The food was excellent. The restaurant was quite loud and our table was right up against the reception area so that made it even louder with guests coming in and out but the food was superb and made up for any inconvenience of our table location. The service was excellent!
Excellent! We have been several times and have not been disappointed. The ambiance is wonderful, the service is better, and the food is even better. We really enjoyed the Mussels (could be a meal for two...). Would definitely recommend for special occasions, but also anytime. They also have a nice bar...be sure to check the hours.
Another awesome dinner here—best steak frites in town!
One if not the best restaurants in Savannah. Excellent service and food that is consistent every visit.
Absolutely wonderful, as usual. Come every year, exceptional, service, food and atmosphere. Beautiful ambience, very welcoming, just like family!
Supposedly french, nothing is french here. Forgot to peel onions and to dice them in moules marinières, which were not marinières at all.
The lamb was not cooked at all, confused rosé and raw!
Salade frisée was “cooked” and the lardons were not chopped in small pieces .
The sea bass could have been ok, but when accompanied with slices of fried onions , red over cooked potatoes with the skin in a tomato sauce , the taste was bad.
The cheeses: a trio of chaumes, “french goat” and bleu d’auvergne, were a total disappointment, served with strawberries purée, was it that??? Never seen that in France.
The worst was the “crêpe suzette” literally looks like a frozen lasagna bathed in a “sauce” with unknown stuff (look like white egg or white ice cream’, this is such a delicacy usually.
Wine , water okay.
Very tired of these restaurants that pretend to be french and overprice their dishes, they ruin the image of the real french cuisine , which is delicate and tasty and not synonymous of expensive.
I am so disappointed for my Americans friends to see and experience that.
This restaurant could be so much better, in France they would severely judge him and it will not exist longtime!! One solution is training the chef to cook.
Very unhappy! It may have been good in the past, but not what we have seen now. Never written a review but had to tell enough is enough of tricking customers of french dishes that are not!
This was my first visit to Circa 1875 but it will not be my last. All of the dishes we ordered ranging from sea bass to the ribeye were nicely prepared and well enjoyed. Our group was seven people and the service was outstanding.
Enjoyed a few specialty cocktails, tasty escargot, and great beet salad. Nice decor, cozy bar, attentive staff.
I loved the French ambiance and was delighted with the menu. We had the cassoulet with duck confit which tastes like the French do it. So authentic and satisfying. Our waiter didn't know the history of the art and decor and antiques which was a little disappointing. He didn't seem to care about it much.
Wine list good and all other aspects worth the visit.
The food was creative and simply spectacular. The service was superb. The atmosphere was magical. A real gem in Savannah!
Nice food, nary a teenaged waiter in sight, and a great atmosphere.
we went here for my husbands birthday, simply fabulous!!
The only reason I did not give full 5 stars were the desserts were a let down. Dinner was wonderful, we had the pate, cassoulet, and wahoo. The beignets were dense and burnt and we were told the sorbet was to be coconut, which is my all time favorite and when it came is was boring mango. Our server Michael was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive.
Pub and then the food side. Superior! Best waiter all week.
Great trout! Loved the ambiance. Enjoy the French atmosphere
First visit to Savannah and as well to Circa 1875 and would return soon and would recommend to all!
Pretty place. Felt pressured by the waiter to order an appetizer or salad which we did not want. Each of us ordered a chicken dish. The gravy with potatoes and haricot vert was delicious. However, the chicken breast was dry. We shared an order of profiteroles for dessert, a very large portion - enough for 3 or 4 people to share! That was quite good. We would not dine there again. The other dishes may have been good.
Food was tasty but not quite as hot as I would have liked. Hostess was rather sullen and not at all welcoming. Decor was nice, waiter was okay. Would probably go back.
Service was excellent. Loved the creme brûlée with lavander!
Our server was delightful and helpful. The menu was a bit limited but interesting. The bread basket contained a delicious assortment of bread. Our salads (roasted beet and mine was a roasted pear with Gorgonzola) were very tasty. We both had seafood entrees (Ahi tuna on ratatouille and my wife had sea bream served table side). Both were well done and the ratatouille was one of the best I have ever had. They didn't have the Italian wine I requested but we enjoyed the Hoopla from Napa valley instead. The meal finished with a very nice and not overdone chocolate cake. I was impressed by how quickly our orders materialized. Over all the church embellishments and religious decor didn't put us off and we would return in a heart beat.
