Visited Cioppino's after a symphony matinee show. The valet parking was appreciated as I am not very familiar with the strip district. The restaurant has a very comfortable feel and the service is very welcoming. We enjoyed the scallops and the white fish entrée and both were delicious. The wine list is extensive-we look forward to going back soon!
Cioppino is fancy without being pretentious. Food was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. They did a good job keeping it simple and doing it well. Cocktails and whiskey selection were top notch. Our server was someone I'd hire as a personal assistant; she was that attentive.
There was also live music playing in the bar area. It was loud, but the dining area was incredibly quiet. Keep this in mind if you plan to meet for drinks there.
What a find! The food was incredible - the brussels sprouts that came with my NY Strip were some of the best I've had. The steak was amazing and perfectly seasoned. The best part was our bartender, Andy. We ate dinner at the bar and he was incredible! We tried some unique mixed drinks based on his recommendations - they were outstanding, and I never would have dreamed I would have liked them! What a gem of a restaurant and staff!
Fantastic meal! Every aspect of my dinner was superb. The live scallops were very good with little shuttle ingredients that made the dish, my chopped salad was amazing and the Cioppino was second to none. Every sauce or dressing was perfectly matched with each dish. I dine out a lot in Pittsburgh, you guys are ranked very high in my eyes. Thank you
Our server was great, food was delicious, but the window walls around the perimeter made the place feel like a meat locker when the heat wasn't blowing. Also, the ambiance in general was a bit questionable. The concrete floors would've make so much more sense if there were at least some nice linens draped over the tables. Without them, this place feels cavernous - and lacks the comfortable, romantic warmth you're expecting from a high end dining establishment. Bar was nice, though - the jazz band they had playing the night we were there was incredible.
The restaurant itself was really nice. Neat looking bar area with live music, dining area was gorgeous and had some interesting decor on the walls.
The food itself was a little underwhelming. The cheeseboard was good and offered three different types of cheese, a nice creamy cheese, some manchego cheese, and bleu cheese. For entrees, we both got the Chilean sea bass which was cooked well. The accompaniments were a little off though. The saffron potatoes were tasty, however the eggplant puree was bland and not seasoned.
We had a superb experience at what might be the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. We start at the bar where we were introduced to some very interesting house created adaptations of different alcohols. The bartender was very interactive and is a bit of a mad scientist as a mixologist. The offering is creative and brilliant.
Dinner was beautifully prepared and our waitress Carrie was very professional, formal, and friendly. Steak tartare and salads were very fresh and followed by sea scallops and crab cakes that were outstanding. Save room for dessert because they are beautifully plated and quite creative.
We concluded our evening at Cioppino by going to the cigar bar. They have an outstanding selection of scotches and ports as well as a very robust cigar selection. Room never got overly smoky and provided a nice mix of sports on television’s in music.
All told we had a wonderful evening and look forward to returning to Pittsburgh so we may dine Cioppino again.
I had the NY Strip and it melted in my mouth, it is definitely worth the $40. My girlfriend came here for our 2 year anniversary and it was such a good dining experience and environment. We also got the cheese platter which was a perfect combinations of flavors.
I recently relocated back from Florida and couldn't wait to get back to Cioppino. I have treated both friends and clients to dinner and everytime it's been a great experience. Easy free valet parking and outstanding service. All at a great price. You will not be dissapointed. Try them today!
It had been several years since I had dinner at Cioppino’s, but the food was even better than I had remembered. Excellent presentation, fine flavors, and locally sourced ingredients. Our server, Robert, was congenial and well-informed. The service was nicely timed, so that all of our entrées arrived simultaneously. The only odd element of our evening was the lack of other patrons in the dining room. On a Tuesday evening, our party of six had the place to ourselves, which made for easy conversation — no shouting over the music or other patrons in order to be heard.
Staff was top notch. Food however, was sub par.
We started off with the calimari for an appetizer, which unfortunately was extremely over salted. I had the Cioppino and my wife had the halibut for our entrees.
The mussels in my Cioppino were not well cleaned. The first one I ate had a decent amount of sand that left an unpleasant feeling in my mouth. Had to drink an entire glass of water and swish around to get the sand out. My wife's Halibut came with a very rich cream sauce that overpowered and fish flavor.
What was odd, was that the people sitting next to us had the exact same entrees, and raved about each of them.
For the sake of the restaurant, I hope we were the only people that had a less than favorable food experience.
I must say again, the staff was top notch.
Arrived 15 minutes early for an 8pm reservation and were promptly seated. Waited several minutes for a server and another several minutes for her to bring a cocktail list and wine menu but after that the service was excellent. Our server was Imani and she was genuinely interested in our experience at Cioppiono. VERY knowledgeable, great personality and very friendly. Food was very well prepared and quick to arrive at the table...2 salads (feature salad and Caesar), Filet and New York Strip. Steaks were cooked to perfection and incredibly tender. We finished off the night in the cigar lounge with a bourbon. The service in the lounge, while prompt, was not nearly as engaging as the service we received in the dining room. However, we will definitely return the next time we are in Pittsburgh.
The scallops with lobster risotto was excellent. The scallops were perfectly prepared, as well as the lobster treatment in the risotto. We also had Alaskan halibut ,which was presented with a delicious potato - kind of a hash brown with an extremely crispy finish.
Our server was helpful and very efficient . It's pricey, but worth it .
We ate before a theater date, but would have stayed for the jazz, which was just beginning as we left, had we not already purchased tickets. Great musicians!
The Peking Duck was not crispy, but the flavor was smooth, not strong. The rice Melange that it was served with was very tasty. The Gumbo was rich and filling, but not too spicy, just a little tang. Dessert was the perfect ending to a great meal. My husband had the ceviche, which was a real winner, the duck, and dessert. We were both pleased with the food and more than happy with the service provided by Carrie.
When Cioppino first opened, we were there often, but sort of "fell out of the habit." This experience reminded us of how great the place is. We will be back.
Service was very good. Meals were good. Chop salads were very good. Filet Mignon was over-cooked beyond medium, although still tasty. Disappointed the filet was over-cooked. Scallops with lobster risotto was good but there seemed to be very little lobster. The cioppino was good but I found the broth to be a bit lacking...a little too bland.
