Great food and atmosphere. Reasonably priced and right near the fisherman's wharf for an after dinner stroll.
Perfect for Anniversary.
Service was great. Never felt rushed. Ordered grilled BBQ octopus and calamari. Both were exceptional and large servings. We split the veal chop for dinner because the appetizers and fresh bread was so good. They veal chop was cooked to perfection. Our dinner and overall dining experience was fantastic. We were a little early and didn't stay for the jazz band that was setting up to play. It appears that Cibo turns into a jazz club later in the evening. Next time we'll have a later dinner. Great place!
We were a large party (8 adults, 2 children.) The restaurant was empty when we arrived and we immediately ordered wine, cocktails and appetizers. Nice and well priced wine menu. When we asked for the children’s meals to come out with the appetizers we were told that everyone had to order their entrees at once. Our waitress had no patience for our style of ordering. Perhaps knowing that her 18% tip was guaranteed she felt less like accommodating our wishes. Food was good, not great. Those who ordered from the day’s specials were happier than those who ordered off the menu.
Although Cibo has been in Monterey for quite some time, it was my first visit. Great Happy Hour specials on food and cocktails. The calamari appetizer was lightly breaded and delicate (not greasy). At our table we had the evening special, a sea bass with a tomato sauce that was prepared perfectly, moist and flaky. Also present was the Salsiccia Casalinga, a homemade sausage served over a bed of roasted tomato polenta. The service was great and the live jazz was amazing. I will definitely be going back soon.
One of the better choices on Alvarado St in downtown Monterey for dinner. Italian menu but done with a creative flare. Good value for the price and a nice ambiance with jazz every night.
Absolutely great food!
We basically came for dinner, but order the appetizers and that was all we needed. Great appetizers.
We found Cibo's and it was a great dinning experience. Live music 3 piece jazz ensemble from the bar was heard through the dinning room. Mellow tunes while dining. Very refreshing cucumber salad and gnocchi trio was my choice. My husband ordered the calamari and ut was very fresh and cooked properly. Loved the friendly atmosphere from the owner and his mother. Very welcoming and priced well.
I need to be fair, we are a family of four with two young children, from out of town. We arrived and looked for a simple place for dinner, and picked Cibo. It was okay but not the place for us that night - wrong vibe (can't appreciate the music when your kids are tired), food was acceptable but nothing special. If you're like us, look elsewhere. If not, maybe you will like it more.
The waiter just seemed to be going through the motions without any real interest in his job. We were seated and he asked for drink orders and if we wanted any appetizers. We ordered both. The drinks arrived and then the salads before we even placed our dinner order. Odd to be served a stater salad while still holding the menu. The timing just seemed off. We finally ordered our main entrees and after quite some time, they arrived. Cold. He wasn't thrilled when we asked for them to be taken back and reheated. For a restaurant with prices like Cibo, I expected better service and meal.
We had a late reservation and unfortunately the restaurant was very crowded and the music was to loud! It was impossible to talk to our guests! The food was excellent!
Outstanding ! Cibo's has greatly improved. Fabulous desserts!
Felt like some Italian food and made reservations here for a party of 5 for dinner. They served some warm bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, I'm use to pouring my own plate but they poured one plate for all of us. Getting my water filled was one of my main complaint. No military discount being offered here :(. Service was decent, food was delicious, and I love the Jazz.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio
Gnocchi Trio (MY FAVORITE!)
*Pepperoni Pizza (Kid's Menu)
Creme Brûlée Cheesecake
3 Chocolate Gelati
(Was told there were Hazelnut and strawberry gelati and ordered strawberry but they ran out, I wanted hazelnut but somehow we were all given chocolate.)
The portions were small. Over cooked / dried out sausage. Our waiter lied about not having a type of dessert to move us out asap.
This place used to be one of our favorites.
Unfortunately we're most likely not going to be back...
This restaurant has a nice feeling about it. I liked the booths for just 2 people and they had a nice 2 person jazz group there. The salmon I have was very good esp the brown sugar blood orange sauce!
Unfortunately the pizza we had was burned on the edges . I'm surprised they even served it that way.
It's a nice restaurant tho.
They seemed to be understaffed for the number of people there that evening, and the service suffered for it. The food was fine, but the menu could use an update. I wouldn't call it a complete tourist trap, but the place could stand a refresh.
