Cibo Ristorante Italiano
Cibo means food in Italian, but it’s more of a feast for the senses. An intimate yet vibrant atmosphere is accentuated with expressive art in the form of photography, paintings, sculpture, hand-blown glass and live jazz. Fusing the best of old and new world Italian cuisine, Cibo offers an eclectic menu from gourmet pizzas to multi-course dinners.
Hand-selected from the finest Italian and California vintages, Cibo presents an extensive range of wines to enable the perfect pairing with your dinner. Cordials as well as traditional and creative cocktails are available to complement your dining experience. For an elegant evening of cocktails and jazz, a custom private party, a special group event or quiet dinner for two, Cibo will accommodate. Cibo has been a favorite of locals and visitors alike since 1990.

We had wonderful service by Roberto. Dinner was great. We definitely will be retuning.
Nice music, good service and a good pasta.
Lovely service, wonderful food. Love this place. Didn’t care for the music. It was way too loud for me even though we were seated as far away from the noise as possible
Cibo has the best Chicken Marsala I have ever had in my entire life. From the fresh baked bread to dip in your olive oil and vinegar to the bean soup to the craft cocktails, this place is a must see in Monterey. Over all the fancy dining my fiancee and I have been to in Monterey and Carmel, this place so far is our favorite. We will be recommending this place to all of our friends and family looking for a great spot for Italian food or anyone who wants to know the best place to eat.
Very good pasta. A bit noisy due to the live band. Overall, I was gonna quite pleased.
Shrimp risotto awesome. Polenta creamy. Beets to die for. Bread fresh and tried not to fill up. Music from live band nice to listen and dance to. Waiter was one if the best I’ve ever had.
Just another perfect restaurant experience at our usual booth at CIBO’s at 715pm
My pizza was very heavy and kept me awake at night. The short ribs were small chunks of meat on a mostly cheese pizza, and the fried Yukon potatoes turned out to be tiny, very salty fries. My husband's lobster pasta special was overpriced at $45 and was also very heavy. My mother-in-law ordered the salmon and was happy with it.
Overall we found the prices to be a bit high for the quality compared to other Italian restaurants in the area. We're not planning to go back.
Superb food. Great service
Really disappointing. Live music was very loud and we were seated in a booth facing the restaurant so the people at either end couldn’t talk over the music. We asked to be reseated but we’re rudely told not possible, despite there being several empty tables in the other half of the restaurant which could have accommodated us.
Service was all over the place - waited ages for some things then main courses arrived literally as started plates were being cleared.
Good mixed - pasta dishes ok, pizzas undercooked. Caprese salad and bruschetta were not good.
Don't underestimate Cibo, while tourists pile in here the food is foodie-level, the jazz was good and the vibe was cool.
We went to enjoy dinner there with our friends and then was going to stay to hear music that comes on later - our reservation was at 7:45 - greeted very warmly - off to a great start - our waiter wasn't very friendly at all and he wasn't attentive to our table - he seemed upset that one of our guests came about ten minutes after we sat down and he had to wait to take our order although we ordered appetizer before she arrived and sparkling waters - the jazz essemble playing during dinnertime was very nice but too loud during dinner - we expected the music to be loud after 9 pm but not at 8 pm - it was difficult to converse. The food was good - I had the seabass which was very good - a little overcooked to my liking but it was still delicious - we stayed and danced to the next band that was very fun - we had a wonderful time all in all - we love Cibo's only wish the waiter would have been a little friendly. Of course we will be back!
I went with my wife for business in Monterey. We have been to Cannery Row and Fisherman’s Wharf for meals on a number of occasions. They are touristy locations that count on a steady stream of visitors looking for a view and location and the food is not the focus. This restaurant has no view but the food and service were outstanding. The calamari appetizer was not chewy but very tender. The sea bass special was outstanding with an exceptional sauce. The Pork chop was very good and the mango dessert was great.
The food was really quite revolting. First, we had the white bean soup which was tepid. Then my wife had a Caesar Salad made with balsamic which was strange. I had spaghetti bolognese which as horrible - tasteless and the pasta was stodgy. Not good
We went for our anniversary and the owner greeted us warmly. we had a lovely conversation and then he led us to a booth. I ordered the 4 cheese ravioli with artichokes and walnuts and my husband had the pasta with a meat sauce. Both dishes were beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. The dishes were good size portions and unfortunately we didn’t have room for dessert but everything on the menu looked good. The restaurant was around the block from our hotel so it was very convenient. We look forward to our next visit.
