Everything was perfect until desert. I was in the middle of eating my desert and ended up getting a large portion of plastic wrap in my mouth from the sorbet. They did not charge me for the desert, which is good because I couldn't finish it after that.
Music was to loud for conversation. When asked, the manager lowered and was fine.
Lovely meal. Our second visit and it was as good as we remembered it from a few years ago. We love french food and the options all looked delicious. I had trout and my husband had roast chicken. Our servers were attentive and very pleasant. The high ceilings make the room a bit noisy if there are large groups. Highly recommended.
The food was outstanding. The lamb was perfection! Also, they have Orval which is very hard to find.
Food was excellent; service was indifferent to perfunctory. Nevertheless, it was overall a pleasant evening.
Betty served us, and she was super friendly, knowledgeable and fun!
My favorite restaurant in Savannah. Excellent food and service. Easy to have a quiet conversation. Music was too loud when we arrived but I asked the hostess to turn it down and she did (with a smile). Our friends lived in France for many years and she loved the Cassoulet.
I had the trout and it was perfect.
Excellent dinner, friendly wait-staff, charming ambience. We will be back!
Excellent all around experience. Will definitely go back next time we visit Savannah
Always dependable for impeccable service and good food.
Our dining experience at Circaa 1875 is always extra special when Betty is our server. Besides having a delightful, friendly personality, she is always spot on with recommendations for both food and wine. There are so many nice choices on the menu, it is difficult to decide on one appetizer, entree, and dessert. Everything is always so delicious! Circa 1875 is definitely our go-to place for a very special meal!!!
Outstanding meal, ambience and value! Definitely will be back!
Bottom-line-up-front: This place is fantastic. I don’t particularly like French food, but this place was exceptional. Food, service, ambiance… excellent.
That said, this wouldn’t be a review if I didn’t say more than “F-Yeah!” So, here goes:
If you book a reservation, be aware that there are two doors: one for the dining room, and the other for the bar. I think all reservations are for the dining room. At least ours was, maybe I could have requested a table in the bar area, but I didn’t ask if that was an option. Regardless, my reason for bringing this up is that the bar area is definitely “casual dress,” but the dining room… probably not so much. There were a bunch of guys wearing jackets, so if we had eaten there I’d have felt pretty out of place. (No, they weren’t a-holes about it, but it would have been especially weird.)
… but then that’s one of the things that made this place so great. We just rolled over next door and told them about our reservation in the dining room and Danny (one of the bartenders) set us up at a table. Danny was awesome. (All of the staff were great.) They came up with drinks for us based on general descriptions of what we were in the mood for, and even suggested other places we should try out later that might make similar things as a standard.
Our food, from the starters through the main courses were excellent. I’d recommend the scallops for the appetizer (not what I picked, so I was jealous), and the trout for dinner (also, not my pick, so I was more jealous). I should point out that all of our meals (group of four) were excellent, but these were my favorites.
We had lavender crème brulee for dessert, and it was good enough that we were scraping the dish to make sure we got it all.
One more suggestion, when you go here, walk around - it’s a very cool setup.
OK, two more suggestions… it's very filling and pretty rich (‘cause, you know… it’s French), so don’t eat beforehand and don’t fill up on bread (because you’ll want to).
We couldn't jet off to Paris for our anniversary dinner so we chose Circa 1875, no disappointments here, always a great choice
Fantastic! Sea Bass, Tuna special and seafood crepes all superb.
Circa 1875 never fails when it comes to delicious food, friendly service and great atmosphere. We also appreciate that during festival times, e.g., the Savannah Music Festival, they adjust their hours to accommodate pre-concert dining.
Circa 1875 was the finest restaurant we visited in Savannah. If we were to recommend one dish it would be the mussels. PEI mussels (the very best) are handled by a chef who know exactly what to do with them; the final dish is spooned into a "big bowl" a "shell plate" is placed on top like a helmet; and a fine gentleman named James and his associate compete the production at our table. The treat for all of us lucky enough to visit this fine restaurant is absolutely unbelievable.