Not as good as usual
Great food and wonderful service! We are from Florida but the next time we are in Savannah, we will be sure to have dinner at Circa 1875!
Great food and service in this well appointed spot.
I have to say, the Cassolet Maison was amazing. Thank you Chef. It was all that I thought it would be. I have been coming there since you opened up. The experience was awesome.
Excellent all away around
A slight mix up with the reservation time, however we were still seated immediately. Being it was our anniversary we had champagne (Laurent-Perrier) and a Bordeaux (Chateau Lamothe Castera) with the meal which were both excellent. Michael, our waiter, was very informative in regards to the menu and presented us with a meal of boar and the sea bass which were both three notches above excellent. Michael informed my wife at the time she ordered the sea bass it would be presented with the bone in and immediately offered to de-bone it for her at table side, which he did. We will always remember this experience and fine dining establishment, if we are ever in Savannah again you can bet we will have reservations for Circa 1875.
It was our second time back to the restaurant in Savannah. We’ve been to the one in Charleston as well. We have never been disappointed. The food is always very well prepared with a great presentation. Service has always gone above and beyond. Also very informative. Made for an enjoyable evening.
Everything was perfect until desert. I was in the middle of eating my desert and ended up getting a large portion of plastic wrap in my mouth from the sorbet. They did not charge me for the desert, which is good because I couldn't finish it after that.
Music was to loud for conversation. When asked, the manager lowered and was fine.
Lovely meal. Our second visit and it was as good as we remembered it from a few years ago. We love french food and the options all looked delicious. I had trout and my husband had roast chicken. Our servers were attentive and very pleasant. The high ceilings make the room a bit noisy if there are large groups. Highly recommended.
The food was outstanding. The lamb was perfection! Also, they have Orval which is very hard to find.
Food was excellent; service was indifferent to perfunctory. Nevertheless, it was overall a pleasant evening.
Betty served us, and she was super friendly, knowledgeable and fun!
My favorite restaurant in Savannah. Excellent food and service. Easy to have a quiet conversation. Music was too loud when we arrived but I asked the hostess to turn it down and she did (with a smile). Our friends lived in France for many years and she loved the Cassoulet.
I had the trout and it was perfect.
Excellent dinner, friendly wait-staff, charming ambience. We will be back!
Excellent all around experience. Will definitely go back next time we visit Savannah
Always dependable for impeccable service and good food.
Our dining experience at Circaa 1875 is always extra special when Betty is our server. Besides having a delightful, friendly personality, she is always spot on with recommendations for both food and wine. There are so many nice choices on the menu, it is difficult to decide on one appetizer, entree, and dessert. Everything is always so delicious! Circa 1875 is definitely our go-to place for a very special meal!!!
Outstanding meal, ambience and value! Definitely will be back!
Bottom-line-up-front: This place is fantastic. I don’t particularly like French food, but this place was exceptional. Food, service, ambiance… excellent.
That said, this wouldn’t be a review if I didn’t say more than “F-Yeah!” So, here goes:
If you book a reservation, be aware that there are two doors: one for the dining room, and the other for the bar. I think all reservations are for the dining room. At least ours was, maybe I could have requested a table in the bar area, but I didn’t ask if that was an option. Regardless, my reason for bringing this up is that the bar area is definitely “casual dress,” but the dining room… probably not so much. There were a bunch of guys wearing jackets, so if we had eaten there I’d have felt pretty out of place. (No, they weren’t a-holes about it, but it would have been especially weird.)
… but then that’s one of the things that made this place so great. We just rolled over next door and told them about our reservation in the dining room and Danny (one of the bartenders) set us up at a table. Danny was awesome. (All of the staff were great.) They came up with drinks for us based on general descriptions of what we were in the mood for, and even suggested other places we should try out later that might make similar things as a standard.
Our food, from the starters through the main courses were excellent. I’d recommend the scallops for the appetizer (not what I picked, so I was jealous), and the trout for dinner (also, not my pick, so I was more jealous). I should point out that all of our meals (group of four) were excellent, but these were my favorites.
We had lavender crème brulee for dessert, and it was good enough that we were scraping the dish to make sure we got it all.
One more suggestion, when you go here, walk around - it’s a very cool setup.
OK, two more suggestions… it's very filling and pretty rich (‘cause, you know… it’s French), so don’t eat beforehand and don’t fill up on bread (because you’ll want to).
