Cinema cafe 34th street is an American restaurant in Murray Hill, New York. Inside it is an artistic and modern feeling environment with posters, photography and paintings lining every wall. Circular tables sit in the middle of the dining area while a long bar-style table and stools take up one of the walls for more casual seating. This is an atmosphere full of vibrant energy and lively discussions. Many guests at Cinema like to people watch from the windows of the cafe or from the outside seating area.
Cuisine at Cinema is new American and old favorites of the continent. Brunch, lunch and dinner are all served with separate menus, and drinks from the full-service bar are always available. Popular dishes of choice at the restaurant include the grilled hanger steak sandwich, rib eye, fish tacos, spaghetti and meatballs and the Kobi burger.
This restaurant was closed when I arrived for my reservation. Extremely horrible that they did not call to inform me.
We had a dog so needed a place to sit outside. Big mistake-the corner of 3rd and 34th was exceptionally noisy, full of honking cabs and bus exhaust. The food was mediocre. I had a salad with salmon but the salmon was canned and flaked. Our sever was very attentive and nice. Nothing special here, I would pass.
I surprised a friend with a group dinner for his birthday and the staff was super nice, welcoming, and accommodating - they said I could bring my own cakes and balloons and even helped cut the cakes for us!
it seems they aspire to be something other than a coffee shop/diner, which is not really necessary - the ambience is fine but more sandwiches and light fare would be most welcome..
Great food at a reasonable price. Lovely seating.
Excellent food choices and big servings, the environment is wonderful, the staff remember you, which is always a nice gesture! The location of the restuarant is also central on bus route and busy Third Avenue.
The chopped Cobb salad was not appetizing looking and just ok. The vegetable risotto was fine. Expected better based on the reviews. Friendly service.
I went with a group of people and thought it odd that I was able to book a large group last minute in NY. There was a reason why...it just isn't good. From really bad food to horrible, watered down drinks I would never go back. The whole group was disappointed in everything except the fries. The server was very sweet, but we still kept running out of water and had to look for her and flag her down each time. I would not recommend this restaurant.
This is a real find. We had a party of 7 and were given a table nicely situated off to the side so we could talk and catch up. Food was excellent. The vegetable risotto was fabulous. Portions are nit sized. Menu is diverse enough for groups with both meat eaters and vegetarians. Drinks were also fun and nice beer list. Service was attentive and pleasant. Water glasses were kept full. We were not rushed or pushed out. But it also wasn't packed. The only complaint would be the large projection screen above our table was distracting for those sitting facing it.
Went there for dinner on the coldest weekend in 100 years. Frigid and a little drafty if seated by windows. Servers were friendly and moved us closer to the bar. We shared calamari, margarita pie and the aged beef burger. All were exceptional. Each had a drink and then split tiramasu which was incredible. Under $100 with tip. Hard to do in NYC. On a nice day with doors open, this location would be perfect for serious people watching. Overall fantastic value.
We have always loved Cinema cafe. However, The last time we are are there, all 3 of our credit cards were denied. Even though nowhere else have they been denied, we were told it was not there fault. We lost airline miles, both on the total dollars and as a member of Jet Blue dining program.
Also, confusion over dessert, waited after one diner already finished hers. The waitress that night was a little intrusive, coming over many times except the time we needed her about the dessert.
Maybe just an off day.
The service was exceptional! Our waitress was personable, knowledgeable about the menu & funny. The food arrived quickly & was delicious. Liked the happy hour drink specials. Was a pleasurable dining experience & would definitely return & recommend!
It was my first time visiting this restaurant. I was drawn by the theme. There are movie posters and they were playing old silent films on the wall. The menu had vegetarian options and most offerings were reasonably priced (for Manhattan). We went on a Monday night so it was easy to find a table. I think its a nice, relaxed place to sit down for a meal.
My fiance and I have eaten there for brunch many times, but had never gone for dinner. The food was much more high end than we expected. It was delicious. Easy menu for people with allergies as well.
