Cibo Ristorante Italiano Ratings and Reviews
We requested a quiet table and was pleased they could accommodate. I had the Veal Chop and I must admit it was spectacular. From the appetizer to the Chocolate Caramel Lava cake I was impressed. I have traveled to Paris, Lyons, All of Italy etc and this meal could stand up against all of them with few exceptions. Thank you for a memorable meal.
We went for happy hour for a drink before dinner, which were good and inexpensive. The only curiosity was that happy hour food was not available during the first hour, not until dinner service began. The menu had a nice selection of dishes and especially appetizers. The food was well prepared albeit a little slow coming despite a nearly empty dining room at that hour. The manager and wait staff were attentive and friendly. We would definitely go back.
This restaurant has mixed reviews, and so is mine. Nothing bad, but did not knock my socks off. The jazz music was great, the atmosphere fantastic, but the food was just OK. I think we Californians are spoiled by great foodie restaurants as a base line. The chef needs to shake it up. Nice people, lovely surroundings, but was just not dazzled from the kitchen. That's my honest feedback. I will give them another try and report back.
Other reviews were mixed but glad we took a chance. Easy parking, live and enjoyable jazz, friendly staff, and great menu. The charred artichoke was fantastic! We loved the romantic and cozy seating. We met the owner and she made us feel very welcome. A great Italian dining date.
Great meal with wonderful food and outstanding service. Open a section for us so that we could have a quiet table to enjoy good conversation to go along with the fine food. Have been there in the past and have always had a great experience. Will certainly return.
My wife and I went for the live jazz on Thursday Nov 30th. The bar was hopping and loud, but fun. My wife had the flat iron steak and said it was very good. I had the seafood pasta special that was adjusted to my preferences without any problems. The jazz trio was excellent and we would come back just for that reason alone.
We visited Cibo with my family of 16 and had a wonderful experience. Their menu has great options for every diner. We have a few gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant and vegetarians. All walked away quite happy. Our servers and wait-people were awesome! And though the restaurant was quite busy, our food arrived promptly and was delicious. Kudos to the staff and chef!
Great dinner - start to finish! Wine list offered something for everyone. Located a few blocks away from the wharf is a real positive for us. Good value. Never rushed. Food was served hot. Presentation was lovely. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and was able to understand the dietary needs of someone with Celiac. Great evening - great dinner - highly recommend.
I liked almost everything about Cibo... except the food. My GF and I took the kids, and the service was great. They seated us at a nice booth. The tables are lined with paper, and they gave the kids crayons to color all over the place. They were over the moon. Our server was exceptionally helpful, knew the specials, took our order, got our food out promptly, and kept up with drinks.
Sadly, the food was the weak area. My GF ordered the Ravioli a Modo Mio, which was very bland. We love good ravioli, and make it at home. We also love artichokes in many dishes. It was a well made dish with good presentation, but overall it just fell short.
Likewise, my Pizza Coltolette was less than stellar. I love short ribs, but they were bland. While the menu said caramelized onions, they were more like onion straws. They were good onion straws, but by no means were they caramelized. The pizza was on a very thin cracker-like crust, which I knew before, but one should definitely be aware that this is not a traditional pizza.
Overall, while we really wanted to like this place, we just can't say we did. Very disappointing, because everything was great except for the food.
Service was great. Never felt rushed. Ordered grilled BBQ octopus and calamari. Both were exceptional and large servings. We split the veal chop for dinner because the appetizers and fresh bread was so good. They veal chop was cooked to perfection. Our dinner and overall dining experience was fantastic. We were a little early and didn't stay for the jazz band that was setting up to play. It appears that Cibo turns into a jazz club later in the evening. Next time we'll have a later dinner. Great place!
We were a large party (8 adults, 2 children.) The restaurant was empty when we arrived and we immediately ordered wine, cocktails and appetizers. Nice and well priced wine menu. When we asked for the children’s meals to come out with the appetizers we were told that everyone had to order their entrees at once. Our waitress had no patience for our style of ordering. Perhaps knowing that her 18% tip was guaranteed she felt less like accommodating our wishes. Food was good, not great. Those who ordered from the day’s specials were happier than those who ordered off the menu.
Although Cibo has been in Monterey for quite some time, it was my first visit. Great Happy Hour specials on food and cocktails. The calamari appetizer was lightly breaded and delicate (not greasy). At our table we had the evening special, a sea bass with a tomato sauce that was prepared perfectly, moist and flaky. Also present was the Salsiccia Casalinga, a homemade sausage served over a bed of roasted tomato polenta. The service was great and the live jazz was amazing. I will definitely be going back soon.
We found Cibo's and it was a great dinning experience. Live music 3 piece jazz ensemble from the bar was heard through the dinning room. Mellow tunes while dining. Very refreshing cucumber salad and gnocchi trio was my choice. My husband ordered the calamari and ut was very fresh and cooked properly. Loved the friendly atmosphere from the owner and his mother. Very welcoming and priced well.
I need to be fair, we are a family of four with two young children, from out of town. We arrived and looked for a simple place for dinner, and picked Cibo. It was okay but not the place for us that night - wrong vibe (can't appreciate the music when your kids are tired), food was acceptable but nothing special. If you're like us, look elsewhere. If not, maybe you will like it more.
The waiter just seemed to be going through the motions without any real interest in his job. We were seated and he asked for drink orders and if we wanted any appetizers. We ordered both. The drinks arrived and then the salads before we even placed our dinner order. Odd to be served a stater salad while still holding the menu. The timing just seemed off. We finally ordered our main entrees and after quite some time, they arrived. Cold. He wasn't thrilled when we asked for them to be taken back and reheated. For a restaurant with prices like Cibo, I expected better service and meal.
Felt like some Italian food and made reservations here for a party of 5 for dinner. They served some warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I'm use to pouring my own plate but they poured one plate for all of us. Getting my water filled was one of my main complaint. No military discount being offered here :(. Service was decent, food was delicious, and I love the Jazz.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio
Gnocchi Trio (MY FAVORITE!)
*Pepperoni Pizza (Kid's Menu)
Creme Brûlée Cheesecake
3 Chocolate Gelati
(Was told there were Hazelnut and strawberry gelati and ordered strawberry but they ran out, I wanted hazelnut but somehow we were all given chocolate.)
