We had a very good experience.
Everything was perfect, the only thing I would improve is the temperature in the restaurant.. it was chilly and we could tell more than just us were chilly. Other than that - don’t change a thing. Great service by Drew in the restaurant and D in the cigar bar!
We were visiting from out of town to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff was very friendly and the food was outstanding. I chose this restaurant because other reviewers commented on the high end steakhouse experience without the pretentiousness. I would agree 100%. My wife and I had a fabulous dinner and overall experience and will look forward to dining here again the next time we are in town.
Went here for dinner with another couple. It was bad from the start. The service was very slow and poor. There were many open tables, so being busy was not the issue. The waiter told us how delicious a particular seasonal cocktail was, so we ordered it. He came back and said the bar can’t make it and he doesn’t know why. One of our friends then ordered a bourbon. It was not a 2oz pour. We were offered a shot glass if we want errs to measure it. Really? My husbands salmon was ordered medium well and exceptionally undercooked. We weren’t able to send it back as our waiter didn’t resurface until it was time to clear the plates. After one bite, the salmon was thrown away and my husband was still hungry. Also, my husband ordered a side of the fingerling potatoes. We never got them. My friend then asked if the bar could make us a chocolate martini but split it into 2 glasses as an after dinner drink...we had each already had 2 glasses of wine each. We were told that would be fine...one martini glass came with two straws. Once the bill came, I noticed we were charged for the martini, but there was an add on charge for Grey Goose. We didn’t request Grey Goose. This $400+ dinner for four people was a huge disappointment. We will not be back.
Tyler was amazing! Great food and drinks love this place!
I brought my parents here to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The menu looked great online, but I was slightly disappointed in the food. There were a few items that were very salty, some where surprisingly spicy, and others lacked flavor. The beet salad and the creamed spinach were by far the best dishes. However, the service was amazing, our waiter and the staff took great care of us and compensated for the hit or miss food. After dinner, we enjoyed dessert and cocktails in the cigar bar. The dessert sampler was to die for. It was delicious! It was a nice experience for a special occasion, but not sure if I will go back.
We came here for my husband's birthday this weekend, and they did a fantastic job of making him feel special... Happy Birthday on our menu, a birthday card, and Happy Birthday on his dessert. Our waitress, Carrie, was outstanding and very knowledgeable. All of our food was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. I had the scallops and lobster risotto from our waitress's recommendation, and I'm so glad I went with that! All 4 of us would highly recommend it. I can't wait to come back to try something else on their menu! Cigar bar was a little smokier than other cigar bars we've been to, but my husband and brother loved it.
I love this place. Whenever I arrive from Dallas, TX it's always one of my first stops. Staff is always pleasant and service is A-1. Great job guys!
This is our second time to Pittsburgh and found this gem last visit. We LOVE the ambience, service, and local bands. We celebrated my boyfriend’s birthday with dinner and staff provided a complimentary dessert as well as a surprise birthday song from the saxophone player at table side! The food, cigar bar and experience is top notch! Our favorite place in Pittsburgh to visit!
Service and setting were perfect, great wine selection. Food was bland.
Everything was excellent. Food and service were fantastic!
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, which I noted on the reservation. The service and food were superb. However, I was surprised that they did nothing special for his birthday. Not even a "Happy Birthday". The table behind me which was a group of men, they were celebrating a birthday as well and it was certainly taken into consideration and made known. I was a little disappointed and felt bad.
When you tell a restaurant that you are celebrating a major anniversary (60!), you at least expect the desert you ordered and paid for to come with a minor attempt at celebration. They completely blew it, not even a “happy anniversary” to my parents.
Sadly, this restaurant has gone downhill. The food was bland and not pleasing to the eye. The music in the bar is entirely too loud. Won't be back.
Our wine glasses stuck to the table.
Our table was uneven and rocked like we were on the Titanic
The calamari was raw
The Caesar salad was soggy and drowned in dressing. The white anchovies were a nice touch, however. The waitress removed the salad from our bill as she too thought the Caesar wasn’t great.
I ordered the pork shank. The over all dish was eatable but the shank had too much smoke and was over cooked. I compare it to a piece of jerky. The mash and carrots were the highlight of the meal.
Overall, not a place to take clients, family or friends for that matter if good food is what you’re looking for. I will say the cigar bar was nice and I wouldn’t mind coming back to watch a game and grab a drink IF I were in that part of town.
Our server was nice and attentive. My only complaint there was please keep the waters filled when you can.
There is room for you to turn around my comments. Focus on cleanliness, small details (like stabilizing a table) and find a better cook.
My husband and I went this past Saturday for the first time. Great live music, food and service. Perfect date night in our book! Already recommended to friends as a must.
