Wonderful! Our favorite restaurant while visiting Savannah. Service was amazing! Went twice in five days. Had a lovely chat with the bartender who made a great Old fashioned.
Our server, Clint, was entertaining and informative. The Coquille St. Jacques was delicious and the tuna special was perfection. Topping it off with chocolate mousse made for a great evening! Our best meal in Savannah.
Phenomenal food with a friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. A bit pricey for standard date night maybe, but well worth it for a special night out!
They were very accommodating and had a wonderful atmosphere! An air of elegance, but not stuffy or pretentious.
All around very enjoyable meal. Mary did an excellent job serving and the food was very good.
Awesome service and great food!! Always consistently good!!
Food and service was great as always. I would highly recommend and suggest requesting downstairs seating when making reservations.
Would give it 6 stars, if I could. Food and service was top notch.
Great place...will definitely be back!
We sat in a romantic downstairs room, it looked like a wine cellar and was perfect for a date night.
Dinner was very good. Dessert was OK. Ambiance could be better. Seemed like the wait staff had an off night.
My wife enjoyed the catch of the day and I enjoyed the duck breast, both skillfully prepared.
For dessert we shared a slice of Black Forest cake, which seemed a bit on the dry side and perhaps lacking flavor. The flavor may be a matter of preference.
The waiter/waitress pair that served us Monday were both very friendly, but made mistake after mistake. We were brought the wrong order, then the check for another table - before we were done with our dinner and without being offered a dessert menu! Meanwhile our water glasses remained empty for extended periods after dinner was served.
Secondarily it was disappointing that there was not decaf coffee to pair with dessert. (Not something I'd normally mention, but by this point there was a bit of a list). When I asked for a specific bourbon given the lack of coffee, I was brought a different kind. The waitress acknowledged that it was not what was requested and made sure to let me know that if I didn't like it she would take it back - fair. I simply wish I was asked *before* it was poured and brought to the table.
Lastly just know that it's a small space and you will hear everything said at the tables around you and vice-versa. We were seated at a small table with a long shared booth on one side and chair on the other. The space between tables was close enough that the woman next to my wife (booth side) couldn't get out without sliding along the sides of the tables in that side-shuffle people do when trying to get to their seat in a movie theater or on an airplane.
Perhaps my expectations were too high after reading the positive reviews, or perhaps it was just a fluke night - either way, at a final bill (including tip) of almost $100 for two dinners, one drink, and one dessert, we were not positively impressed by anything except the main course.
We had an great evening in this nice restaurant. If we come back to Savannah than we book this restaurant again. Greets from Anneke and Rudy The Netherlands.
As a chef of the industry for decades, we visit Savannah often for family, I research where we dine thoroughly. The experience at Circa was DISAPPOINTING period. The website menu was not up to date, then when we arrived with a party of 6 there was over 5 items they were out of on the menu only to find out after 4 had been ordered. Wanted to leave at this point but...
How can a chef not know to have the 2 pate cold items on the menu plus many others? Onion soup, F Fries & moules were good. The other appetizers and entrees for all 6 were just OK for a $400 bill. Morel mushrooms way over priced for value $21 and the desserts were not up to standards not even French standards:) Duck breast entree sad, chef admitted, tried to redo then no charge. Wow MERCI!
Sad part was, the management was sitting in the dinning room enjoying dinner. Not once did anyone try to make things correct with our party. No offer of a complimentary app, dessert, or discount. The server was cordial, merci. Then collected the automatic gratuity charge and handed me the managers business card with no direct email, so here I must state the dirty laundry onto to social media. Why not make things correct before a guest leaves your hospitality. This is why we do what we should be doing each and every day.
FABULOUS French Bistro. Nicer than any I've been to in Paris Very attentive service
We have mixed feelings on this bar/restaurant. The bar has a separate entrance from the restaurant, and we went there first (early). Loved the bar. Server was very friendly and accomodating. Loved the French ambience and music. Got to sit at a bar table that was actually separated out for just two, so it was a bit quieter and cozier. Very large and interesting selection of wines by the glass. Then we had an awkward transition to our table. You either need to go past the staff areas or outside and back in. Decor is also very French and we liked that too. But high ceilings and it was a busy night. Very loud and hard to talk. Our dinner server was friendly and good about accommodating our food intolerances. My husband liked his meal. I had mixed feelings. Absolutely loved my beet salad starter, but then found my main course fish to be not what I expected from the description, and very overcooked and didn't care for the mix of flavors. Would definitely return to the bar, but probably not the restaurant. There are better offerings in Savannah these days.
Food and service were outstanding and everyone was so helpful and seemed to love their job. Lovely restaurant and one of my favorites in Savannah. We will be back!
My wife's Tuna special was excellent while my red snapper was thin and dry - certainly not worth the $30 price tag. Also, they did not have any pate for an appetizer (surprising for a French restaurant). Our server was very good but restaurant was very busy (Wednesday eve) and it looked like they could have used another server for all the tables.
I researched this restaurant to have my birthday celebration at, drove from Sarasota, Florida to spend a few days in Savannah. We invited our friends from Beaufort to join us too.
Sadly, the restaurant had a limited menu due to the loss of one of their freezers.
Food we ordered was good but all four dinners came out warm, not hot. We did not return the dinners, ate and had to leave for our respective drives home.
My husband asked if there was something they did to celebrate a birthday, they said they’d be happy to put a candle in any dessert we ordered.
We just thought they could have put a little more effort in making our evening a little more special, instead we felt like we inconvenienced them because they had a freezer problem.
The food industry is all about making sure customers become repeat customers and to insure that customers give great recommendations to friends and families.
Maybe Circa feels they have enough loyal customers and don’t need any more.
