Cibo Ratings and Reviews
My family and I love going to Cibo for Happy Hour. All the pizzas are $5 and the food is always delicious. We haven’t dined at Cibo for awhile but ever since they started doing the $5 pizza’s it was such a steal that now we can’t get enough of it.
The staff is always so nice and friendly. Would definitely recommend this place!!!
We love going to Cibo especially Sunday’s which is half priced pizza night. Food is always good! This particular visit I tried to book a table for 7 but was unable to on OpenTable so we called the restaurant and the hostess was adamant that they didn’t have room over dinner for a booking of this size. I was able to book a table for 3 and 4 and hoped we could be seated nearby. When we arrived the gentlemen at the door was more than willing to accommodate our table of 7 request which was great but the restaurant was dead the whole time we were there so we were a little surprised and annoyed that our original request was denied and we had to go through all the trouble of making two reservations for no reason.
For appetizers we decided to share the Arancini and the Spinach salad. Arancini was amazing but the salad’s dressing seemed a little off so we sent it back and got a Caesar salad, which was good. Our daughter had a kids pizza that is actually adult-sized and meatballs, which were both very good. we’re not sure if it was because we sent our salad back, but when we received our entrees they were very dry and over cooked; maybe they were under a heat lamp for a while. However, management comp’d most of our meal (they actually offered to comp everything but we wanted to pay for what was good) and brought us an assortment of free desserts. So, good service and management, but the kitchen had an off-night.
Food is always incredible and Cibo and we are never disappointed . Only criticism, if any, would be for the server to given us a bit more help with the menu, to help choose what we wanted. It was my parents first time and they needed some help decided and didn’t get much feedback from our sever. Other than that, it was a wonderful experience.
We've been to Cibo over a dozen times, and this was by far the worst experience we had. Not sure if it was due to us having a later reservation or that it was NYE, but we were bounced between 3 different servers who must have assumed "the other server was looking after us", as we waited for our drinks for over half hour, and the exact same thing for our second round. Food was good, service was extremely subpar for a slow evening.
Two flies in iced beverage. No pineapple on Hawaiian pizza. Pasta was far more than al dente, which resulted in soggy dough and filling falling out of ravioli. Overall the tastes were good, with far better options on appetizer/starter menu. Would come back here just for more tapas-style dining and forgo the main courses. Perhaps entertain 1/2 price pizza on Sundays.
Here's how you can have a solid dining experience like we did:
Go to Cibo on a Thursday at 8:30 PM. This way, you can take advantage of the evening special of 5 scodellina for 20 bucks (or 3 for 12). Come 9 PM, the late night happy hour begins and you can grab beer or wine for 4 bucks, select pizzas for 5 bucks, and select scodellina for 4 bucks. It's filling, high quality food for what I think is great value.
PS. My favourite scodellina were the lamb meatballs, arancini, and roasted cauliflower.
I have been to CIBO several times and unfortunately this time it was loud, the service was average and the food was cold. This is a busy time of year and the restaurant was full which is good for them but not for customers who would like to hear each other across the table.
The ambiance here is fantastic. Pizza is very good. Not a huge fan of the food for the price. I had the Pear and Gorgonzola Pizza 5/5, Brussel Sprouts charred with balsamic glaze 4/5 (too sweet for me), Bruschetta 5/5, Squash Risotto 2/5 (for the price $19, nothing special, under cooked squash and wild rice), truffle fries 5/5, Drinks (Friday special $5) 4/5. Service was very good, we asked to have the birthday girl’s food split onto everyone’s bill but she put it all on my bill so I ended up paying for most of it which was a bit annoying. They are very kid friendly and the children’s portions are huge for the price! If you need to make a reservation for more than 10 you have to call. The seating availability is also incorrect. When I tried to book they said they only had a reso for 5 but when I called they put us in for 6:30.
Saturday November 11 I took my girlfriend there as a date night. As her and I are really big foodies and both currerntly cook as a living. The reviews we have heard about Cibo made us extremely thrilled to come for a dining experience on our rare night off. The two of us shared some appetizers and got the mushroom pizza. We got the arincini, which was absolutely scrumptious. We got the meat balls, which were good in flavour, yet the presentation looked like ground meat rather than actually meat balls. We ordered the mushroom pizza add chicken as our main. The first bite made us regret that decision, the chicken was quite dry and bland. The mushrooms needed some lovings before being put on the pizza. The dough was super soggy, undercooked and not seasoned . We were really excited to try out Cibo but our first experience made us not want us to return.
Cibo is a great spot for many occasions. I had my b-day there more than once and each time the service and experience were excellent. In the summer the patio is one of the best on 17th Ave. They also have specials each day of the week indicating that the owners understand the fact that money is tight in Calgary at the moment. I would recommend it for an intimate drink, catching that game or getting together with a large group of friends. Great atmosphere.
Our experience was mixed. The staff was exceptional, but we thought the food was just okay. We chose this restaurant because of its high ratings, but our meals certainly didn't stack up to the expectation. We ordered a salad we did not like, and the staff did not charge us for the salad. They did that without us even asking. The ravioli was good, the rigatoni was marginal. Maybe we just hit it on a bad night. Kudos to the staff.
Awful service. Waited 45 minutes for food to come. Once the food hit the table it was cold, and the server didn't do a quality check until 15 min after the food arrived. My friends and I were there for almost three hours and saw our server 3 times, two of which we had to flag her down. I was given a drink with a bunch little food chunks in it. I am pregnant and asked our server what virgin drinks they had to which she replied we only have a cranberry and soda.. only to flip the menu over to find a larger list of no alcoholic beverages. I spoke with a manager about our food running late & she mentioned that the kitchen was having issues. Had my friends, and I known that by having either the server or a manager touch our table we wouldn't have been so upset. Not to mention we also asked our server at the 30 minute mark how much longer food was going to be. She said she would check then never came back to speak with us. She seemed a little more concerned about polishing cutlery than tending to her tables. Not to mention we were late to our plans due to the delayed service. Not somewhere I would recommend.. fairly disappointed.