We've been here before and have always enjoyed it. This time there was live music (Andrea's Fault, I think is the name of the three piece group) which was a nice touch. We enjoyed everything that the four of us ordered. Highly recommend
We were a party of 9 celebrating a milestone birthday. Everyone enjoyed Cibo's! We were early, had a nice long table, and felt well taken care of by the staff. Pre-dinner drinks at the bar gave us extra time to catch-up and take pictures. Thank you for a fun evening!
This was our second visit and we very much enjoyed the food. The live jazz music was a bonus (and you could still have a conversation)!
Guess we should have tried pasta. Carpaccio, artichoke, and fish dishes were all bland. Good service and good live music.
The food was great. We had the Putanesca, Gnocchi trio, and ravioli. All were great. Good service.
Scallops and shrimp was nothing short of terrible..worst meal in Monterey.
Service was pleasant enough..but can't make up for a bad meal.
Our family found it ok, but a restaurant we could find in Any Town USA, and we had, in this case, been looking for something Monterey special So if based on the description, this is what you are looking for, you will find it, but we hoped it was more Monterey Italian special with a bit more seafood and it just did not meet our expectations.
We had a wonderful experience at Cibo. Everyone was kind and helpful - and very accommodating of our 3-month old daughter. The food was delicious - I highly recommend the artichoke appetiser! Five stars all round!
I have eaten at Cibo before and have always had a great meal. The pasta is homemade, and cooked to perfection. There is a great variety of pasta and sauces, steak, chicken, salads, and vegetarian options. Cocktails are unique and the wine list has some great values. The bar has a nice happy hour, and is fun to relax and unwind after work. The dining room has great energy with attentive wait staff. Cibo must be doing something right because they have been in the same location in Downtown Monterey for years.
Always make it a point to dine here when at Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. Excellent food with breadth of choices. Family owned and operated. All friendly and accommodating. They even allowed for our 2 yo grandaughter providing crayons and stopping by table to play with her a bit.
Convenient downtown Monterey location near Fishermans Wharf and Portola Hotel,
interesting cocktail list , excellent pasta dishes.
Pretty average food and very mechanical service. Not bad but not notable.
Nice place and service was good, food was as expected
Four out of our group of 8 ordered the lobster pasta special and noticed that it tasted extra fishy. Three of those individuals had stomachaches later on that evening, and one of the individuals ended up with gastrointestinal issues later that evening. That aside, we weren't super impressed by this restaurant. It was ok. Our large table was right near the front door and it really was very loud on a Saturday night. We visit Monterey a lot for business and pleasure. I'm not sure we will be back.
The homemade pasta dishes were excellent. Authentic Italian food. Only downside was coming on a Thursday night when it was happy hour in the bar which was packed. Needless to say we could not hear ourselves think let alone have a conversation. If you go on a Thursday plan on screaming across the table to your friends/family.
Cibo is always an excellent evening. My wife and I first walked into Cibo about 20 years ago and the dining room was full. Rosa, (Mama) was handling the floor and she went about setting a table for us, finding space and having the staff bring a small table and chairs. Since then I have brought business evening meals to a selected menu dinner, and my wife and I return every time we are near Monterey.
The classic Italian food is full of flavor, Mama's lasagna is amazing, available on selected evenings. live smooth jazz and an excellent small bar quiet enough for easy conversation. A must for anyone staying in the Monterey area.
There was only one server when we arrived and had to wait to be greeted by him at the table. Note: happy hour is for the bar area only which would have changed our dining experience. We would have waited for a table to open up in the bar area. We were celebrating a birthday and the complimentary app and dessert was a nice touch. Special dish request was honored and appreciated just felt something was missing. The wow factor did not appear throughout the meal. Would go back for happy hour but not for main dining room experience.
The waiter was very attentive food was delicious I would have liked to had the band play earlier it was Christmas eve and it would have been more intertaining to relax and have after dinner drinks but I would definately go back.
Food was mostly good. The calamari was not fresh, quite chewy so we sent it back. We did not have full entrees so cannot comment on that. The staff were attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the live jazz music and the romantic ambiance.
Fair to average Italian Food . Very good grilled shrimp appetizer . Carponato also good . Sausage over cooked for main dish . Ravioli good , not outstanding . Cannoli was good as was expreso . Server did nice job .
When in Monterey we always eat at Cibo. We enjoy the live jazz music. Great Happy Hour. A Cosmo will run you $4.50. The staff is always very attentive and the food is down home Italian yummy.
The service was excellent. The calamari was very tasty.
Finding Cibo while travelling was a wonderful pleasure. Delicious food, great service and fun cocktails. BEST Tiramisu we have ever had - worth a trip!
