The food and service were outstanding. The noise level was a little bit loud. It seems like some patrons were trying to impress other people in the restaurant by raising their voices so other guests could hear their conversation.
Food was beyond exceptional and service by Matty was friendly and attentive. Rare find for the area. Will definitely go back. Oh, and that lemon cheesecake with caramelized banana. Wow.
We went there Friday night to meet up with some old friends. It was a busy nght( a program at Ferguson Center). However, we were not rushed or hurried in any way. It was a very nice dinner and an excellent meal.
I have developed the habit to treat myself with one really great dinner whenever I come to the Hampton Roads area on business. My default favorite is Circa. Great food, solid and interesting wine list, genuine humans that love food and drink. I have never had even an off-nominal dish or wine. I am an infrequent regular!
This is a great place for a date night. Cozy but not crowded. Service is friendly. Wine and food are excellent.
Fabulous food and friendly courteous service. We'll definitely go back.
Always a treat to dine at Circa 1918!
Phenomenal as usual. Brought family and they loved it just as much as we do. Such a great restaurant in our neighborhood!
This spot is truly surprising. Lovely little eatery with creative menu and excellent preparation. Only flaw was the draftiness on a cold Saturday afternoon.
We will definitely be back, when it’s warmer!
Went for dinner before a concert. Service was spot on, attentive, helpful, friendly. The wine selection was good and we enjoyed a very nice glass of syrah. What was lacking, and the reason for the 3 stars, was the food.Though everything was beautifully presented and well prepared, the flavors were underwhelming.
Per our server's recommendation, for appetizer we had the flash fried oysters. They were crispy and perfectly cooked but tasted like anything fried, with a little too much salt. We envied the neighboring tables french fries, which might have been a better mouth value for the calories.
For entree, we were highly recommended the bison meatloaf. It was a little odd, topped with cheese and served over what tasted exactly like bottled Thai sweet chili garlic sauce. The flavor of the meat was lacking complexity and was on the bland side, though it was perfectly cooked and an attractive looking dish.
For our second entree, we had the rockfish. This was definitely the tastiest, most complex of our choices. A bite with all of the toppings proved delicious and it was definitely something I would order again.
We ended with the lemon cheesecake with caramelized bananas. It was very tasty and also perfectly prepared.
I'd definitely try the restaurant again if in the area but would try other dishes and perhaps rely less on recommendations.
My friends and I loved Circa 1918! We found it on Open Table, and booked it because of the great reviews. We were not disappointed-the food was great, the service was great, and we loved the ambience. We would absolutely go back there again.
I was very much looking forward to dining at Circa 1918, b/c it was highly recommended by another couple. Unfortunately, I was not terribly impressed. We started with the parmesan bread, which was underwhelming to say the least... I do not get what they were going for. We enjoyed the beet salad, which was really flavorful and had a different take from a typical beet salad. For the main course I had the scallops, which had sand in them. Admittedly, I am spoiled as there is an amazing restaurant around the corner from my home and the owner/chef is Greek, so does extraordinary seafood, particularly scallops. My boyfriend had the lamb burger, which he felt had too much salt to make it edible. We finished with the cheese cake, which we liked (my boyfriend more than me). Given the fact that we drove from Norfolk, I would not recommend going out of your way to get here. However, you could tell by the crowd that it was a local favorite. I should note the staff was excellent and extremely professional. Three people managed to keep things flowing in the packed restaurant and deserve credit for that extraordinary feat!
Amazing food and service. Everything from the moment we walked through the door was as it should be. This is a must try for anyone Who finds themselves in the area. We will be absolutely dining here again.
Consistently good food and drinks. It’s why we keep coming back. A bigger dining room would be great to give us more room between tables and at the bar. But the narrow shape gives a real city feel to the place. Since our home location lacks good, non-chain restaurants (Carrollton/Smithfield), we feel lucky to have this gem to come to. Wish there were more like it.
Hands down the best restaurant in Hampton Roads - keeps getting better!
This is the best restaurant in the Hampton Roads Area that we have discovered. We have been half a dozen times so far and already have future reservations. We love taking guests here, it’s NEVER a disappointment. Service, drinks and food are always above and beyond.
Fantastic experience overall! Absolutely loved the variety on the menu and everything was wonderful! Highly recommend.
I love this place. Absolutely delicious - the perfect date night destination.