Great ambiance, live jazz music, but service was absolutely horrible.
We had a fabulous meal at Cibo. We started with a very unique, and absolutely delicious bruschetta with splits of Prosecco. I had the Gnocchi Trio and my friend had the Pollo Marsala. We both absolutely enjoyed out meals. We ended with coffee and the chocolate salted caramel lava cake. Our server was attentive, we were full and very pleased with the experience (even learned a little Italian in the restroom :-)
Our server was great and helpful.
Absolutely incredible! Bolognese was incredible! The band was wonderful! A favorite for sure!!
The food was delicious and the courses were nicely timed.
Good consistent meal in Monterey. Great happy hour as well.
Good food. Server was excellent and made the experience.
Awesome dinner! We love Cibo!! We will be back!
Great place! Food and service top notch. Seafood risotto is recommended. Ate there bf Big Sur race well equipped for the customer volume
The food took over an hour to come out from the kitchen, water was slow to be refilled, 2 ziti dishes were missing ricotta (one of the key ingredients), 1 pasta dish was cold and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The manager did not handle the situation well.
We booked the last available table on a Friday night at 10pm. Got to the restaurant 5 min early and were told by waitstaff that the cooks had already left for the night so the kitchen was closed. Other diners were still in the restaurant. Management should insure open table reservation match the actual operating hours. Also, it is adjacent to a bar and there were people on the stage/fj area speaking extremely loud and it appeared as if a fight were to ensue. Would not go back, though ratings were high so we thought we would try it.
Good location nice jazz
Loved that they had a jazz trio, really a nice treat and saved the dining experience. We enjoyed the grilled octopus as our appetizer and it was very good. I ordered pasta and was very disappointed, the sauce was so sweet, not to my liking at all. My husband had the pork chop it was “fair” over cooked and too dry. The service was great and the ambience nice. Reasonable wine list, we enjoyed a bottle and the jazz. Decided to skip dessert based on dinner.
Good food and ambiance for my husband's birthday dinner, well priced, and terrific service from Edgar for taking extra special care of my husband's various allergies including bringing out a list of ingredients for us to review. Will be back, thank you!
Cibo Ristorante was exactly what we were looking for - quiet atmosphere with great food and service. We had the opportunity to meet and chat with the owner, making it that much more personal and enjoyable.
Welcome as a little standoffish but the food was good and the atmosphere nice. I would go again.
Fantastic all around!
Good food, good service.
The ambient noise was awful! Food very salty. Service was very good though
We hit Cibo’s whenever we’re in Monterey. Sadly, that is often only once per year.
The food is fantastic if you like Italian. The staff, many family of the owner(s) are always a joy.
The live music usually adds to the ambiance and tonight was no exception with a three piece band dipping into the American songbook.
Suggestion for maximum experience: Have each person order a favorite entree, throw in an appetizer or three, add some bottles from their solid wine list and SHARE all around.
To die for!
I always eat here when I’m in Monterey. Unfortunately, this experience was less than normal. The server, Milan, was very nice, but seemed distracted, and frequently absent.
After being seated immediately, it was 30 minutes before our order was taken. Apparently, there was an oven that failed, and it limited what was available from the menu. Our meal took over two hours, and didn’t seem to have any rhyme or reason for what was served and when. People at the table next us took matters into their on hands, and got up and found several baskets of bread, which they shared with us.
Hopefully this was an aberration.
This was a great restaurant live music awesome food
We were very pleased with our experience. The menu had a good variety of delicious dishes. We had an appetizer and dessert as well as our entrees. All the food was very well prepared and savory. The service was wonderful. A trio was playing easy listening music. We will definitely go back soo .
We celebrated Valentine's here this evening. Interesting menu. We had the grilled prawn appetizer, pasta Bolognese and flat iron steak with a side of brocolini. Dessert was Panna Cotta and the strawberry gelato with coffee. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. I don't know why we haven't come here before, but we will be back.
Loved our time at Cibo!
We were visiting Monterey for the weekend ... and stopped in for dinner at Cibo. The food was great , and a pleasant surprise for us,,,, there was also entertaining live music!
Thanks again for a nice evening :)
