Cipriani Downtown Ratings and Reviews
I loved this place, really good food and sweet ambiance, and I recommend it. But for the life of me I couldn't get my head around the tiny--and I mean tiny--wine glasses used both at the bar and the tables. I couldn't get a bead on their thinking, despite an effort, and assume the practice reflects a misguided cultural retrospective, but it ain't cool to serve red wine in a droplet-size glasses. Silly practice.
I took a client out to Cipriani Downtown figuring I’m going to an expensive Italian Restaurant with the most impeccable service.
Well, what a ripoff. For starters, they don’t put prices on the OpenTable menu so you don’t get sticker shot till you get the place.
Prices were high but you figure you will get a meal and service of a lifetime. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. And the service was just Ok. Not worth $125 per person!
Save your money - go somewhere else. This place is for the rich frou frou SoHo crowd who like to go to overpriced restaurants whose palettes are evidently not functioning correctly :)
Very over priced for what you get, food was ok nothing amazing. 3 drinks 2 mains and a bill for $170 dollars didn't represent value. I'm happy to pay for food but when a plate of over cooked fries comes in at $16 I feel some what violated.
Pleasant meal although cramped and noisy until the bill came and they charged us 64$ for 2 kids portions of PLAIN spaghetti! (No sauce, no anything!) it wasn't on the menu but naturally we didn't think they would take the opportunity to completely rip us off. More expensive than the adult meals. Complained to manager who told us to take it up with Mr Cipriani himself! We eat at Michelin starred restaurants all over the world and have never come across such service. Would not recommend and would not return.
Food was good, although the pastas appear to be doused in sauce. Perhaps that's an American thing; it's not authentic Italian for sure. There were too many table, tables were too close together and appeared disorganized. Service was very good.
Overall, a little rich for why you get.
I've been here a couple of times, also upstairs, and there's always been a vibrant atmosphere, which is great. Great place for an evening out, for a special occasion with friends, to eat great Italian food and drink the ever so famous bellini's! But watch out, the ambiance has a price. Dishes start at around $25 to $30 here.
