables at the front of the restaurant and away from the bar as we walked in.
After asking the hostess for another table we were seated right next to a busy service area near the restrooms which at any other time I would have declined and left the restaurant if another table was not available.
Service was good but food was mediocre at best. No half portions allowed for children either.
Even though I had a good conversation with the owner it was already too late. No free dessert could improve the experience.
This was our first visit to Circe, and after reading many positive reviews I was excited to try the restaurant! However, the food was hit or miss. We had several delicious dishes and a few that were underwhelming. The roasted beet salad was very tasty, scallops were delicious, and the mushroom bolognese was quite good. Unfortunately the stuffed artichoke was very disappointing, and the meatloaf seemed to be more breaded filling than meat. The service was excellent, although being a Thursday night it was quite empty in the restaurant.
After trying to get into the local "no reservations" restaurant and facing a 2 1/2 hr wait at 5:45 p.m. (no thanks), our party of 4 made a last minute reservation through Open Table at Circe. None of us had ever eaten here, but we liked the menu and thought we'd try it out. Once we checked in with the host (we later learned he was the owner), we were able to get a couple of seats at the very busy bar. We were quickly greeted by the friendly bartender and gave her our order. The bar was large and roomy. Decor was updated and fresh with white painted wood, granite & stone. The restaurant has tables upstairs as well as downstairs. Much warmer than what the picture shows. We were seated just a few minutes after our reservation time at a nice banquet table at the front of the restaurant. Our personable server, Dave, came over shortly after we were seated to offer drink refills and go over the specials. Our group ordered the lamb, scallops, and fruitti di mare and a side of lobster mashed potatoes. All were delicious and fresh. We shared a creme brule for dessert, which was a bit on the small side, but yummy. All in all, a very good experience. We will definitely go back.
we continue going to Circe every time we go to a play in Providence. Must be something wrong with us. The food is great, we have the same waiter each evening and the service continue to get better. It's like being away from home and you're welcomed back. It's like you never left.
Everything was perfect. We had a very good waiter (John) who paid special attention to us and all his tables. His food suggestions were perfect. We had a great experience. Went back the next day just for cocktails at the bar and again it was a very rewarding experience. A must place to go when we are in Providence
Food was good/great. Appetizer of prosciutto was delicious. Calamari was sranard. Steak was a decent size, cooked & seasoned well. Bread pudding was yummy. Ate with 3 other guests, 2/4 LOVED their food. Ambience was great. Loved the lightning & upstairs dining. I would return, especially later at night. Bar was nice.
I picked Circe based on positive Open Table reviews. The ambiance and service were good but unfortunately the food was not very good. Specifically, the salmon was bland and overcooked, the filet was overcooked on the edges and still too raw inside for medium, the pasta for the lobster/crab caramelle was too thick and the fries were soggy. Overall, very disappointing.
We’ve eaten at Circe numerous times and it’s always fantastic. Sean is an incredible waiter and we always have a memorable experience. Great choice of cocktails, nice wine list, reasonably priced and creative cuisine. Always willing to accommodate picky eaters. Can’t wait to eat here again!!
Started with salad - I had the beets and my wife the Boston Bibb. Both were fresh and flavorful. We both had fish for the entree - both were specials. I had the salmon on a bed of decadent lobster mash potato and several spears of asparagus. She had the seared ahi tuna on a bed of roasted vegetables. Both were marvelous. We ordered the chocolate brownie with gelato - a simple but gluttonous standout. Michaela was our attentive server - graciously accommodating. We were seated near the door - a little too busy between the foot traffic at the hostess station and a boisterous party of 4 who were a little too close for comfort. Next time we'll ask for a table upstairs to keep the madding crowd at bay. Overall, a great dining experience.
Had the best dinner ever! Our server, Ahmed was outstanding and very personable. Wanted to try something new and I came across this hidden gem on a Thursday night. Pretty busy at the bar but got sat right away. Service was fantastic and I highly recommend requesting Ahmed and the duck entree. Definitely will be back for an after work cocktail.