In Savannah we were having difficulty finding a place that was not loud, this fit the bill. They had a special of red snapper which rivaled the snapper I had in Belgium. Unfortunately my wife's veal while very tasty was room temperature. After 3 days of meals being sent back and not eating our meals at the same time we let the server know and my wife tried to eat the veal but it just didn't cut it The server let the manager know who did not charge us for the meal and was very gracious and apologetic. It is a shame as both the snapper and veal tasted wonderful. I was satisfied also with the response for something that did not go correctly.
Excellent food serve by professionals. Menu selections were excellent
Had the special tuna dish and duck off the menu. Both were excellent
Waiter was Christen and he was very knowledgeable
Excellent all around. Delicious and romantic dinner
We were one of the first diners in the evening at Circa 1875 and picked it because we have been so many times before. The food was good, the service excellent, the noise level moderate because of fewer people in the restaurant. My duck was underdone and came out warm not hot. While the waiter offered to have it "warmed" up - we all know what that means! With so few people in the restaurant at the time, the food should come out perfect.
We loved the pate and the wine list. Can't even remember what my husband got but it was probably steak. His food seemed to be fine.
We will go again but this is the first time we were disappointed.
Very dated menu, which I sort of expected given the restaurant’s name, but would have liked updated bistro food. Mains were tepid had to go back and wait again for their replacements.
We love this restaurant but this time it was off. Our waiter told us they were down a chef and the food reflected that.
Been going to Circa for five years. My meal came out by a server who plunked it Down in front of us and left. Our waitress never came over to check on us. I ran out of water. My half rack of lamb chops consisted of two and a half chops and a fourth bone with no meat. This cost us 38.00 for a pitiful plate of lamb chops. The managers solution was to offer a free dessert which we never eat. He wouldn't even come to our table to talk to us. He finally did after we told the waitress we were not pleased with his solution. His attitude was we are wrong and they are right. To top it off we had the discusting smell of cigarette smoke the entire time. Very disappointed with the whole night.
Lets just say, I have never had a bad experience at Circa. Its very good and very authentic and if you want a good meal then this is the place to go. It might be pricey but its worth every dollar. I had a memorable experience there and it was fairly well priced. That is why I will return many different times. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Enough said. I will add that I always sit downstairs which makes it a little better each time.
Steak was burnt and we never received our vegetables. Very expensive for what little we received.
Will not go back.
This was our first visit to Circa 1875. It had been highly recommended by friends. It was a special occasion (Valentine Dinner). Our waitress was exceptional. She was friendly and knowledgeable regarding the specials and menu. However, we did wait quite a long time for our entrees as well as the dessert that we shared. The restaurant was crowded and it seemed that the tables were very close together. I don't know if this was normal or due to the holiday, but it created a rather noisy environment and was not as cozy or romantic as hoped. The food was very good. Our appetizer (Coquilles St. Jacque) was exceptional. My entrée was Monk Fish and I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the Duck entrée and was not too happy as it was tough & chewy. The beet salad was good, although we have had better. We had a chocolate cake dessert that was very good and surprisingly light. All in all, a very nice dinner and, as we are locals, we will try it again on a regular night and not a holiday.
Lamb was wonderful. Ambiance is off chart.
Quite traditional French cuisine plus some locally inspired dishes. Presentation of the food is okay - but everyone who knows French food also knows that it is less about the presenation (that's an American thing) but more about the taste and the ingredients.
Liked the wine list, plus the server made great recommendations. They definetely know their job better than at similar ranked places like the The Olde Pink House or The Grey when it Comes to Service and skills/ knowledge with the service staff. Prices average among these type of restaurants in Savannah.
For those reasons, if you go there or when I return (I will!) go for the French dishes from starter to entree and Dessert. Don't order anything with chicken or duck, get those at a southern restaurant in the city. Don't order US or NZ wines, but ask the waiter for French wine recommendations accompanying your food.
The food is always flawless. The waitstaff is perfection. For a quiet and romantic spot, ask to sit downstairs. If you are looking for classic French bistro food, look no farther.
This was a spectacular place to eat. Excellent food, excellent food, and very attentive staff. If you want to impress a date or a significant other take them to this restaurant. There is also a bar area that seemed great and they have spectacular desserts
Circa has a wonderful ambiance. Food was delicious and our waiter, Steve, was a perfect professional. We recommend this restrauant highly!
Everything was phenomenal! The food was fantastic, and our server was excellent.
Authentic Paris Bistro/Cafe. Many couples relaxing and enjoying dinners. Our service was wonderful and our server made our evening. A warm, cozy restaurant that transports you to Europe. The brook trout was delicious and we followed it with a fabulous lavendar Cream brule. Wonderful!
Overall it was good. Servers were very friendly and attentive. Appetizers and salads were very good. Entrees were ok (lamb chops) (yellowfin tuna with pesto and ratatouille...an odd combination). Desserts were great..creme brûlée and beignets. Great music and very romantic; I loved the atmosphere. We dined downstairs in wine cellar. I liked upstairs better, but it’s a little noisier with bar next door. I would definitely go again!
My wife & I think this is the best restaurant in Savannah
We enjoyed a beautiful variety of French wines as well as a four coarse meal that was equally bright and delicious. Visually lovely the interior design catches your eye and inspire conversation. Our wait staff was stellar and very knowledgeable. Great experience
We love this place! Dinner and service were excellent, as usual. We were going to the symphony after, and did not feel rushed at all even though we only had about an hour and fifteen minutes from the time we entered. We will be back for certain!
Always great food and service. Lively scene. Fun place to to have dinner!
They took us to the basement room
Not why I wanted to go there
