Cipriani - Dolci Ratings and Reviews
Started a little rocky when the hostess chose to seat a party of 4 at a table made for 2 but the manager quickly adjusted the seating situation and we were comfortable from the point on. Cipriani has good casual food served quickly. The service was fine and the ambience is noisy and fun. The restaurant is located in the main concourse of Grand Central Station so the people watching is unsurpassed. Go there to have fun and eat decent food.
The restaurant’s location, on the mezzanine of the restored and majestic Grand Central Terminal, is the big draw. And despite the crowds and hubbub, our service was exceptional. The food is good. For all this you pay a price, high even by New York standards. For example, most of the wine is $80 a bottle and up, with quite a few over $100 — and these are good but not landmark offerings. For three courses including dessert, plus wine, tip, and taxes, the bill for three of us was over $500. Dining with attentive service in the imperial grandeur of Grand Central made for a memorable evening, well worth the kingly price.
We visited at 6:30 on a very busy Saturday night. There didn't appear to be any effort to accommodate our seating request (made in advance). Wonderful ambience nonetheless; a beautiful setting overlooking Grand Central's main concourse, and the noise level permitted conversation reasonably easily. Service was very pleasant but quite slow, almost to the point of neglect. If the prices were lower, that would be forgivable. The kitchen got the food order out within a reasonable amount of time, but it took quite a while to get drinks ordered, a basket of bread, etc. The waitstaff was just stretched too thin. The cocktails were great - a wonderful "perfect" manhattan. My dining partner had tortellini which was fabulous; my hamburger was delicious, but the fries were just slightly warmer than room temp. At $27, a burger should come with hot fries. We were hoping to have coffee and dessert, but by the time we got the attention of the waitstaff, we had time only for a quick cup of coffee and the check. On the whole, given the delightful ambience and the quality of most of the food we had, I would return. But definitely not on a busy night.
We took a break from Christmas shopping and had a delicious and festive lunch. Our Waiter, Wilson was exceptional. He was very friendly & kind. Please try the chicken salad and artichoke soup - both were just so tasty! You can’t beat the ambience of Grand Central Terminal at the holidays!
My family (party of 5 adults and 1 child) went to Cipriani Folci for dinner for a night out in the city. My husband and I have dined at Ciprianis at other locations in the past, so we knew the food would be great- and most of our party was from out of town.
The food did not disappoint. Table ordered Tagliatare Sorrentino, Rigatoni w veal ragu, eggplant parm and ravioli. Everyone enjoyed their food, but portions were small for the price.
The location was great- sitting overlooking Grand Central’s Main Concourse- a people watchers dream. And it’s ceiling was beautiful as always with the constellations painted. The concourse was decorated for Christmas which made it extra charming, plus the holiday fair was running in the next room.
Service was very slow. If you are having a relaxing day, no problem. But we were trying to catch a play at 7:30...with a 4:45pm reservation, we did not finish our meal until 6:20, and get our check until 6:30. We did not get our drinks or bread for a while either.
Overall fair experience, but next time we will visit another Ciprianis in town.
Cipriani Dolci always has wonderful food, primarily Italian. The wine list is great. Service is excellent. The atmosphere inside Grand Central Terminal is extraordinary, and if you like people watching there is plenty of it to do. Excellent restaurant for lunch, dinner, drinks, and food.
Italian inside Grand Central overlooking the Apple Store is pretty cool. You’ve got to stare at the ceiling. It’s beautiful. After a short wait, we were seated on a slow night. The service wizard attentive. Cucumber salad was excellent. New tequila drink from Mexican sister restaurant is superb. Fettuccine with veal ragu was OK, but baked taglialine with ham was exceptional.
The location made the trip worth it, as it overlooks Grand Central Station, but the value and quality were not worth the cost. Pasta did not even taste fresh and homemade. We were also frustrated when we were seated when we asked if we could sit at an open table with a better view but were rudely told it was reserved. No one came to sit there during the hour we were there and we believe we were actually the reservation, but the staff was not attentive enough the recognize the error, including the manager. I would recommend the other restaurant in Grand Central other than bother with this one.
intersting venue in Grand Central, fun, good service and convenient location if you need to catch a train or subway before or after. Food was diassapointing and not inexpensive......
On the assumption that the ‘kitchen’ gets its act together I would give it another try.