2 meals out of 6 people were enjoyed. The Cioppino was particularly disappointing with the shellfish so small, the fish over cooked and the broth limp and tasteless.
Dinner was excellent with superb service by Imani. We had a great time in a nice atmosphere.
Food and service was wonderful.
The music in the bar was so loud that you could NOT have a conversation at the table in he dining room!!
Had a great meal with my girlfriend for a nicer date in town. We both enjoyed our dinners and appreciated the staff and their kindness and hard work. Also really enjoyed the quiet environment and cleanliness.
service was great. Was very disappointed in food. veal had no sauce and the pasta was all
stuck together as if it was sitting out for awhile and was tasteless.
The overall service and atmosphere was great! However, the food was subpar. I expected more since we ordered from the summer restaurant 2018 menu.
Our server was very friendly and nice
Waitress was attentive to a food allergy. Appetizer was served with an item that wasn't listed on the menu. The dish was remade. The waitress the made sure to inform us of drinks that had that item in it.
We were there for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. We loved the menu! The service is always great!
Everyone was professional, kind and welcoming.
Food was off the charts great
The chef prepared special items for the 2 small children in our party.
Definitely will be back.
Server was delightful personable. Food was great. Drinks were too. We recommend trying Cioppino!
ATMOSPHERE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND FOOD ( DINNER AND DESSERT) WAS AMAZING!!
This was our third trip to the restaurant. We went to listen to music and eat in the bar. The band was really LOUD. We almost left because of the decibel level. I think the band was called Lucarelli? They were good but they need to turn down the volume.
Great music Saturday night in the bar. Wait staff is usually very attentive.
It’s sad that this restaurant has fallen so low. Our appetizer and dessert were both very good, but both of us were disappointed with our entrees. I had the lamb and it was almost inedible. The couscous was awful. My friend’s fish was over cooked and the amount of sauce of her plate was embarrassing. It was like the expected the sauce to somehow fix the fish. I ordered a glass of wine and the server brought it over for me to taste. It was terrible and I said oh that’s bad and she told me that all the servers think it’s bad, none of the customer like it, and they’ve asked to have it removed from the menu! This used to be one of the best restaurants in the city but it’s coasting on fumes now.
Outstanding service by Bobby. Great server. Nicole in the Cigar Bar was professional and very friendly. Have recommended this to friends. Cannot wait to go back.
Food was delicious.
Delicious. We'll be back. 50 characters? It doesn't take 50 characters to say it was DELICIOUS. But it was. So here, I'll type it again. Cool, Open Table seems to think I've done an acceptable review now.
Absolutely love this restaurant! The food is amazing, everything from the appetizers to the entrees. The dessert sampler was phenomenal. On top of it, a live jazz band plays through dinner, which adds to the mood. In a room off the bar, is a cigar bar, with many cigars to choose from.
Absolutely loved every bit of the experience and the food was fantastic! We will definitely be back in the future!
We recently dined at Cioppino to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Presumably since we were there on a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was uncrowded and thus eminently quiet. Our server was pleasant and attentive, but not intrusive, and quickly introduced us to the unexpectedly extensive wine list and the dinner menu. Our pre-prandial prosecco was a sparkling introduction to our meal, which comprised an excellent crab bowl, watermelon gazpacho (simultaneously sweet and piquant), & crab cakes for me and scallops for my wife. The food was excellently prepared and presented and altogether most enjoyable. A highpoint of the evening was the surprise presentation by our gracious & thoughtful server of a small but sublime (and gratis) anniversary cake, which we consumed with élan. This was not our first visit to Cioppino, whose menu features steaks and an array of seafood dishes, to the latter of which we are invariably attracted. On the basis of our experience at Cioppino I recommend it with enthusiasm.
This was our first visit! It was a delightful evening! From the first taste of wine and appetizer our taste buds were excitedly activated! We savored every bite of our entrees that was full of flavors and prepared with perfection! Tom, our waiter, was very helpful in explaining the menu and answering our questions and made our experience special! We will definitely be back and spread the word of how amazing it was!
The atmosphere was enjoyable. The service was very good. Our waitress was attentive. We went as a group of 4. My husband and his friend ordered the same steak but different temperatures. I think the staff mixed up their plates - it appeared that their steak temperatures were opposite. My husband did not like his steak - he felt there was too much oil on it. My friend & I enjoyed our meals. It was a bit pricey for what it was. With all of the options out there, I'm not sure I would be quick to return.
It was our first time dining at this restaurant and we were very pleased with everything. The Cioppino was wonderful (we had eaten at 2 other very upscale places and their Cioppino was very mediocre). The service was fantastic and the Jazz Band played music perfect for dinner. The cookie dough egg rolls were unique and delicious! Thank you for such a high quality restaurant.