Our server was very attentive and each course was served in a timely manner. Wine recommendation was spot-on, filet mignon was cooked to perfection, and desserts were authentically French, including the flavorful coffee to accompany the dessert.
We had a fabulous time! Even though it was very crowded because of The Savannah Music Festival, our service and server were wonderful! Our food was delicious! We will come back to eat here again and again!!!
Ling term friends seeing each other.
French onion soup is amazing, would definitely return for that, entrees were good quality but veal lacked seasoning somewhat
My wife & I had reservations & were seated in the downstairs wine cellar. Very cozy & romantic, if you wish. Excellent service; wonderful food & drink. Highly recommend for a "classy" dinner.
This is the second time we have fined at Circa 1875 and it did not disappoint. The food is interesting & delicious. The service is excellent. We highly recommend Circa 1875 and look forward to dining there again.
Excellent, the Ambiance was worth the reservation. I enjoyed the fact that it was great for both couples and small groups.
We had dinner reservations at 6:15 PM on Wednesday evening, 4/4. We were warmly greeted and seated upon our arrival. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, providing excellent service despite a large table for 10 included within his responsibilities. The Manhattans were great cocktails to accompany delicious and garlicy Escargot, as well as the Lamb entre. The House Salad and Sea Bass were also beautifully prepared and presented, as well as being very flavorful. We finished dinner with the Black Forest Cake and a Lavender Creme Brule with a great 10 year Tawny Port. The restaurant is also very appealing in a historic building beautifully decorated in the style of a comfortable, but elegant French Bistro.
Clint, our server was wonderful - engaging but not intrusive. Very good wine list that avoided the excessive mark-up that often is found in a fine dining establishment. Error on one of our appetizers (over-cooked) was immediately corrected. Menu was varied and quite interesting - specials were also great.
Try it and yo too will be glad to repeat the experience.
We loved everything about this restaurant. Excellent onion soup, chicken livers and venison - everything was done with extra attention to detail. Server was enthusiastic and attentive without being overbearing, which is something of a trick to pull off. We were seated in the cellar, and enjoyed the monastic theme to the decor. If you are looking for an excellent meal and great service, this is your place.
I absolutely picked the wrong place to take my family to dinner. This place is NOT kid friendly! Very cramped seating. I'm talking like sardines. If you like the feeling of being judged and staff talking behind your back, this is your place. We were fortunate to have a great waiter. He's what made the dinner much better than what it could have been. The food was above average, but not fantastic. This place could be okay for date night, but I could recommend a dozen other places that will leave a lasting memory.
Took a newcomer to Savannah to our favorite restaurant and it did not disappoint. One of the top in the city, period!
We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the amazing food! Service was fantastic, environment was quaint and everything was exactly what we had been hoping for!
Consistently excellent all the way around - a favorite!
What a great surprise, outstanding in all respects.
The menu selections, trout and cassoulet, were excellent as was the bottle of Albariño, Columna. Service was excellent, and the downstairs ambiance was enjoyable.
The food and service where excellent. The restaurant space is small but nicely decorated. We were seated by the door and pepole bumped into my chair all the time. In addition if weather is cold you get a cold breeze every time someone opended the door.
Overall excellent restaurant. Food was outstanding. Service was great.
We took our daughter for her college graduation and were totally impressed by the decor, atmosphere, attention, and food. Just like being in Paris! Wonderful experience. Two thumbs way up!
Wonderful! Our favorite restaurant while visiting Savannah. Service was amazing! Went twice in five days. Had a lovely chat with the bartender who made a great Old fashioned.
Our server, Clint, was entertaining and informative. The Coquille St. Jacques was delicious and the tuna special was perfection. Topping it off with chocolate mousse made for a great evening! Our best meal in Savannah.
