Cinco Mexican Cantina - Suwanee Ratings and Reviews
All I can do at this point is sing the praises of this restaurant yet again. It is in my top two favorite places, and my top if I'm in the mood for mex. My friend had the Tacos al Carbon, which I usually also order. I was a piggy this time and ordered the lunch fajitas. Oh, my, yummy yummy yummy! The steak was cooked to order. I also had plenty of sautéed onion, peppers, and tomatoes. It really was a nice portion for lunch.
Our server, Jose, was super. He's a new face for us, but maybe not for the restaurant. He did a great job and will be a super star.
First time at Cinco , took my mom and BF. I made reservations but really did not need too because we were the only ones in the restaurant. We loved the salsa that came with the nachos. It was super tasty than any I have had.
The food was good but the portions were very small. The only part of the meal that none of us liked were the black beans. They were very bland and on the hard side.
Other than the black beans , everything else was very tasty.
Wonderful meal. My friend and I got our usual lunches, the Tacos al Carbon w/steak. They were perfect as always. We also had the guacamole, which has always been good, but seems to be even better the last two times. I don't know if it's the ingredients are fresher or a different preparer. We also had regular frozen margaritas w/salt. I've never had a bad marg here. Our server Edgar was fantastic also. He kept our water glasses filled and checked on us just the right amount. We'll be back...we always are. :-)
Fantastic meal, as always. Of course, we asked for our favorite server Miguel. He is the best! We actually pick our lunch day around his schedule. I met a friend for lunch and we had our usual one margarita each and the Tacos Al Carbon w/steak. The guacamole appetizer was the best yet with nice chunks of avocado. It is simply fantastic food reasonably priced. I haven't been for dinner in a couple of years since I now live over an hour away, but lunch is always easy to get in and out and still have taken our time.
We took our Mother here because the first time we visited it was excellent from the food and service. This time not so much- I want to say maybe it was because it was the afternoon and it was also Mothers Day. The service was slow, the place was disorganized and this just wasn't what we were hoping for this time around. I will give them another chance to see if that was just an off day.
I can no longer recommend Cinco's.. We have frequented Cinco's since it opened and have had good meals and great service until recently. The service was still very good but unfortunately the food couldn't come close to the service. The corn tortilla's were bland, the tomatoes I ordered for my grandchildren were old, and the re fried beans were puréed. Yuck!
The skinny margarita was skinny because it was nothing but ice.
The best part of our meal was the chip- still fresh and served with yummy sauce.
I wouldn't write a bad review but this was a good restaurant that seems determined to go by the wayside.
When we arrived at Cinco's, they had no record of our reservation. I showed the hostess my email confirmation, however she just kept repeating they did not have our reservation for 8. She was able to accommodate us in the bar, however it's pointless to make a reservation on open table if they don't honor it. Additionally, we had to request a birthday acknowledgement even though it was requested in the reservation. Everyone at the table later had an upset stomach from the food. Not sure why that was..
I loved the food as always but the service was horrible. Our waiter was way to slow. We ordered a burrito without the pork and when we got the order.. there was pork in the burrito. I was so upset. Then we waiting for a new burrito to be made. Then when we were done with our food, we waited for the check and it was like the waiter forgot about us. The manager came up to us asking if we needed anything else and we told him we have yet to receive our check. Then when I got the check, they charged me with 2 burritos instead of one. We waited some more to get it fixed.
First, ask to be seated in Miguel's section. He is fabulous! I moved a couple of years ago and still drive nearly an hour and half to come here roughly every other week. A friend and I have lunch here and always ask for Miguel. We also get the Taco's al Carbon 99% of the time. I love how they cook the steak bits how you like them. I'm medium. The guacamole is always a treat as well. To make everything a tad more enjoyable, we have our frozen margarita's with salt. Yummy. It's worth the drive every time.
Love love love this place. Met a friend there for lunch and we had our usual guacamole, and Tacos al Carbon. I always get them with steak medium rare. I like that they are cooked to order and always come out cooked just how I order them. I didn't get it this time, but the steak and blue cheese flat bread is great for lunch as well. It is never crowded at lunch, but I have seen it busy at dinner. Still, score your Open Table points and ask for Miguel. He is fantastic.
A good classic Margarita is so easy to do. And apparently even easier to mess up. I started with the house Margarita, listed on the menu in 16oz, 24 oz, etc. Even though it said 16 oz right on the menu, it was served in a 8oz over size rocks glass. The waiter was perplexed when I pointed this out, but went back to the bar manager. He brought back an additional 12oz glass.
If you sell your drinks by size, you should serve in the right size glassware.
In both cases, even though I asked for "light on the ice", the glasses were crammed full of cubes.
The drink itself was overly sweet, with only a hint of tequila.
Unless you are looking for lightly spiked lime-ade, don't bother with the house.
And you need to keep them honest on the drink sizes.
We have tried probably 6 or 7 times to eat at Cinco-Suwanee over the last few years. We LOVE the Cinco-Vickery but Suwanee does not compare. First it was a disappointment with the fish tacos, they were soupy and greasy. The Mgr gave us a certif to come back and try again. Same thing second time. This was a few years ago. We ate at Vickery a few months ago and had both the shrimp tacos and the ahi tacos. Excellent. The waiter also recommended a margarita (I had told him I had never found one at Cinco that was really good) He was spot on. Then THIS trip to Suwanee to order the same exact meal. The ahi was very good, but the shrimp were very greasy. The margarita was not the same. The waitress said they fixed 'their' same margarita differently. Which is strange as one restaurant should be able to duplicate what any other Cinco serves. She apologized that I didn't get what I was expecting and gave us 20% off. But we won't go back to Suwanee. They can't seem to get it all together.
We made reservations for the Sunday lunch, and expecting the Brunch that is advertised, and what we had at the other location. They announced when we got there that they no longer had the Sunday Brunch at that location. Need to remove that from their Website then !!!!!!!
Let me begin by saying Miguel is fantastic. A friend and I grab lunch here about every couple of weeks. It used to be every week and then I moved 50+ miles away. We always ask for Miguel.
The food is delicious. This place has the best guacamole of any I have ever had in a restaurant. The margaritas are incredible as well. We each ordered the lunch portion of steak fajita's medium. I wish I could say we had enough left for to-go boxes, but we ate every bite. Like with the guac, the steak fajitas are the best I've had as well.
Remember, ask for Miguel!
I love this place. The food was absolutely excellent from the chicken quesadilla for the appetizer right down to the pollo abobado. The service was excellent. I rarely eat dessert but I just had to try the Aztec chocolate mousse which was absolutely to die for. I would definitely come to Cinco again and again.
There have been management and server changes lately and it is noticeable. The food quality truly depends on the night you go, Thursday and Saturday, okay, Friday not very good. Again, the level of service depends on the manager and the night we were there, last Saturday, the normal manager wasn't working. The host was not an experienced host, very quiet and seemed confused when seating people, in a restaurant that wasn't half full at 6:30-7:00 on a Saturday night.
I called and also made a reservation and spoke to Victor to make an additional reservation for 8 and they did not have it, finally they cleared a space for us because we asked the bus guy to do it.... then the server was too busy and she sent over another server ... finally to take care of us... which he did do a fairly descent job but most of the time we had to go to the bar to get our drinks and our queso dip was cold and we had to return it to get fixed....
The service was just okay. The staff was very young and seemed more interested in just hanging around. The food was way below what I was expecting. The brunch selection was pitiful and the flavor was even worse. If I hadn't known it was a Mexican restaraunt from the sign, the food doesn't give it away. I will not return here.