Circa was marvelous we intend to make it our regular dining spot! I can’t recommend it highly enough!
Circa is the best food in Hampton Roads. Every time we go we love what we get. EVERY TIME!
Terrific menu. Great food. Tuna and Bison Meatloaf were wonderful. Octopus was a bit chewy. Waiter forgot my Iced Tea and my wife's entree. He needed to be reminded. Not everyone can take an order without writing it down. Look forward to the Summer when we can sit outside on the sidewalk. There were a lot of unique items on the menu.
The food is always inventive and fabulous and Kip is always welcoming and attentive.
Interesting menu with great service; couldn't ask for more. Blueberry martini was a big hit with my wife.
As always, Circa delivered great food, service, and romantic atmosphere
This is our go to restaurant in the area for special occasions! They have delicious craft cocktails and will even whip up specials if you tell them your tastes. The food is consistently well-crafted and well-cooked without being too frou-frou. They always offer the best suggestions for wine pairing and the service is wonderful. I love the atmosphere of this tiny Hilton Village gem!
My friends and I were enjoying an evening with dinner and a show at the Ferguson. I have been to Circa 1918 many times and have always enjoyed the quality and service; this was a first time experience for them. Now it is a new favorite for them too! I had the Lamb Chetta, my friends had the steak and pork chop special along with salads and drinks. Everything was cooked perfectly and Kip ensured we had an exceptional experience.
The service was excellent and the food was well prepared with a interesting selection of entrees from which to choose.
Circa is my wife and I's go-to place for a nice date or anniversary dinner. Service is always excellent, the atmosphere is casual and cozy and the food is the best in the area hands down.
We had the Bison meatloaf, it was amazing. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. My only real complaint is that it gets loud in the fairly small restaurant, which makes it hard to hear your dinner companion.
Second time my wife and I have been there. The food and service are amazing. Well worth a try.
Our first time at Circa 1918. Nice little restaurant with an urban vibe. Long and narrow layout, similar to some areas of NYC and has the feel of the old Six Bar Bistro that closed down in Phoebus. Would recommend to anyone who loves good food and company (not too loud to talk comfortably). The bar area looks like a great place to meet friends or make new ones.
Thursday night special 3 course meal was really outstanding; super great food, good service and a real price performer.
Sorry to say there were no vegetables served with a three course meal on Valentine’s Day. Too much sodium and fat! As it was my first time there, i was very disappointed that it was practically elbow to elbow with other patrons. The couple next to us had butts in their faces from the bar. They barely talked to each other because they looked like they felt as crowded as we were - not good on Valentine’s. No need to post this just let the restaurant know. Thanks.
Lovely Valentine's Day dinner; we had a four course meal without the optional wine pairing. By the end of the meal both of us were full. Delicious, well crafted and presented food. Pricey, but you get what you pay for - Circa is no Cheddar's or Applebees. I also love how intimate the restaurant is!
This was a pleasant surprise for the missus and I. I'd heard from my coworkers that this was a quaint, hip, romantic restaurant to try. While the prices are on the higher side, the food selection is excellent. Nuanced choices with more on the menu than just your typical fare, we delved in gladly. My wife chose the venison and I chose the steak. The wine - a Chilean- I paired with was, sadly, a poor choice. I prefer a more robust, dry red to pair with my steak. However, that was my fault as i didn't stick with my usual. Both entrees were cooked to perfection and would rival celebrity chef dishes. Our waiter was quick, attentive and very thorough. We procured reservations ahead of time, and I'm glad we did! It was busy without being overly packed. We arrived 30 mins early but we're seated at our table immediately. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will return, soon. Thank you for a wonderful, romantic dining experience.
My husband and I did a date night at Circa1819. we loved the cozy atmosphere, it reminded us of being back in Europe. We went on a Tuesday it was five dollar wine night which was a nice surprise. We started off with a wonderful appetizer and each had an entrée, all three of our food selections were absolutely tantalizingly delicious. We enjoyed our visit and will return!
The food and service was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Romantic atmosphere, small menu= unique creative cuisine, service is really good, not your typical restaurant. The have Chefs...not cooks, you wont be disappointed!!
The duck was amazing and the lamb burger perhaps one of the best burgers ever!
As usual, Circa 1918 does not disappoint. The quality of the food, the attention, and the experience always leaves me greatly satisfied.
