Love this place. The prices are moderate, but are reasonable for most of the menu items. The food selection is diverse and the lighting is ambient. The food is really good and the wine selection is nice. I love the cigar bar, yes, there is one. You wouldn't even know sitting in the restaurant side or possibly even on the bar side. The cigar bar has a James bond meets epic man-cave type feel to it. It sits behind the car with large cathedral high ceilings and a vast array of cigars and whiskey selections. The cigar bar also offers a variety of seating from regular height chairs to high tops to even a couple couches. Once in there, it is not musty or a smoke filled room as it seems to ventilated well. I highly recommend going here once, if not to eat, just to go hang out in the cigar bar area (PS you can bring your own cigar). They also offer valet service.
I have heard good things about the restaurant and decided to give it a try. I make an excellent Cioppino so I didn't want to try to eat something I make well. But the Scallops with the Lobster Risotto was delicious. Wasn't a fan of the appetizers - the octopus or the calamari - but I enjoyed the entree.
I had an awesome time celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday. Food was delicious, he loved that they had single barrel Jack Daniels Whiskey and a cigar bar. I loved the wine. The hostess when we first arrived was very friendly. Our server Imani was excellent. Terrific evening!
Imani was a fantastic, attentive, and kind server. Courses were delicious, served timely, and we cannot wait to return with friends. We recommend the goat cheese greens salad, cheese board, dry aged ribeye, scallops with risotto, and meghanns dessert sampler.
New Years Eve Dinner. We had a 930 reservation and all was enjoyable until at about 11 while we were still eating our entrees, we were told it was last call for the bar. From that point on, they began to close the restaurant around us and we were rushed to leave.
I can understand that from a business perspective they did not pull in the crowd they expected but even if we were the last table there, we should have been allowed to enjoy our meal in a relaxing manner. Note also that no where in the reservation process or even as we were seated was it mentioned that they would close at 11/1130. Had we been aware of that, we would have gone elsewhere as we anticipated a drink at midnight w a cigar.
New Year's Eve dinner. Huge disappointment; from seating ( freezing by windows), service (slooooowwww) to food (bland)! Will not return. Had reservation for 8 & arrived 7:50. Despite empty tables, waited until 7:59 to be seated. Come on now!?! Waste of $150.
Went for NYE dinner, but have been there on other occasions. Great food, very pleasant and engaged staff. We were seated in the bar this visit, and though I generally prefer the dinning room, the fact that there were tv's available and we caught the end of the Bengals/Ravens game was a great thing!
When I made the reservation they asked if it was a special occasion and I said yes, my husbands birthday. Not only did they not do anything, I asked about it and they said next time he comes he could maybe get a dessert, huh?!? The steaks we ordered were delicious but a slice of bread or a salad would be nice. The waiter was disinterested and rushing us out. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a celebration!
we had one good experience here and one horrid. The waiter Tyler I believe was about the worst server we ever had. He was disinterested in doing his job that night, maybe something was on his mind that was more important than serving the restaurants customers, but then I realized that the tables that came in before us, and after us all got their food before us. Also, we had a table that was positioned so that you could see into the kitchen when the waiters went through the swinging door. Every time that door opened there was Tyler... standing there talking away to whoever would listen, the only fact is that he was back there talking, more then serving his customers. I even had to go to the front desk reservation concierge to get salt and pepper for our table. Then we waited over an hour and 1/2 for our steaks (just steaks ), and all 4 steaks at the table were cooked incorrectly. I sent mine back and asked for them to just remove my meal from the check b/c I was not hungry anymore from the stress of watching him just stand there not serving us and waiting so long to eat. My hunger just left me. I was so embarrassed too b/c we took our friends there for their birthdays and we raved about this place before we came, Their staff made themselves and us look bad that night. I was fully planning on never coming back partly due to my embarrassment for them and additionally b/c I was so disappointed by the service and food, I felt insulted. Nobody goes out and spends 500 on a meal for 4 people and gets service like this and accepts it. Just b/c you have the $, doesn't mean anything, it the principal of the matter. The manager ended up comping our entire meal and was a real class act b/c he knew and saw how upset this experience made our group, however be prepared to potentially be out 300-500 dollars and not be happy. its 50/50 on the type of experience you will have. Like I said, if he didn't comp the meal I would have NEVER went back and told everyone to NEVER go there.
Traveled into last minute to Pittsburgh for big game and looked for steak restaurant to celebrate a birthday dinner. Because we were late in booking, all the traditional steakhouses were full. Cioppino had good reviews so figured it was worth a try. Plus it was in the Strip District, which I wanted to see rather than just staying downtown.
Food quality was excellent for what we received (more on that later) but service led to a subpar experience, which is why I cannot recommend. The steaks were terrific - had the filet and the dry aged rib eye (most expensive steak) - cooked just right. The sides were very nice. The raw oysters were decent - not amazing - but good flavor.
Here's what went wrong.
- one appetizer never arrived (for birthday person)
- no bread offered/served but we saw other tables receive
- one side never arrived
- drink order was incorrect and/or refills took very long time to arrive
By the end of the meal, we thought about dessert but then reconsidered and just decided to call it a night rather than be disappointed. Maybe it was just an off night. I really wanted to like Cioppino and the food quality that we received was excellent.
Visited Cioppino's after a symphony matinee show. The valet parking was appreciated as I am not very familiar with the strip district. The restaurant has a very comfortable feel and the service is very welcoming. We enjoyed the scallops and the white fish entrée and both were delicious. The wine list is extensive-we look forward to going back soon!
Cioppino is fancy without being pretentious. Food was perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. They did a good job keeping it simple and doing it well. Cocktails and whiskey selection were top notch. Our server was someone I'd hire as a personal assistant; she was that attentive.
There was also live music playing in the bar area. It was loud, but the dining area was incredibly quiet. Keep this in mind if you plan to meet for drinks there.
What a find! The food was incredible - the brussels sprouts that came with my NY Strip were some of the best I've had. The steak was amazing and perfectly seasoned. The best part was our bartender, Andy. We ate dinner at the bar and he was incredible! We tried some unique mixed drinks based on his recommendations - they were outstanding, and I never would have dreamed I would have liked them! What a gem of a restaurant and staff!
Fantastic meal! Every aspect of my dinner was superb. The live scallops were very good with little shuttle ingredients that made the dish, my chopped salad was amazing and the Cioppino was second to none. Every sauce or dressing was perfectly matched with each dish. I dine out a lot in Pittsburgh, you guys are ranked very high in my eyes. Thank you
Our server was great, food was delicious, but the window walls around the perimeter made the place feel like a meat locker when the heat wasn't blowing. Also, the ambiance in general was a bit questionable. The concrete floors would've make so much more sense if there were at least some nice linens draped over the tables. Without them, this place feels cavernous - and lacks the comfortable, romantic warmth you're expecting from a high end dining establishment. Bar was nice, though - the jazz band they had playing the night we were there was incredible.
The restaurant itself was really nice. Neat looking bar area with live music, dining area was gorgeous and had some interesting decor on the walls.
The food itself was a little underwhelming. The cheeseboard was good and offered three different types of cheese, a nice creamy cheese, some manchego cheese, and bleu cheese. For entrees, we both got the Chilean sea bass which was cooked well. The accompaniments were a little off though. The saffron potatoes were tasty, however the eggplant puree was bland and not seasoned.
