Cicada Ratings and Reviews
I came here to celebrate my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend and it was amazing. The atmosphere was great and the music was very good. Our server was extremely nice and the food was very fulfilling and tasteful. We are actually looking into having our wedding here because it was that good! I’d highly recommend this venue for a special occasion.
One of Los Angeles's BEST places to eat in the entire city. We are never let down with the excellent service, incredible food and high end formal atmosphere. Also, a very beautiful place for a lovely formal wedding! Cicada & the Oviatt building that it is in is an historical landmark for Los Angeles and is one of the very 1st Art Deco buildings built in L.A. This is a GOT TO GO SEE!
I have never left a review, but I felt the need after my date. The atmosphere was great, it felt like a time machine back to the 40-50's. People were dressed up and the jazz band was great. But the food, left a lot to desire. It was very bland and did not have flavor. I normally wound't complain, but my bill was $200 plus the $30/each to get in due to the band. In total, I spent 2 hours at this place, swing music very nice but $260 was steep for food I did not enjoy. Also, I felt out of place consider me and my date were the only ones not dressed in 50's clothing; I will be back with the proper attire, but I will try something different on the menu. Great service, 3 servers for our table and someone proposed while we were there. Practice your swing dance, because most of tables got up to dance. I had a good time, with better food, I would have highly recommended it!!
One waiter for the whole restaurant and it seems strange that they did NOT indicate we kept our reservation made on Open Table?! Very limited wine list and when we asked for information on two wines the bottles were brought to the table to view but no information provided. Food was above average but the entire experience was below par considering the wonderful restaurants within the same area of Los Angeles.
Came here for a birthday celebration on a special night. We had no idea we would be transcended in time. The music was amazing with Jimmy Holiday performing. Everyone really gets into the cocktail/vintage dress up. The prefix menu does have an option for vegetarians which was great for me. The overall service was good, plenty of attendees. The drinks were slow to come but they did come :)
Overall we found it to be a fun experience.
The well-preserved 30s decor lends a magical vibe to the entire experience. Many of the patrons are dressed in Old Hollywood style and they've pulled out all the stops. Plan on dressing up!! My server was friendly, patient and attentive, and the food was delicious. Overall it was worth every penny.
Unhappy with their Valentines Day dinner. 1) They raised the originally posted fixed price for dinner for this evening without notice. 2) Even though it was offered as a "pris fix" menu, they offered nothing, not even the most basic request, in substitution for selections that frankly, some people cannot eat. I completely understand the idea of a fixed menu for a special occasion. But come on, Cicada, you ARE A FULLY FUNCTIONING restaurant in the hospitality business. Even on a fixed menu night, you should be able to offer SOME basic substitutions for those who might not be able to eat everything you offer for dietary reasons.
I notified the manager that I could not eat the second course of risotto (it was the ONLY option as the second course) due to diet. I requested simple garden salad in substitution..nothing fancy. I was flatly refused and told it was a fixed menu. In practicing a Paleo-diet, I also could not eat the dessert course. Again, I had asked for simply some basic fruit and was denied.
Not to mention, for the raised price of $95 per person, the portions were pretty scant. Also, once I was denied and let the manager I wasn't happy, our server pretty much disappeared. Drink refills were only had by flagging down bus boys.
This is just wrong. After drinks and dinner, I spent over $300. For that amount, I would think you would be willing to offer some BASIC accommodations for those who cannot eat everything. Well, for someone who has loyally come to Cicada for years, i'll think twice about coming back. there's plenty of other fish in the sea, here in LA.
The food and ambience were great. The desserts were delicious! My cocktail drink was made exactly how I ordered it, (SideCar). I know what the menu and prices were before we made reservations. However, our waiter was a bit impatient; in regards to our bill. A total of 18 and being the first time out in a group that large for some was a challenge.
Also, the restaurant closed too early.
Overall, we loved every minute of our time there. The rest of your staff were gracious and accommodating.
Thank you for a lovely evening.
On arrival, the historic building and vintage Los Angeles Art Deco glamor set the upscale dining experience tone for the evening, while the down-to-earth, relatable, professional staff add an inviting warmth that usher you in to what will be a mouth-wateringly delicious, thoroughly satisfying dining experience--one that will make you grateful you chose Cicada. My wife and I chose Cicada for our third wedding anniversary dinner, and it did not disappoint! The cocktails were artfully crafted, potent and quite simply superb. We went on a Wednesday, which may explain the rather spare number of guests in the quiet dining room, but the very healthy number of lively, after-work guests at the secluded upstairs bar. If the 5-star reputation inclines you to believe it far too upscale to be a comfortable, enjoyable evening, time to adjust those misconceptions. GO! NOW!!
