We had a reservation but the hostess kept trying to seat us at bad tables when there were plenty of nicer tables available.
Also, the short ribs on the prix fixe menu were dry and bland.
What a great spot with absolutely fantastic service. The food was amazing and the ambience was perfect for our Valentine’s Day date. It is rather pricey, but a fun dinner. Again, the service was fantastic!
Nice venue. Average food. Drinks are very good. Lots of history to the building but I wouldn’t go back to dine again if all they had was the food.
Overall nice ambience service was good too but a little disappointed by the food. Could have been better .
I thought I’d take the wife out for a nice Valentines dinner:
The food started out ok, the appetizers were actually quite decent (not $95 per person good bit, it was a first course) and then we waited for 20+ minutes for cold risotto, again that was semi-decent....then we waited at least 35 min for our main course- my wife had the Sea Bass and I had the super disappointing Short Ribs. The staff were very nice and friendly but, took way to long to get anything out of the kitchen. I went through 2 baskets of bread and an entire liter of water- I got to know the water guy, he was very cool; practically coming by our table every time I took a sip! The waiter, although he seemed nice, was absent most of the night and hardly said more than a few words the entire time.
That said, once the food made its way out, it looked pretty good on the plate. However, as good as it looked; it tasted rancid, the veggies were over cooked, and half the plate was cold. My wife’s plate, also looked good but, the vegetables were also over cooked, and the fish had more of a jerky texture than we’ve ever experienced.
I had been here a few tunes, the last time was about 2 years ago (because it’s a bit out of our normal date night budget) and expected the food would be the same. maybe there was a new chef that night ? or something awfully cruel happened. Sorely disappointed and very much dissatisfied considering the reputation of the restaurant & the price of the meal.
$95 per person pre-fix Valentine’s dinner - waited nearly an hour for main course after the previous plate. Too late to eat by the time it arrived and I sent mine back. Manager credited the plate since I didn’t eat it. My opinion is that $95 per person for food only is at the top level of cost for a food only meal in LA and the restaurant charging that price should be operating at that level, always. Here, it was amateurish at best. Nevermind making for a bad finish to the holiday dinner.
This is a beautiful location with mediocre food, drinks, and service. For the price point everything was bad. It feels like this venue rides on the beautiful historic location as an excuse to overcharge for what is effectively hotel food and hotel bar cocktails. I won't be going back.
Wish it was a regular menu but great !!!
The experience at Cicada was amazing. The server was very attentive and courteous. We were a party of eight and yet all of our dishes came out at the exact same time, which was exceptional because we all began dining at the same time. The food was delicious. We all loved our dishes. I will definetly recommend Cicada to others!
